London Gatwick To Dublin Airport (Ryanair).

Thu Feb 19, 2009 9:31 pm

Hi,

Thought I'd try to post a few pics from a day trip I managed to take today from London Gatwick (my local airport) to Dublin airport (and Dublin city a little).

Apologies I have no photos of the beginning of the trip left because I mistakenly took a photo inside the Gatwick X-Ray room and had to delete that pic but my camera has no backlight so to prove I deleted it I had to delete all the pics I had up to that point. So the journey begins from airside in Gatwick's south terminal (the pics I had taken before were mainly showing the weather a little foggy and overcast).

South terminal airside.

Harrods in the South terminal:

Layout of the South terminal gates. We were eventually called from gate 11 I think which is in the middle concourse. The flight to Shannon from last month was from gate 10 on the smaller lower concourse (where I think also Aer Lingus flights board?).

10.00am flight to Dublin. Please wait in the lounge.

Tried to take a pic of the huge Pret-A-Manger in Gatwick's South terminal airside (mainly because it's so large).

Walking to the gate.

The gate.

The stairs down before boarding the aircraft.

Boarding.

Wing View.

Easyjet plane:

Some other interesting planes (EuroAtlantic, US Airways 757 with winglets, Mexicana to Mexico City):

First Choice and British Airways 737 holding short of the runway:

Entering the runway/takeoff:

Flying over cloud:

Higher now.

Landing (we turned off the runway at exit Echo 6 (I think)).

Aer Lingus A330. We landed on runway 28 and had a cruise altitude of 32,000ft. I think we then taxied to pier D where most if not all of the Ryanair flights depart.

The bus.

O'Connell Street (one of the main shopping streets).

There was a store called Eason whcih was kinda like Border's Books and music. Took this pic there. (the best magazines section!).

Possible present.

Returning.

The best roast.

Dinner (it tasted better than it photographed!).

General airport view.

Terminal 2.

Pier B:

I was advised that Pier B had the best spotting oppotunities and it definitely had. Basically it's like a big panorama for the main runway.

FedEx Plane.

That's pretty much all the pics I could take. The return flight was for 3.45pm so was quite a relaxed day flying. I enjoyed seeing Dublin airport having listened to it a lot on LiveAtc and seeing the town centre was quite cool too.

Apologies if the report is too short. I tried to keep it from becoming too boring(!)

Any comments etc. welcome (might post a few more pics from the air if wanted or it feels cool).

Many thanks,

Pierre.

Great pictures, Pierre.

What made you decide on Dublin for the day? The cost of the flight?

Interesting trip report Ps76,

Gatwick has always fascinated me, and I believe it is far more attractive than Heathrow nowadays. I myself have flown out of LGW many times and, although planespotting is limited, I love seeing a variety of aircraft and airlines out there. Cool photos, brings back memories...
Recently Flown Airlines: Air Malta (KM), My Travel (MYT), First Choice (FCA), Swiss (LX), Virgin Atlantic (VS), Monarch

Hi,

Just to say many thanks for the comments/encouragement.

I sat over the wing on the right side. Luckily I got on quite near the front so had a window seat, although I don't think Ryanair uses seat numbers as such (it's just a free for all for getting seats!).

Mainly because they fly from Gatwick which is much closer to me than Stansted and they fly at quite easy hours (I don't have to get up at 4.30am to drive round the M25 etc.). Though next time I might try a flight from Stansted (maybe to Freidricshafen).

Many thanks,

Pierre

Hi there. Nice report and pics.

That Easons on O'Connell St. do have a great selection of aviation magazines. In there myself a few times.

Pier B at DUB is great for spotting but I got barked at for taking pics in it last year  Angry

Thanks for posting.

Nice trip report.

Great find on the Mexicana 767. Haven't seen a photo of MX at LGW until now.  Smile

It's a real shame Gatwick doesn't see all the wide-bodies it used to  Sad

Hi,

Just to say many thanks for the comments/encouragement. Was kinda worried that the second half of the report lost it's way but cool that it turned out not too bad.

Many thanks,

Pierre.
