British Airways:London Gatwick-Tampa International

Sat Mar 21, 2009 4:53 pm

Hi,

Just thought I'd try to upload a few pics from the last flight I managed to take from London Gatwick to Tampa International with British Airways. Was a long but quite a fun flight, hope the pics turn out ok.

Was quite sunny when we left in the morning:

British Airways checkin/fast bag drop at London Gatwick (landside):

London Gatwick airside (just after security):

BA2167 to Tampa departure 12.50pm:

London Gatwick airside (again):

British Airways 777's (they fly to a range of destinations from here):

London Gatwick airside (again but different part):

British Airways Boeing 777 pushback/taxiing:

British Airways Boeing 777 cabin (I was quite impressed with how clean it was and also how roomy it is with the overhead baggage bins well concealed/out of the way):

Pillow, blanket and amnety kit (heaphones, socks and toothbrush):

Wing view (huge wing):

Just the display saying the entertainment is not currently available (before takeoff):

Distance to destination 4423 miles (I think) (makes the flight roughly 9-9.5 hours):

Map view (apologies for the picture quality):

Outside view (before pushback):

Taxiing to runway 26L. Easyjet plane (ex GB Airways):

Helicopter parked:

Air Malta narrowbody:

Portugalia (Fokker 100 I think?):

Runway 26L takeoff (cloudy). Straight-out departure to the West:

Above the cloud:

Amnety kit (socks/toothbrush):

High Life inflight magazine:

Drink (I had an apple juice) and mini-pretzel snack:

Apporaching/in cruise:

British Airways lunch. (Prawn cocktail, choice of Shepherd's Pie I think or chicken curry, bread and butter, red wine (choice of Bordeaux or another choice), banoffee pie, Twix bar, mineral water, coffee:

Chicken curry main course (tasted better than it photographed!):

Banoffee pie dessert:

Map view (apologies for the picture quality):

In cruise:

Wing view:

Snack box/coffee was presented about 2 hours before arrival:

I watched Madagascar 2 and Slumdog Millionaire both of which I thought were pretty good to pass the time.

Snack box contents (sandwich, fruit, cake, water, coffee):

Map view (past Bermuda/approaching the Florida coastline). The route was basically across the Atlantic south of Newfoundland and Canada then North of Bermuda and direct to Florida:

In cruise/descending:

Descending with speedbrake:

Descending:

Final approach (Northerly runway I think):

Landing:

2 Delta aircraft/taxiing:

Taxiing (JetBlue plane I think):

Parking at the gate:

Inside TPA Terminal:

Hope the pics were ok. Was quite a cool flight at the time.

Any comments etc. welcome.

Many thanks,

Pierre

Nice TR. The cabin looks very comfortable and the LGW pics are great. The catering on board also looks very good. A very solid product from BA.

Thanks for posting

Nice report & pictures, looks like another standard BA light, nothing wrong with that!

Cheers

Hi,

Just to say many thanks for the comment/encouragement. Was quite a cool flight at the time and with the movies definitely didn't feel like 9 hours which was cool.

Many thanks,

Pierre.

Hi Pierre,
thanks for this report. Wondered about the BA 772 product, since I'm flying on BA2173 (LGW-JFK) in 3 weeks. Still didn't figure out if my flight will be a 3 class or 4 class B772.
Is BA staff coming around with various drink offerings throughout the flight? Or do you get them yourself in the galley?
One tip, try not to use flashlight when making a picture of e.g. the IFE screen. That's why they look so bright. For the rest, pictures are of good quality!

Regards,
Eric

Didn't know that British Airways flew from Gatwick to JFK. Sounds like a pretty cool flight (would make a cool trip report maybe).

The drink/snack I pictured was offered as part of the service. They also came round with water/orange juice during the flight which I didn't take though. Generally I don't notice service that much but luckily this time the guy serving my section was generally very nice which helped too.

Many thanks,

Pierre.

Nice TR, impressed that BA gave you a whole bottle of wine.

If memory serves me right, the 767 doing MAN-JFK was axed in favour of operating the flight from Gatwick. It's a relatively new route.

Thanks for the TR. I believe this is the first nonstop transatlantic trip report for TPA on here. How full was the flight?

Have made the flight twice before and the flight this time was quite full like normal (maybe 80-90%). I know there are flights to Miami and Orlando but the Tampa International flight is always well booked for British Airways.

Many thanks,

Pierre.

Very nice TR! I took this flight back in 2006 and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was nearly 100% full.

Great TR and photos. It was truly nice to see a London to FL flight, even more so, on a 777!  bigthumbsup

Will maybe try to make one (am still in Florida on holiday) but the only problem is it's a night flight and the pictures, especially of outside, normally don't turn out too well. Might be able to get some pics from within the cabin though so will hopefully make a post.

Many thanks,

Pierre.
