Manchester - Juliana - Lots Of Pics-

Wed May 20, 2009 1:39 pm

Quite long so take a pew and grab yourself a drink  Smile

This Trip was a first for me...1st Time with a friend on a holiday...1st time after all my holidays that I experienced an island of 6 miles to throw so many problems at me...but on the whole...It was a good trip...mainly for that 200 foot spit of sand that lies at the end of the runway...no stresses there...(Except for where the car was parked 300 feet away where I got my camera stolen) so some advice: Dont put your camera in the cooler even if you lock the car...I'm sure I locked it...

So from now on the trip report is positive  Smile

AF 2269
Dep: Manchester Airport : 15:30
Arr: Paris CDG : 18:00

I arrived early for a bit of a look around, had a look in the Aviation Shop in T1 Arrivals...then took a few pics...

http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt324/fca767_2009/_SCF9478.jpg

We checked in at about 1 hour before, check-in was really quick about 10 peeps, we made our way through a strange new security area of T2...They've moved it one floor up and it just looks a bit confusing lol...

http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt324/fca767_2009/_SCF9482.jpg

So we head to Le King de Burger and get some much needed cups of tea...then after a few sips...and a trip to la toilette, it was time for boarding...
A cute A318 awaited at Gate 213...Took off RW23L and away we went on a sunny UK day to paris...it was a great calm trip...we got in the mood with 15 mins of Rush Hour 3 (set in Paris) before the battery went lol...thought there might have been power points...

http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt324/fca767_2009/_SCF9483.jpg

http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt324/fca767_2009/_SCF9487.jpg

Immigration for an EU flight was really bad this time...about 1 hour...compared to the first time I went about 3 years ago of 10 mins...I'm guessing it's because I went to a Different Terminal with BA...

Just after Immigration

Right so We leave our suitcases to continue on to St Martin so we spent the night in Paris...The trains are a bit bad for an Airport train...soon we arrived at Place de la Madeleine, a really nice part of Paris where I last came to...Hotel La Sangiune is a tricky Bugger to find...even though it's on one of the 4 corners of this massive Square...but well worth staying here...it has one of the most friendliest owners I've seen...and the staff are excellent too...opening the kitchen so we could have a drink as the shops were closed.
If you're going to Paris stay here...you can't go wrong...

With Google Maps in hand we studied the curved of buildings and roads to navigate our way to the eiffel tower Big grin and what took about 40 mins to get to...

Dep: Paris CDG : 10:55am
Arr: Princess Juliana : 15:30

So the next day we head for Le Metro to get to the Airport...We checked in for both flights yesterday so it was straight to the Gate Area...we had a quick eat in a restaurant and off we went to the Gate and bus to take us to a remote stand...

http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt324/fca767_2009/_SCF9586.jpg

Up the steps and parked our Derrier's on the 2 seats on our right, behind the wing...4 Lovely engines waiting to push us all the way over the 3500 miles of Atlantic Ocean (with exception to the Flores Islands in-between)

http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt324/fca767_2009/_SCF9590.jpg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHbU5jXIZAo

Pour le Mange, food was as always, nice...some people don't like airline food, but I absolutely love it...especially the puddings...
What I thought was great about Economy was the Bottle of red wine we all got...

http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt324/fca767_2009/_SCF9591.jpg

BIG PLUS:
They set up the Drinks Trolley's in the Galley's and in the middle section so we can just go help ourselves...it's all set-up for us...you can just stand around in the back have a chat etc...Never seen this before on other airlines  Smile

As we Headed nearer to the Tropics, the clouds came higher and higher until we were skimming our way accross while listening to Micheal Jackson's "Beat it" and "you gotta be starting somethin"...

The Flight Attendents were very friendly...Especially the Lady and Gentleman in the following Picture...I asked after landing if I could have a look in the cockpit...She was really happy for me to...but after she asked the main purser and purser going up front...she said it would be a security problem...(though it was ok on Delta but I guess the captain wanted to get off to the Beach Bar hehe Big grin

About the Island: If you get a car and are staying up at the top right at Orient Beach...Drive the Left way round the island...because if you make the wrong right hand turn, it will only take you 5 minutes to realise that you are lost...Trust me...we got lost going both ways round for the whole 6 days we were there...

The immigration was faster than what we had arriving here from the UK...I went out with a friend as she had a smoke...and going back through, they stopped me as i had 2 bottles of wine in my carry-on from the 2 longhaul flights...luckily they only took one out (both over the liquid amount) so was quite lucky  Smile...

Loved the photos! What a great place - sun, sea and aeroplanes Big grin

The presentation of the food tray looks very good on the long sector and I love those little fresh pieces of bread .... I'm sure it's nicer than the generic pieces of bread packaged in plastic that we are all used to in Y. I suppose AF couldn't really get away with that sort of thing! Same applies for the wines.

How busy was the flight to/from SXM?

The crew looked very friendly, although the lady seems to have tied her scarf in a very tight knot!

Thanks again.

Thanks very much  Smile the Sea was gorgous, finally I've found water that looks like what you see on television or holiday brochures lol Big grin

The flight was nice and full...I saw no empty seats in either Long-Haul Sector...
The Manchester flight was about 95%  Smile

I flew to St Maarten on a Pan Am DC-10 in the early 1980s. Anguilla is only about 30 minutes by fast ship and St Barts only about 15 minutes by plane. A great island to visit. Thanks.

The funny thing is, that this was the first time I decided that I wouldn't need travel insurance, and guess what happens lol  Smile it was about £260 and needed a more Pro one anyways so I bought a D90  Smile now my bank balance is suffering so spending very little per week...maybe £20 per week Big grin

Yes that Qantas...I was like What! but I couldn't find any info as to why it was there  Smile

Great report!

Is that just a passenger sitting in the jumpseat in the pic of the AF A340 on the runway at St Marteen?

Nice report & pix, thanks for sharing.

Looks like AF were pretty good, funny, they seem to have better service in Y than shows in some of the J reports recently!

Nice place to visit, on my want to visit list, not sure if the wife will buy this one though!

Cheers

Yes I was suprised, also by how good my new camera took so much detail, I cropped that pic, but was further away  Smile
I'd love to jumpseat as a passenger  Smile

Yep they were good, and having a drinks area where you can do what you like is great, and allowing you to mill around  Smile

Yep so long as you stay at sonesta or somewhere near, we had to drive 6 miles, and would be dodgy at night, we got lost in the day lol Big grin
