Personal service on TO and BritAir´s F100 RAK-ORY-SXB

Marhaba again, dear readers,

now I will continue my inbound story

A Rough Landing In Marrakech On RAM (by FLIEGER67 Mar 9 2010 in Trip Reports)

with some city sights and the return flights.

It was Tuesday afternoon, when I´ve reached my hotel,
the Dellarosa in Marrakech.

It´s possible to walk downtown from there.
Some 20 minutes to go, to reach the
Koutoubia mosque
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001083.jpg
built in the 12th century, a masterpiece and example for lots of later built minaret´s.
Going for a closer look around
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001082.jpg
and the surroundings
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001081.jpg
Also the place in front off the mosque with its palm trees, real nice
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001084.jpg

And not far away is the "Djemaa el Fna", the "place of the hanged man"
one of the most mystic places in Morroco.
Nearly unbelievable for us middle Europeans
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001088.jpg
Thiefs, acrobats, story tellers, musicians all here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001086.jpg
Gnaoua musicians playing their instuments
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001087.jpg
and all in between driving cars, bikes and motorbikes
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001085.jpg
Back to the hotel in the evening, not that much action at the bar, so some sleep was warm welcomed.
On the way to my room
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001091.jpg
Warm and sunny weather welcomed me the following morning
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001090.jpg
but it was finally time to leave for the airport again.
Another smelly old Fiat shuttled me down there, ontime to do some pictures.
The ultra modern terminal building
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001093.jpg
RAK has a good number of flights to middle Europe, mainly loco traffic.

Paris-Orly

Service TO 3015 operated by Transavia France
Scheduled: 10.00 // 14.10
Actual: 10.30 // 14.05

My flight shows "enregistrement"
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001094.jpg
and also the arrival from Orly seems ontime
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001095.jpg
so time now to leave my bag.
Online-Check-In for flights from RAK wasn´t possible.
A friendly male agent was free for me and it seems always the same nowadays.
I´ve asked for window last row and received 29A, not the last row.
He accepted my bag and I was on the way trough security.
Well, I´ve vote for bodyscanners in any case, much better than here in RAK wehre all passengers
searched personal and that grumpy old police guy touched me, where I dont want to be touched.
No time to wait at passport control to receice my final stamp out of Morocco.
Up the stairs to the departure lounge with a first view on the apron.
It seems the same machines parked like yesterday
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001096.jpg
EZY to CDG shows some three hours delay, but it seems my flight goes ok
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001097.jpg
Some military action on the runway nice to follow
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001098.jpg
Performing double take offs
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001099.jpg
The palm tree surroundings
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001100.jpg
Another RAM machine on arrivals
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001101.jpg
and taxied in
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001102.jpg
Short thereafter followed by my machine
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001103.jpg
So it seems, at least
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001104.jpg
Turned and heading for my gate 01
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001105.jpg
Nice colours, from my point of view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001106.jpg
F-GZHD, the scheduled 737-800,
delivered at 21.04.2008 to TO, leg no. 45 for me ontype and a new registration
TO operates seven 737-800´s with two more upcoming for the summer season.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001107.jpg
Engines off and parked
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001108.jpg
Easy Swiss touching down in the background
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001109.jpg
And ground handlers prepared for service
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001110.jpg
Another angle to my plane
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001111.jpg
Boarding started finally self service above the apron with nice photo opportunities
during these sunny day with a temperature around 20 degrees
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001112.jpg
The machine good looking
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001113.jpg
And finally rear stairs boarding for me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001114.jpg
RAM departed again
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001115.jpg
I've boarded, as usual, as one of the last pax and chatted with the nice male FA while the others searching for their seats.
29B and C occupied, the last row empty.
"What about changing to the last row", was my question, he answered, "Wait a second".
He called his purser in the front and received the information that the complete last row was free for crew rest.
He offered me 31 A and blocked all the other seats with the seat belts.
So, we had less than ten open seats according to his information and I´ve had three, sorry, six for me again, real personal and superb service for me here on Transavia France.
And this all together for some 30.-- Euros, booked at TO´s homepage, not bad at all.
The cabin fitted with green blue fabric seats, legroom ok, but not that really clean
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001116.jpg
A last view to Marrakech Menara and the terminal
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001117.jpg
Before it was time to head to the runway entrance while a Thomas Cook machine arrived
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001118.jpg
And Easy Swiss departed short ahead to GVA
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001119.jpg
Departure was from runway 28 like arrivals yesterday for the 2 hours 45 minutes flight to ORY
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001120.jpg
Another cabin shot short after departure
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001121.jpg
while we climbed away from Morroco
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001122.jpg
A closer view to the safety card follows, as usual
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001123.jpg
The route was somewhat different, we´re heading more western
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001124.jpg
and leaving mainland Morocco above the sea
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001125.jpg
Some traffic southbound here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001126.jpg
Going above XRY, clouds along the whole way from southern spain, no more route or flightlevel informations
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001127.jpg
Cockpit crew was from France, with only a very short weather information during approach,
+ 3 degrees and some rain.
Service was BOB, nothing for free on TO.
Nothing to see till nearly touchdown on runway 06 also like yesterday.
Taxi along Terminal west with some AF subsidiaries
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001128.jpg
And further on to terminal sud
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001129.jpg
Airlinairs ATR´s and Aigle Azur at Terminal South
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001130.jpg
and finally the usual good bye foto with my seat
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001131.jpg
Some ten minutes at immigration, the french police officers seemed not that friendly to all that pax from the Maghreb states here.
Also bag delivery needs some more 15 minutes with a Tunisair service from TUN on the same belt.
Finally mine arrived and so I was on the way for the Orlyval station to change terminals again.

