RTW In 3 Weeks Part 4 Pics + Videos! BA Flight

Wed Sep 09, 2009 8:38 am

GRU – EZE: Sunday, August 23rd, BA 247. B747-400
SDT: 07:05
ADT: 07:10
SAT: 09:50
AAT: 09:40
Seat 20A

I had never been to Sao Paulo before… for those who haven’t been there, I recommend this city highly… it is full of life, full of nice people and there are tons of things to do. I am aware it is not the safest place on earth, but if you are with people from there, then you should be fine.

This is me in one of the nice monuments:

We were to be picked up at 4 in the morning as our flight was leaving at 7 AM. I also wanted to be there earlier as I was unable to pick my seat on the internet site, which is not that good since it was a business class seat after all…

We arrived at the airport around ten of 5 in the morning, and the place was already filled with people. It is a very 70s airport, but at least it’s clean and easy to navigate.

Pictures of the airport:

The ground staff was friendly, and I got a window seat… we went through immigration and walked to the gate… the plane was already there:

Can you read the registration?

Boarding was right on schedule and soon enough we were offered champagne, water or OJ. Finding a little tacky to have champagne so early (in reality I had a small hangover) I went for the water:

It was very empty this morning. More than ever I felt the effects of the world economic crisis. Some pictures of my seat and the cabin:

The headphones are kinda sucky too:

This is really not one of my favorite seats. It feels a little tight and I hate riding backwards. The service was really nice though. Flight attendants were happy and helpful. I’ll admit, I have a thing for British Airways… they, in my humble opinion, still have kept some of that glamour of flying… I know you’ll disagree, especially in intra-European flights… but I like them.

The entertainment system is better than Iberia’s, but worse than LAN’s:

I looked out the window and saw ElAl from Tel Aviv landing, couldn’t get a video of it, sorry. But did take some pictures:

Take off was powerful:

Right after take off, breakfast was served:

I decided to skip the omelette or sandwich. I do have to say that the flight attendant tried twice to make me have the omelette… she said it was quite tasty… shy was very nice and smiley so I really liked her positive cheerful attitude.

I felt asleep, and soon enough we begun our descent. Do you guys get the feeling that you are always seated in the wrong side of the plane? I mean, we descended into Buenos Aires, but the city was on the other side… we passed the airport… and somehow I missed that too.

Landing was really nice, check it out:

There was a Mexicana plane with a new livery for me:

Like in Brazil and Peru, we were requested to fill out a form stating that we had had no swine flu symptoms in the past 14 days… like fever, nausea, headaches, soar throats, etc. it also requested that you stated your address in the next 10 days, which was completely difficult for me .

Conclusion: I love British Airways… I can see their product has worsened in the past years… but still, love them. However, the seat is too tight… you cannot chose your seat on-line. The crew was really nice…

So far in my trip I think this is the ranking from best to worse:
1. LAN
2. British Airways
3. Iberia

What do you think? Also, read my next leg (SYD-EZE).

I figured I'd better reply before you started whinging again that no one had. Good report, though I very much disagree with you on Sao Paulo being a nice place to visit. Of course, maybe it changed it the last three years.

Thanks for the report, I love British Airways, even though I have never flown them. Any airliner that flies large numbers of 747s is great in my book (hee). Thanks for the videos as well. Love that wing rising up to catch the wind! My dream to fly a BA 747 someday.
I love dem planes....

Great report, glad you liked the service on board  Smile

BA.COM can be a pain now and then when trying to check in, just happens it was the day you tried, normally you can get the seat online 24 hours before.
