So here goes for the trek home.

Time to go home. However, things for the internet check in which opens 48 hours before departure did not go smoothly as you need to have a passport that is still valid for 6 months and dad’s was four days within this minimum period, so internet check in did not work for us, even going and trying to speak to someone at the airport did not help.

So we had to do it the old way. Worried about getting stuck in the middle seats we were up before dawn and at the airport very early, so early check in was not open yet and the hire car place was not open either.

We were one of the first to check in, thankfully the flight was not full so we got 57 H & J the middle seat was blocked so we had the block of three seats to ourselves.

Once check in was done the keys to the car were returned and it was into the cattle pen that security and immigration are.

Security and immigration was not a problem except for the long queues and minimal staff.

Boarding was orderly, helped by the flight not being full.

Wednesday 26 August 2009
MAN-SIN
Singapore Airlines
SQ 327
Boeing 777-212 9V-SVA
57J

Once onboard and settled, there was a short delay and we were away about 15 mins later.
Long takeoff run and soon climbed through a low cloudbase. Was a bit turbulent in the clouds.

First meal was either Tortellini Pasta with Spinach or Deep Fried Chicken with Rice. Both dad and I went for the chicken which was not bad.

After that we both tried to wriggle in to the most comfortable sleeping position, but all we could get was cat naps, so by the end of the flight we were absolutely knackered.

Apart from trying to sleep and playing with the IFE when sleep became impossible and being jostled by a bit of turbulence here and there, it was an uneventful flight until towards the end when the water ran out, so no one could have a cup of tea or drink of water. The crew said it was a technical fault, but when is simply using up the water a fault?

However, that did not stop breakfast from being served as by this time I was hungry.
Choices for breakfast was either a full English breakfast or an omelette, we both had the omelette and again was not bad.

The landing in Singapore was one of the smoothest I have had for a while.
Went to a gate in the new terminal 3. Once the transit hotel opened just before 8 AM we went and got a good sleep.

When we first got into the room both of us thought we would not sleep much, but both of us crashed for a good 5 1/2 to 6 hours.

Once we woke up. Dad left me in the airport and he ventured out into the heat and humidity of Singapore.
Did a good afternoon’s worth of spotting in terminal 2 before coming back to terminal 3 about 8 pm to have tea and await the homeward leg to Adelaide.

Here are a few of the aircraft I saw during the afternoon.

Thursday 27 August 2009
SIN-ADL
Singapore Airlines
SQ 269
Airbus A330-343 9V-STH
43J

About 10 30 PM went to the gate to await the flight.

Just after 11 PM boarding started, again this was not a full flight.
Since we were sat over the wing, every groan and rattle of the undercarriage and flaps was clearly heard.

Takeoff run was another long one.

First meal was either barbecued pork in sweet and sour sauce or roast chicken in mushroom sauce.
I had the pork and it was ok and dad had the chicken.

Again attempts were made at sleeping with little success. Thankfully between Adelaide and Singapore is only about 6 ½ hours, where as between Manchester and Singapore is 13 hours, so not sleeping much on this shorter flight was not as bad as the 13 hour one.

Breakfast consisted of a muffin, bread roll and water with tea and coffee as available.

Soon the flight was nearly over and the descent into Adelaide was started.

Landing was another smooth one. Since we were landing from the sea end of the runway and the terminal is at the city end, the pilot saw no need to slam on the brakes, so we rolled the full length of the runway.

While taxiing to the gate a few passengers thought it was ok to get up and get their bags out of the overhead bins, but they were soon told to sit down again. Why are people in such a hurry to get off?
So we just sat back for 10 minutes and let the crowd go.

Was not hard going through customs and immigration, through the nothing to declare line.

Got a taxi home and another well earned sleep.

On this trip Singapore Airlines was excellent and if you are going to be in an airport waiting for another flight, Singapore airport is one of the best I think.

So that wraps up another trip.