Paris-Orly

Service Air France AF 7310 operated by Brit Air
Scheduled: 17.20 // 18.20
Actual: 17.20 // 18.20

Orlyval delivered me without any hassles at Orly west.
A first view to the board shows me the earlier service to SXB as cancelled, not good, hopefully not a major problem there, sorry no pic this time, I was to slow here.
Looking for the self service kiosks, well, impossible don´t locate one and typing my flying blue number in.
As expected, no more windows, but one aisle in the back with the two seaters, 18C,
secured and printed.
That will be mostly a n ightflight, so acceptable.
Leaving my bag at the dedicated counter and time to go now, for a closer view around.
Btw. booking was done also via Exp.de, the fare around 50.-- Euros.
Well, AF at every corner, some IB/UX and Vueling, but more or less AF all around.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001132.jpg
A huge number of domestic departures in every corner of this huge country on the screen
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001133.jpg
And my plane´s nose in the lower right corner
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001135.jpg
F-GPXJ, the scheduled Fokker 100, delivered at 21.12.1990 to Lybian Arab Airlines,
further at 01.12.1993 to Transwede, heading for the US register with Midway Airlines at 10.07.1995, back to good old Europe registered in the UK for Gill Airways at 19.03.1999, further on at 30.05.2003 to EU Jet and since 11.04.2006 in service with Brit Air.
Brit Air operates 11 machines on type with F-GPXJ as the oldest example.
Leg no. 11 for me ontype and a new registration.
Lots of pax in this area, gate 10G for me and also a very small security control area, somewhat ancient airport design here.
But on the other hand side very comfortable leather seats.
Boarding started as announced with me as one of the last pax to check other seating options.
Much to my surprise 18A remained free, when I´ve walked down to the planes cabin end, so also here
two for me.
One male , one female in service, both together friendly.
The french captain also with a friendly welcome during boarding.
The load was finally at around 90%, lots of biz travellers on this flight.
The cabin fitted with dark grey comfortable leather seats, clean good legroom.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001146.jpg
It´s looking much more modern than the younger Contact F100 on behalf of LH flown some days ago.
A view on the safety card as usual
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001139.jpg
and the cabin ceiling
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001138.jpg
Breaking the AF colours, nearby Vueling heading for Valencia.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001136.jpg
Departure from runway 08, no route or flightlevel informations,
after another maghreb service on Air Algerie
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001137.jpg
Cruising above the clouds in the last daylight, nice with that red markers on the wings
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001140.jpg
and the engine close behind
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001141.jpg
Service was snacks and free drinks
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001143.jpg
and a last wing view prior to sundown
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001144.jpg
The captain informed us about the weather conditions during approach, wet and + 1 degrees.
Flight time was only 45 minutes. We landed finally on runway 23 like yesterdays departure.
With only one other plane at the apron, well known RAM
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001145.jpg
The captain was at the planes door during deboarding and wished me a good evening,
once more personal service here on AF and its subsidiaries.
Bye-bye Brit Air, see you again in a couple of weeks.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/MA1001/MA1001147.jpg
Finger deboarding and my bag was on the belt, when I was in the open baggage area.
Some two nightly hours on the motorway till I was back home again.

