Delta: Coach (New York LGA-Ft. Lauderdale) Pics

Mon Mar 16, 2009 11:15 pm

I was recently on a trip to Florida and I was booked on Delta. The flight down to FLL was scheduled to leave LGA @ 7:05 am. We arrived at the airport at around 5:00AM and there was no line for check-in. The Delta terminal at LGA needs a bit of an upgrade but otherwise had the perfect amount of stores and outlets. Delta Flight 1457 was scheduled to leave out of Gate 3 which was a close walk. I also noticed how many DL 757's there were parked I counted about three including the Pink! plane. The flight was operated by an MD-88. Did DL use to fly their 75's even after Song to Ft. Lauderdale from LGA?

Boarding was done very quick and soon the 3 flight attendants did their final checks and safety briefing and we were soon taxing to the runway.

Takeoff was quick and we soon leveled out at 35,000

The FA's began a beverage service about 40 minutes after takeoff. They also passed around a snack for purchase cart which I declined. I choose orange juice and soon after taking a couple of pictures I went to sleep. Since the I had the row to myself I was in luck.

The cabin of the DL MD-88 was spotless. The cabin interior was very clean and up to date and the seats were pretty comfortable.

However the only downside of this flight was that there was no WiFi onboard. Doesn't DL have a couple of MD-88's with that installed already? Anyhow landing was smooth and we were soon parked at the gate in sunny Florida.

Return

After three full days in sunny Florida it was time to head back to NY. The flight was scheduled to leave FLL @ 6:46 PM and was showing an on time departure when I arrived at the airport. Check-in again was a breeze and there was no line for security. When I arrived at gate D6 boarding had already begun so I didn't have anytime to take pictures of the airplane. I did get the tail number though.

Boarding took a little bit longer this time, but soon after the usual safety demonstration we were in the air and on our way back to New York.

About 30 minutes after takeoff the FA's began a beverage service and passed out the EATS menu, however I didn't buy anything from the menu. Some people did order a meal but I noticed it was coming from the front galley, is there no ovens in the aft galley? The flight went by very quickly and soon we landed in NY. We parked at Gate 3 and had to be towed in. Does anyone know why that is?

Overall I would give DL a 10/10 for the two flights. The cabin was clean and the service was perfect.

Hey, great report. FLL sounds great this time of year. You probably had to be towed in at LGA because the gate is too close to the side of the terminal. They don't want a wing hitting the building or anything. Great report, I love delta and I look forward to more from you in the future.

I noticed a marked improvement from my four Delta flights in November to my most recent four Delta flights in February -- cleanliness, boarding, service. I hope the positive trend continues.

By the way, GREAT shots of New York City. I've lived here all my life, but I still get excited to see beautiful clear pictures. Isn't it amazing that such a famous vibrant city can be housed on such a small island?!

None of the galleys on the MD-88 have ovens anymore. That is an interesting observation however because our MD-88's don't have full carts in the forward galley, and the EATS cart is always stowed in the aft galley by catering.

Thanks for sharing! I didn't know LGA-FLL was long enough for EATS to be offered. Cool! I've had only positive experiences w/DL since switching from NW (well before the merger). It seems like they really turned a new leaf after BK.
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

Quite a few do, yes. It is my understanding that the mod is pretty quick. However, you were just unlucky to be on one that didn't get i yet. That's all.

There's aluminum fencing in the area behind and no jetblast is allowed.

Great pictures of Manhattan - I agree! That is one of the best shots of the city I have seen on a TR to be honest.
From now on, I vote to officially call that the Sully Departure from LGA!
None shall pass!!!!
