BA Clubworld LGW-MCO-LGW Holiday,lots Pics

Thu Mar 19, 2009 2:59 pm

Back in December BA had a half price offer for your Executive miles, Club World for just 50,000 miles return instead of the usual 100,000. As I had some spare I booked two trips to the USA, this is my second to Florida for some of that much needed sunshine and the chance to be a kid again in the Theme parks.
Departure was from Gatwick at a reasonable time of 11:20, I took the train from London and was at the airport in about 40minutes,very smooth trip, as I only travel with hand luggage,if I really need it I buy it when I get there, check-in was simple. The airport was quite for a Sunday and the departure lounge only about 30% full. Had only been in the lounge about 15 minutes when there was an annoucement that the departure area had been evacuated and we should all remain where we were.

Looking out the window could see the people being moved to a safe spot.

Well they had a nice day for it, after 20 minutes the all clear was sounded and they were allowed back in.

As I say the lounge was not really busy, a good supply of snacks and newspapers were available and a gentle Sunday atmosphere was in place.

It was about a 8 minute walk to the gate and when I arrived, with 30minutes to closure was suprised to find the area almost empty, it seems that there was a light load today and most people had already gone onboard, I hurried on.

I was welcomed aboard and found my favorite seat, newspapers and pre-take drink offered, I just had water, well it was not mid day yet.The Club World cabin was 80% full and quite loud. We pushed back early because of the light load and after a quick taxi we took off to the East and climbed out of Gatwick.

Once we had got to crusing altitude staff came round with menu and toilet bags, the menu in Club to the USA always seems very good and lots to pick from.

The drinks cart came out and I was ready for some wine now, the choice was good.

I settled for the Chardonnay 2006 for the whole of the flight, I have had this before and it hits all the right notes and light enough for a 9 hour flight.I was starting to feel hungry now so got the table out. Feed me!
Very good starter, full of rich flavours and went very well with the wine.
Okay,nothing special.
The wonderful biryani, this really hit the spot. Vineet Bhatias has been working with BA for sometime now and you always get a great meal.
Dessert was cheese and fruit and more Chardonnay.
The choice, while not AVOD, was good and passed time quickly.
Good size screen and clear picture.
It did not seem like 7 hours but soon we neared Boston and just a couple of hours to go.
Time for one more movie, and then it was a quick walk to the back of the plane.

We landed a little ahead of time and were soon off the plane, immigration was a breeze and out of the terminal and into the rental car all in about 20 minutes.
Do you like the rental car?

Crazy thing, with the top down there was room just for the laptop in the trunk, hand luggage had to go in the passenger seat.It went like stink, went round corners as if on rails and was lots of fun but did drink petrol, still it was a holiday car.
My apartment was very nice, a condo set up called WorldQuest, very good quality.
View from room

Next day it was off to the parks to be a big kid again, here are a sample batch of parks.

Did not know when I booked that it was "Spring Break" in the states so every where was quite busy.
Do love the old style Disney artwork.

Now I just had to include these three people, rude or what. They barged their way past people calling out to stand aside.Saw them again about an hour later still at it.

All good things come to an end and a week later it was time to take that crazy car back to the airport.
At Orlando BA makes use of the Delta Club lounge, very nice not too busy.
We were all boarded by 6:45 pm and again an early pushback and takeoff to the south.

Staff were quick off the mark after take off with menu and toilet bags and the first drinks were served very quickly.

Dinner menu.I had the smoked duck marget with crispy pear chip.
Very good flavours.

Asian-style braised beef short rib with wasabi mash.

I skipped dessert and went to sleep, awaking a hour or so before landing.

Now breakfast in Club world is a sad affair,

I think an overnight from the eastcoast in Club should be a full breakfast, infact I filled in a comment card on the last flight moaning about it and to my amazement got a "sorry" letter and 5,000 miles, did not expect that.

There is a small arrival lounge at Gatwick in the basement of a hotel, very nice and light and very clean.I made use of the showers and let the morning rush hour go past.

Just a note about the cabin interiors on the Gatwick based 777.
My outbound aircraft was G-VIIT first flight May1999
Inbound aircraft was G-VIIO first flight Jan1999
I found that the fittings are starting to show many signs of wear.

Hope they get the new ClubWorld on these aircraft soon, it is a great product and
really enjoyed the trip and the service. Have to wait until May for the new holiday.
Thanks for reading, hope you liked it.

You mention the poor breakfast. Last year in Club on this route, we didn't even get the bacon rolls. The breakfast really was an anticlimax after the meal the evening before.

Thanks for report!! Im knocking on 40's door and i still love Disney, and Florida, to death!  Big grin
Seeing your report has got me all excited for my up-coming trip there in June... hopefully flying MAN-FRA-MCO on LH Business. One question though, what, and where, is the very "blue" looking ride/pool?
Once again, thanks for posting.

It is a show at Seaworld called "Blue Horizons" , You must sea it when you go.
Dolphins whales birds and people all performing, about 20 minutes long, great show.