TO is recommendable, at least with that superb price earning ratio for my flight, real personal service there,
also AF/Brit Air was on schedule, friendly staff and once again personal service with the captain at the planes door during disembarking.

So, if nothing goes wrong, the next report will be titled
"Six circles around the Aetna".

42 legs to go now
and countries in order to visit:
Italy
Tunisia
Italy
France
Spain
Poland
France
Bosnia
UK
and Danmark.

Comments welcome

very nice second part with good pictures. Marrakech looks like an interesting destination.

Hi Markus,

Great pictures of Marrakech. And it seems that you have made a right choice to fly HV to ORY. It makes me want ot fly HV again sometime. It has been 8 years ago.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
that grumpy old police guy touched me, where I dont want to be touched.

How awful!

Lovely, an open viewing gallery! RAK must be a nice spotting place.

Somehow, the last row policy would not work for me. On my outbound VY flight to BCN, the whole last row was occupied.

Hi Markus,

Good to read your return trip, looks like it was pretty decent.

I like the look of the RAK terminal, at least from the outside, not sure why, looks kind of welcoming.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):

- I tend to get that @ AMS, it's alway a guy touchingme, I'm quite happy to get a pad down from one of the younger girls

The interior of your F100 flight looked much better than the one I took to CDG last year, seems the interiors of these used birds don't match.

Roll on the next segment

Cheers

Thank you and indeed it´s worth a visit.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 1):
The corridor doesn't look very attractive - how was the hotel in general?

Not that expensive, but lot´s of things non-fixed, for example it wasn´t possible to close the door to the open terrace, somewhat dirty and else.

Awful...

Absolutely.

Six seems enough, two new airlines included, if nothing goes wrong.

Great report - having recently visited RAK myself, I was really looking forward to your report and your impressions.

Hi Markus,

nice to read this report. First on Transavia France me thinks. Good to see the nice service you received. Seating design exactly same with the Dutch mainline Transavia.com, but the seatback top is round-shaped, where the PH-registered B737's are in usual 'block-shape'. I will check out the newer delivered B737's (PH-HSA/HSW/ZOM) when I get the chance. I have some more HV flights booked for this year, so we'll see...

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Well, I´ve vote for bodyscanners in any case, much better than here in RAK wehre all passengers searched personal and that grumpy old police guy touched me, where I dont want to be touched.

No way! Everytime I use them during work at AMS, I get the secondary bodycheck by hands. These machines don't work well yet.

But what about a nice securityguy Suryo

Brit Air is fine as well. Do I see a similar snack-bag as we get on LH domestic flights nowadays? Flying the F100 is fun, although they seem to have their problems right now. I won't be my first choice anymore to fly..., give me an Embraer 170/190 series everyday and I'll be fine with it.

Eric

Hi Markus,

Good conclusion on your quick trip to Morocco, although don't you get bored at flying the same route at both directions?   At least the route and the carrier were different ones.

And this all together for some 30.-- Euros, booked at TO´s homepage, not bad at all.

That's a bargain if ever. I've been looking for opportunities to fly the French and Danish variants of Transavia for a while now, but so far haven't come up with any solid plan.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
The cabin fitted with green blue fabric seats, legroom ok, but not that really clean

Nice to see they have the same interesting seat design than the Dutch parent company. I kinda like it.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
But on the other hand side very comfortable leather seats.

Looks nice.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
So, if nothing goes wrong, the next report will be titled
"Six circles around the Aetna".

Good luck, hope that the weather is nice and you get the same great approach as me in February!

Quoting ba319-131 (Reply 3):
I tend to get that @ AMS, it's alway a guy touchingme, I'm quite happy to get a pad down from one of the younger girls

Mark, you should travel to Sweden some day. In true Swedish equalitarian spirit they have no gender regulations on security screenings - on more occasions than one I've been "handled" by a girl. Some nice and hot, some a little less so. But at this age I'm just happy to get any attention from younger females!

