April 2007 Trip To Grand Cayman (no Pics)

Sun Mar 21, 2010 12:21 pm

Hi, I am new here so don't be hesitant to critize my work on this report. I am going to share with you my flights to and from Grand Cayman during our trip in April 2007.

Sunday April 15, 2007

Leave Providence, RI at 8:00am
Arrive Charlotte, NC at 9:58am

Aircraft: Boeing 757-200
Departure Gate: 6
Arrival Gate: D7

After leaving my house in Seekonk, MA at 5:00am, we arrived at T.F. Green Airport for our 8:00am flight to Charlotte, where we would connect to a US Airways flight to Grand Cayman. Being a Sunday, security was so and so. The TSA were their usual selves and I made it through with relative ease. Walking down to gate 6, we could see the flight was relatively full. Many of the passengers were connecting to other destinations. From the looks of it, they were connecting to cities in Florida and islands in the Caribbean. Taking off was a little bumpy as this was during that massive rainstorm that swept the Northeast in April 2007. Typically on flights, I would usually watch Gummi Bears on my Portable DVD player. On this flight, the episodes were "Rocking Chair Bear," "Patchwork Gummi," and "Tummi Trouble." After a 1 hour and 25 minute flight, we landed at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport a little before 9:30am with the weather being the same as Providence.

Leave Charlotte, NC at 11:15am
Arrive Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands at 2:00pm

Aircraft: Boeing 737-400
Departure Gate: B15
Arrival Gate: 4

Walking over to Concourse B, we made our way to Gate B15 where US Airways Flight 1123 was parked ready to take us to Grand Cayman. Unfortunately, it had arrived a little late from Pittsburgh and it had to go through a security check since it was an international flight. Due to this, we didn't end up boarding until almost 11:00am. Once we we on board, the weather had broken up a little so it should have made for a better takeoff. NOT! Once we were airborne, we hit an air pocket and thus, the aircraft sharply turned to the right. Our pilot managed to get the plane back on course and this caused me to lose the remote to my DVD player. The person in back of me gave the remote and I said thank you. The episodes of "Gummi Bears" on this flight were "Wings over Dunwyn," "A Recipe for Trouble/Gummi in a Strange Land," "Secret of the Juice," and "A Gummi in a Guilded Cage." After a 2 hour and 25 minute flight, we landed in sunny Grand Cayman with the weather being sunny and temperatures were in the mid 80's. Finally, we cleared immigration and customs and made our way to our hotel which was the Lacovia for a week of fun in the sun.

Leave Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands at 3:25pm
Arrive Charlotte, NC at 5:45pm

Aircraft: Boeing 737-400
Departure Gate: 4
Arrival Gate: D7

After a fun week in Grand Cayman, it was time to head back to the states. Arriving at Owen Roberts Airport, we went through the security checks and made our way to Gate 4 where many vacationers were eager to get back to the US. As we were boarding, I could see the extra security screening guys sitting out in the sun waiting to pick on some poor soul and go through his or her luggage. Luckly, I didn't go through that and my family and I ended up boarding our plane. On this flight, my Gummi Bears episodes were "Top Gum," "Ogre for a Day," and "Princess Problems/Bogging the Bears." After a 2 hour and 10 minute flight, we landed at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport and made our way to Immigration and Customs and were re-entered back into the United States. Now, re-entering the U.S. means we had to go through security again. During our rescreening my dad's bag had to be rumaged through because he had liquids in suitcase and thanks to what happened in August 2006, we had to carry them in plastic bags. Nevertheless, we got through and made it to Concourse D for our flight to Providence, RI.

Leave Charlotte, NC at 7:30pm
Arrive Providence, RI at 9:24pm

Aircraft: Boeing 757-200
Departure Gate: D13
Arrival Gate: 6

Walking to Concourse D, we got to gate D13 where our flight to Providence was sitting. Curiously, we were sitting next to a flight heading to London/Gatwick. Boarding our flight, we could see it had come from the Caribbean as it had originated in Turks and Cacos. Leaving a little after 7:30pm, we saw a gorgeous sunset over Downtown Charlotte and settled in for the 90 minute flight up the coast. On this flight, I watched the Gummi Bears episodes "Girls Knight Out/Guess Who's Gumming to Dinner." Arriving a little after 9:30, we deplaned and as we headed back to Seekonk, we reflected on a great trip and got ready to settle back into reality.
