Delta SEA-ATL-MLB / FLL-ATL-SEA (pics!)

Sun May 03, 2009 9:02 pm

Hi all!

This is my first trip report so feel free to make recommendations!

I headed to Florida for week long vacation. I was going to visit family in Melbourne, Florida and then head down to Miami for a couple of days with friends. Melbourne is located on the Space Coast of Florida about an hour and 15 minutes from Orlando. It's very relaxed. Folks are nice and visitors from Europe, Canada, the Northeast and Midwest part of the US can be found about town. The beaches are quiet, the weather is great and it's a peaceful town. It's the home of Harris Corporation, Northrop Grumman and Florida Institute of Technology. Oh, an there are TWO Starbucks! (three if you count the one in the Barnes and Noble).

I fly Delta to Melbourne because it's the only airline into that airport. Options into MCO price wise work better sometimes. I add $150 for transportion back and forth to ticket prices to see what's the best option.

Delta Airlines
Saturday April 4
Depart SEA 6:00am actual 6:44am
Delta Flight 1050 to ATL
Boeing 757-200
Assigned Seat 27C moved to 1C (woo hoo! upgrade!)
Arrive ATL 1:47pm actual 1:51
Flight Time 4:07
My flight information is from
Gate A13

I grabbed a breakfast sandwich and ate looking at the A Concourse - served by American, Delta, Virgin America and Jetblue. I think Frontier too.

It's a haul down to gate A13.....there are two moving walkways but I always walk because
it's good circulation and people watching (not so much at 5am on a Saturday....)

Tully's is another local brand of coffee. I've tried it a number of times but just don't enjoy it over Starbucks. 7-11 and Dunkin Donuts do a better job on the cup of joe than Tully's.

A quiet Virgin America A320 sleeping...I really like their product and would love to try it down to California!

A Jetblue A320 hanging out....I think they have a great product and brand. My nephew has flown them a number of times and is a fan.

At the end of the A Terminal you can find the old Delta Crown Club (they closed a while back).

I made it down to the end of the A terminal. Seems like there was some gate change for the flights but since there are 4 gates right in the area, it was clear (for most people).

On the Boeing 757-200 we enter mid-way. The Business Class seats are to the left.

Leg room....I'm 6'2"

Another Delta to JFK (I think)

Hey Captain! I have some questions!

Pre-flight 6am ...just OJ!

I have a lot of respect for Heidi Klum because she has it together. She really built herself into a respectable brand.

I think topic has been discussed to death...but here's the ad in Sky Magazine. Australia and New Zealand are on my list!

The omlete and sausage were good plus the fruit ( I know I ate breakfast earlier, but I was on vacation!)

I loved the SONG product from Delta...but I think those birds are going across the Atlantic these days and this is an old TWA bird? It was nice in all aspects except for the overhead video.

The movie was Marley and Me. Yeah, so I'm a dog person and it was on my list of things to see however, didn't expect it on a flight. The flight attendant ask me if I needed a tissue at the end....nice. I also spoke with a nice lady across the way who saw it and was, um, as concerned, like me.

Here's the view

I've been through ATL so many times. I decided to walk to other terminals to get the circulation moving since I had time before my connection to MLB. I headed over to terminal E that has the most excitement....

I head down towards the tram that connects terminals and includes a walkway....has anyone thought of the CARPET design of airports. Well...I took some pictures along the way (there must be a logic to it but I don't get it)

Guess where this bird is headed back to?

I took the Delta Connection to Melbourne -
Flight #5304
Departed 4:01pm
Arrived 5:07pm
Flight Time 1:06pm
CRJ 200
Seat 2A

Carpet in Atlanta on the C Concourse

The Florida coast is has an inter-coastal waterway that is beautiful. You can understand why hurricanes are so destructive....

The flightaware view!

Arrival in to Melbourne!

the carpet!

Disappointing the first Palm Tree I see is fake! Come on MLB!

There are the real ones!

Um, ok. Melbourne Police (hehehe)

Some of Melbourne -

Manatees! Mom and baby!

