Thursday Nov 19th, I drove up from Seattle to Vancouver to pick up my new passport from the consulate there. It rains 90% throughout the high way I-5 all the way to Canada. After having early dinner in downtown Vancouver, I drove to park the car at the long term parking at YVR and took the shuttle to the international terminal. I went almost exactly 3 hours before the flight so I have more time to check out new airport and the lounge.
I was the second passenger to check in and got the seat that I had chosen 12A. The check in process went smoothly and the agent was so nice.

After taking a little walk to see planes and some shops, it was time to go to the lounge. The Cathay Lounge in Vancouver has some sandwiches, noodles, Dim Sum, and various drinks to offer. It may not have lots of choices of food like the one in HKG airport (that I will check out next month when I fly CX to HKG), but it is pretty decent.
When it is time of the flight, I walked over to gate D73 and half of the passengers are already on board.

Flight 1: CX888 YVR-JFK

When I was seated, the flight attendant came to greet me and called my last name and offering me a drink. I asked for Cathay delight but was told later that they changed the signature drinks for the flight, so I went the champagne instead. The seat 12A was in the first section of the Business class and connected to the first class so I got a chance to go get some photos from the First class cabin.
Because the seat in this section has only 2 rows (11-12), it gives more privacy to the passengers (only 8 seats in the section). I thought I wouldn’t have liked the seat because it turns toward the aisle but it actually work just fine on the 777 and you can still see the window quite easy.
The Menu was handed before the flight took off. I had a chance to work on my computer a bid before the supper was served.
There are 4 choices on the Menu with 3 hot meal choices and a light choice of noodle. I choose the lemongrass chicken which was very tasty and came with Chinese broccoli which is my favorite. The salad was ok. I liked the salt and pepper jars which were very cute. The setting was nice and classy. The flight attendants were all very attentive and offer me drinks all the time.

For desserts, I chose the mixed fruit along with New York cheesecake with raspberry sauce. The end of the course was a piece of chocolate. I order scotch throughout the whole flight. I think I had about 9 of them (includes 2 from the lounge before the flight). The flight attendant saw that I actually handled those drinks pretty well and still sober, so they didn’t have any problem offering me. After the meal I watch few movies and got a chance to chat with one of the flight attendants. She was surprised how I know a lot about her company so I told her that I am an airplane freak who is a member of A.net.

|trying to get some sleep!|
I got few hours more to relax on my seat and put the seat to a flat bed but couldn’t fall asleep even after all those drinks. It is because I usually stay up late and when we are about the land it’s on 2.30 AM on the west coast time. It took us about 4 hours and 40 mins til we land but because of the US law, they did not allow us the open the aircraft door til 6AM. I was the first one to get off the plane.
I took Airtrain and E train into Manhattan since it was early in the morning, everything worked out pretty fast. This is quite a short visit to NYC, I only stay 2 nights. I got a chance to go eat at Asiate (Mandarin Oriental Hotel), Tao, and Buddakan. Here are few pics from NYC.

Sunday night, it was time to go back to Seattle. I took the E train from where I live in Chelsea to JFK airport. The check in went smooth again and I was assigned with the seat 65A (the row before the last row) in Economy class.
Flight 2: CX889 JFK-YVR
Aircraft: B777-300ER B-KPK
Seat: Business 56A
Gate: 6 (Terminal 7)
Depart: 21.45 pm (Nov 22nd)
Arrive: 0.15 am (Nov 23rd)
The load was pretty low so I guess most people fly on the leg YVR-HKG. The taxi time at JFK was shorter than usual but not that short so it was about half an hour until we took off. The flight time was 4.55 hrs which was considered very short for the west bound (the head wind was not so bad).
Soon after took off, the supper was served. I asked if I can eat 2 servings since I was pretty hungry and the flight attendant was pleased to give me both choices of food. The steamed chicken with mushrooms was very tasty. I didn’t ask for alcoholic drinks this time since I had to drive right when I arrived.
I spent the rest of the flight sleeping and the drink was served right before landing. We arrived about 20 minutes before the schedule. Lots of flights from the US arrive at about the same time which was midnight. It took me total of 45 minutes after landing until I got to my car. The traffic down to Seattle was very good at these late night hours so it took me only 1.45 hrs to get to my house. No need to tell how fast I went hehe.
This was one of the best flights for me, a very good experience with Cathay Pacific. It was also my first time on B777-300ER. Compare to the other long-haul J product that I experienced (on JL, UA, AA, NW, KL) this was definitely the best. The economy class experience was also great (I feel it is the same level as SQ). The food choices were great, the seat was comfortable on both J and Y, and the flight attendants were very attentive. I would choose to fly economy on CX over other American carrier business class anytime.