Hi Flieger! Nice report. I flew on an AF F100 from CDG - STR in 2007 (par régional, not Brit Air though) which was used as a substitute for the regular A318. I was actually disappointed not to fly on the baby bus, but looking back at it, the Fokker is surely much less common than the Airbus, so good to have it logged...
The flight itself was very much like yours, friendly and pretty F/As in addition to a decent service (drinks, tuna sandwich).
Thanks for sharing.

Hey Markus,
Nice end to your Moroccan trip and this months Moroccan theme.

Transavia look good I would like to try them sometime although no routes near me sadly. Nice pics and the seats on Brit Air look nice.

Look forward to the Bosnian trip with lots of photos.

Hey, good to follow some more comments.

@Christoph:

Quoting Contact Air (Reply 5):
Great report - having recently visited RAK myself, I was really looking forward to your report and your impressions.

Thank you and you know, I like your pictures also. So, what´s next to compare?.

Quoting Contact Air (Reply 5):
Yes, I liked that as well - walking to the plane and taking pictures without any problems.

Especially with that nice weather at RAK

Quoting Contact Air (Reply 5):
Impressive - I like flying on planes that have a history.

Another 100% agreement.

@Eric:

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 6):
nice to read this report.

Thank you and hope to see something more HV from you´re point of view.

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 6):
No way! Everytime I use them during work at AMS, I get the secondary bodycheck by hands. These machines don't work well yet.

Both together, thats not nice.

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 6):
Brit Air is fine as well. Do I see a similar snack-bag as we get on LH domestic flights nowadays? Flying the F100 is fun, although they seem to have their problems right now. I won't be my first choice anymore to fly..., give me an Embraer 170/190 series everyday and I'll be fine with it.

I know, but some more F70/100´s here booked.

Great conclusion to this Morrocan adventure!

Thank you.

Quoting The777Man (Reply 7):
Transavia France looks nice except for the interior design......looks awful.......

It doesn´t looks like that usual airline stuff, thats really true.

Quoting The777Man (Reply 7):
Nice that you got to go on a F100 again!

Keep up the great work and look forward to your next trip!

Thank you and if nothing goes wrong that will be next week.
I remember you stated FRA these days, hopefully also something to follow for us.

@P.:

Quoting FlyingFinn76 (Reply 8):
Good conclusion on your quick trip to Morocco, although don't you get bored at flying the same route at both directions? At least the route and the carrier were different ones.

Thank you and bored about flying the same route up and down, not till now!.

Quoting FlyingFinn76 (Reply 8):
That's pretty good and friendly service. I guess it never hurts to ask.

True words.

Quoting FlyingFinn76 (Reply 8):

The danish variant sounds also interesting for me.

Hope so, the weather looks not that bad till now.

Ah, good to know, GOT on an MD80/B736 combination is in sight for late June.

Hello Markus! I have been very busy lately, and haven't been reading much TR's, but I see you definitely didn't cut down on flying! This really does make me want to fly the F100 myself! Nice to see HV France as well.

Keep up the good work,

Martijn

Hi Markus,

It seems 2010 is also becoming the year of the F100. Catch them whilst you can! The seats on Britair look nice and new and it seems that boarding last paid off as you got your window seat. It's quite unusual for you to use the same route on both legs, but great that you still managed to combine different airlines and aircraft.

Nice shot from your hotel of the early morning light.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Well, I´ve vote for bodyscanners in any case, much better than here in RAK wehre all passengers
searched personal and that grumpy old police guy touched me, where I dont want to be touched.

Poor you. Yet I feel it'll be sometime before they get bodyscanners in RAK!

Great that you got a row of seats to yourself on Transavia. If you don't ask, you don't get. Seats are a bit garish though. They could do with a bit of a makeover

Happy flying

The service you received was great! How nice of them to do that.

Good to see another F100. Nice to see a free snack on the flight.

Looking forward to seeing your next adventure!

Hi Markus,

Fantastic trip report again, well done. It's nice to see something else like Transavia France covered in a trip report.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
The cabin fitted with dark grey comfortable leather seats, clean good legroom.

I like those seats, looks like they are the same as in the Cityjet Avro RJ's.
