The Eire trip (part 1): AMS-WAT-GWY-DUB on Aer Arann // 19May08
At 05.30 the telephone started to ring, wake-up call!
After a shower and a cup of coffee we checked out at the reception and at 06.30 we left the hotel in the shuttle bus. The hotel was completely full so the reception had advised us to leave early to avoid full shuttle bus troubles after seven o’clock.
At the airport we checked in at one of the Aer Lingus self-service machines. With only a few available seats in the middle of the aircraft we picked 24K and 25K. Unfortunately above the wing, but hey, it could be a lot worse.
We stopped somewhere for breakfast and at 08.15 we went to the gate.

The Airbus A330-300, EI
-DUZ, was already parked at gate B24 after her flight from Chicago. At half past eight boarding started and we pushed back from the gate ten minutes ahead of schedule. Runway 10 was still in use, just like the evening before. After waiting for an inbound Aer Lingus A321 it was our turn.
See you next time Dublin!
Taxiing to runway 10
Inbound Aer Lingus A321
The flight was very quiet. Most people from Chicago already left the plane in Dublin and those continuing to Shannon were sleeping. No board service is provided by the cabin crew on this flight because the flying time is not long enough to do a service.
Turning right, heading to Shannon
At cruise level
Top of descent
There was a strong wind in Shannon but the visibility was pretty good with a nice sunshine. At 09.45 we landed at Shannon’s runway 06. After vacating the runway we taxied to the terminal and parked at gate 6.
On final approach for runway 06

St. Aoife will return to Dublin and Chicago within a few hours
Other traffic at Shannon
We went outside to take a few pictures:
Boeing 720 tail monument
Cargo aircraft connected to an airbridge, never seen this before
Have a good flight!
Because the strong wind was a bit cold we decided to wait inside the terminal for our next flight. After the first Omni DC-10 had departed another one showed up so the departure lounge was crowded with American soldiers.

Boarding for our flight started at 12.30. The aircraft, EI
, had already arrived from Wroclaw. The flight was almost full but boarding was completed on-time and we pushed back a few minutes early. Take-off at runway 06:
The cruise altitude today was 33000ft and the announced flying time was approximately 75 minutes.
Climbing out of Shannon
The cabin was almost full
After a calm flight descending was started and during approach I spotted Dunsfold Airport, also known as the TopGear test track.
. At 14.10 we set foot on UK soil and landed on London Gatwick’s runway 08R.
In the departure lounge we found a nice bar with a view on the south terminal and the runway.

Airbus A319-111 // G-EJAR
Economy // 20A
Boarding for our flight to Amsterdam started at 17.30. G-EJAR was already waiting at the gate so the boarding process was completed quickly. We went off blocks ahead of schedule and after startup we taxied to the active runway, which was still 08R.
Taxiing to runway 08R
Climbing to 23000ft
The announced flying time was approximately 50 minutes at an altitude of 23000ft. I bought a pepperoni panini which was very tasty. Flights between London and The Netherlands are always very short so after half an hour in the air descending was started. The approach was via Noordwijk, Abbenes, Nieuw-Vennep and Hoofddorp and at eight o’clock we landed at runway 06.
We parked at stand H2
, next to another easyJet flight to Milan Malpensa. The End!
