Caribbean Airlines From MIA To POS

Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:49 am

Caribbean Airlines Advertisement:

Caribbean Airlines, the National Flag Carrier of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, flies daily between both MIA and FLL to Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. POS is BW's hub and offers daily connections to BGI, CCS, GEO, PBM, and TAB. Caribbean Airlines is known for their warm and hospitable service, and is currently expanding their operations while other airlines that are based in the Caribbean are scaling back.

The on-board service is top-noch! Very similar to LAN. For example in Y, hot meals, every seat has clean pillows and blankets, the cabin crew are very professional and treat each passenger with respect and professionalism.

Here are some pictures from a short flight I took from BGI to POS:

http://i476.photobucket.com/albums/rr130/SCL767/Caribbean%20Airlines%20Trip%20Report/DSC00993.jpg

http://i476.photobucket.com/albums/rr130/SCL767/Caribbean%20Airlines%20Trip%20Report/DSC00985.jpg

They also perform their own maintenance in-house at POS:

http://i476.photobucket.com/albums/rr130/SCL767/Caribbean%20Airlines%20Trip%20Report/DSC01443.jpg

And also, Southamerican passengers will have no problems flying on BW, since they are devoted to each and every passenger that flies with Caribbean Airlines. They recently increased POS-CCS-POS to 10x weekly!

Here is a pic of one of BW's refurbished Dash-8-300Q:

Great photos! Makes me excited to go home on Sunday! hehe

I am yet to fly CAL (other than the Dash8s) but hopefully soon I will. My mother, who was has flowen AA and CO exclusively for the past 3 or 4 years flew CAL in J on Sunday to Miami and said she will find it difficult to fly AA again. She said it reminds her of the good old days of BWIA except in a very modern and prefessional evironment on top of that local warmth of the Caribbean.

Keep on posting these trip reports of CAL. I love then and really want them to succeed! Maximum exposure on A.net is great! hehe

Thanks, same with my family members. On BW the J cabin atmosphere is more intimate as compared to AA's J cabin. Linen and China, plus menus and meals are served in courses. It's only 10K miles to upgrade on FLL/MIA-POS. I really don't mind the Y cabin on BW as well. Same friendly service, and the cabin crew is extremely professional. LOL, it was AA who got me hooked on BW since they had to rebook me on BW last summer.

Quoting AA1818 (Reply 3):

I did a LAN TR too in Y. Same great service! I could have gone with AA and been upgraded for free; however LAN's Y service is better!

In regards to the meal, just a minor point I see a salad and hot meal but no desert? I am guessing the low fare of only $100 was one way; $200 roundtrip?

BWIA used to participate in the United frequent flyer program. I think Caribbean only have their own plan.

You kept your in-flight main meal concealed under the foil wrapper in your picture.
What was served ?

Yes, Caribbean Miles is their program and one can also use their Caribbean Miles number to earn and redeem miles on BA systemwide. They also have a program called Club Caribbean which allows lounge access at all destinations served by Caribbean Airlines.

Traditional Caribbean fare; jerk chicken, rice and peas, and veggies.

Actually the fare was over 300 USD. AA however usually has fares around 220 USD. But many passengers on the flight were connecting onwards to Georgetown, Guyana and Paramaribo, Suriname. Those fares are over 700 USD!

Thank you SCL767 for this great BW trip report - it's great to read about Caribbean Airlines, which I last flew in 2007. The pictures were fabulous too. I hope that you enjoyed the meal - BW has always made a fuss about its inflight food service.

Thanks again.

I loved your report SCL. I flew BW from JFK-POS and back last July in Y and I loved it. Food was amazing, flight attendants were amazing. The plane was ex-ATA and the tail wasn't painted yet. But I love the color scheme. Just one question, did the flight attendants keep the lights on during final approach? I know on Us airlines the cabin is completely dark for nighttime landings and takeoffs. Thanks for the report.

Glad to hear of your good experience. You travelled on 9Y-SLU which today proudly displays the full CAL livery. On all my flights thus far with them, they do turn off most of the cabin lights for landing.