The boat tour was, um, ok.

One of the chores on the list for a while was converting old 35MM slides. I've always known my Dad was in the Navy and headed to Alaska in the late 50's. I actually found some slides he took on his trip! My roots are on the east coast of the USA so to find these - especially so long ago - are mostly ironic since I live in Seattle now.

United guys -----check it out!

I rented a car and headed off to Miami to hang with Friends for a few days! The ride was about 3 hours. All I can say is that South Florida drivers are crazy. That's being nice.

Here are some pics:

Heading down US 1 to connec to the Florida Turnpike.

Yes - the windows are open!

my $5 Orchids from Yong's Stand on US1 in Vero Beach!

Solar running Parking meter! Very Cool!

I love Miami for it's food choices - I ate Pervuian, Argentine, Spanish and Cuban! So awesome! Of course, beer is available (memories of Buenos Aires!)

I took an Airboat ride - highly recommend it at least once.

Miami is so colorful - I took some pics along South Beach

Return to Seattle
Sunday April 12
My return is out of Fort Lauderdale because Miami was about $300 more and my friends were happy to drive up to FLL to drop me off.

Delta Airlines
Sunday April 12
Depart FLL 6:35pm actual 7:08pm
Delta Flight 1063 to ATL
Boeing 767-300
Assigned Seat 27C
Arrive ATL actual 8:43pm
Flight Time 1:35
My flight information is from
Gate B6

Security was slow on this Easter Sunday!

The carpet...

Here is my plane up to Atlanta

Jetblue on the tarmac

Delta 763 interior

The carpet!

Flightaware view!

Arrival into Atlanta was fine. One thing - my flight into Seattle contained the same FLIGHT number, but was a different plane (Boeing 757-200) and took off at gate A17. I received an error message at when trying to do a seat selection and see the type of plane.

Flight 1063
Boeing 757-200
Depart ATL 10:05 (local)
Arrive SEA 11:49 (local)
Total Flight time 4:44

Once I got to the gate, it was a mad house. Apparently, at this particular gate, they need to board by row number regardless of Medallion status. The gate agent kept on announcing it as a safety issue. By the time I got to my seat, it was packed and everyone seemed to be in a cranky mood, including myself. It really was a bummer since I had such a nice vacation. I only mustered two photos...

Flightaware view!

Hope you enjoyed!

A really cool TR. Well done.

I enjoyed the looks at the carpets and all the designs and things. I would of liked a pic of the actual seat in F class...but I cant complain.  Smile

Thanks for an enjoyable read  Smile Looking forward to more of your TRs in the future.

Good report and even better choice on driving around in a G6 while in Florida. I own one and think you made a smart decision!

Wow! I'm surpirsed to see the 767-300 on DL has PTV's now! I'm flying DL from IST-JFK in September on a 763 and I really hope they have PTVs on them for that flight as well.

Great report!

Did you say this was your first trip report? Absolutely loved it, well done.

My only comment/concern is about your carpet fixation, are you taking medication for this, he he, he.

Keep up the good work!

Yes! and that's a small one. I was in the Everglades at the Royal Palm visitor center just after the park entrance. It was an incredible experience. I also hit the northern Everglades for an airboat ride.

My god father is that GLASS is spy before you have left the ground!!!!

So this brings into question are the FA's out of plastic and forget full or is there no such rule as no glass before take-off and the sight of plastic is simply cost cutting?

I did all of my flight training at MLB, so your pictures bring back a lot of memories. I also worked line at Atlantic Jet Center and F.I.T. aviation at MLB, so I know that airport quite well.

Though living in Melbourne, I never made it to Captain Hiram's, though I remember the commercials for that place.

Nice Trip Report!

The ex-Song birds are flying domestically as the 757's with PTV's in them- the ex-TWA birds are the TATL birds with winglets  Smile

I flew one of the TWA planes CVG-JFK a few months ago and DL did an amazing job refurbishing them, they look immaculate inside and out.
