on LynxAviation (L3)
I wanted to fly on LynxAviation before the airline goes out of business in September 2010, as the majority of us know already. I wanted to add L3 to my list of airlines flown on and also a new city, too. The only question was….where to go.
I chose BZN
. Why? No clue, to be honest. However, I have never been to Montana so I thought I would go up there and see what it’s like. It is no different from Colorado. BZN
sits on the west side of the Rocky Mountains and is also on the same time zone as DEN
This is the 2nd time I have flown on the Q400 with the first time on QX
(see trip report below.)
I listed myself for this trip the night before and also booked my hotel for an overnight as well.
I should say, since this trip is non-rev travel, the rules and dress code do apply….
On with the report…….

N504LX – Q400 (Mickey the Moose).
Since I worked the night before, I wanted to ensure that I had enough time to sleep before heading out. That is why I took the 1:10pm flight to BZN
. I checked in online frontierairlines.com and printed my boarding pass for the outbound. No need to report on how that went, although the computer did behave well without an attutude! LOL!
The next morning, I started packing my things and getting ready to go. I arrived at the airport a good 2 hours early. I wanted to stop by the pass bureau before flying out, did what I needed to do and went to my gate. The gate agent was a real beautiful looking girl by the name of Amber. She was very nice and very helpful and accommodated me because of my hearing impairment. She originally gave me an aisle seat, but I asked of there were any windows left over. She changed my seat assignment to a window. I thanked her for the seat change.
When boarding started, Amber made sure that I was around for the boarding process. She called me over and asked for my boarding pass and I was on my way out on the ramp….
When I got on the airplane, I thought my seat was 9F. I totally goofed up and sat in that seat when my seat was really 9A. I got stuck with a foggy window throughout the flight, so that is why the lack of pictures. The flight itself was somewhat bumpy, but not too bad. The flight attendants were ok, but tired looking. I slept through most of the flight due to the foggy window.

A beautiful green engine on this Q400 with its Dowty prop.
While I was sitting in the wrong seat, I snapped a pic of the cabin…
Sitting in my assigned seat, the legroom….
The foggy window….
After arriving in BZN
, I looked back and snapped a pic of Mickey…
Horizon Air, N415QX.
One of the things that amazed me about this airport was it’s appearance. I was blown away! It was very cabin-like, a home feeling. It was very, very nice!
The Rocky Mountains at BZN
Downstairs of the airport, a lot of wildlife “statues” or whatever this is called. It looks cool, by the way…
Outside of BZN
It was very windy outside. I attempted to take a shot of the Montana State flag. Not a good shot but….
At my hotel, this picture was hung over my bed. I like this picture a lot! I wanted to take this home. LOL!
I actually stayed in a town called Belgrade. Here it is…. Just right by I-90.
More Belgrade and mountains….
Here is the Holiday Inn Express I stayed in…
While in BZN
, I spotted a retro looking bus. This one is for Glid!
The view outside my hotel window, of Belgrade…again….
The one odd thing I have noticed about Belgrade is that there are a lot of mobile homes almost everywhere.

N506LX – Q400 (Bandit the Raccoon).
With the lack of sleep the night before, this flight departed at 10:45am. I went to sleep a little later than I wanted to; I got glued to the HBO mini-series special “The Pacific” on TV
. A great series to watch…. I recommend anyone who loves WW2 history….
I checked in for my flight and printed out my boarding pass at the hotel’s mini-business center and had the free breakfast. The free breakfast was nothing special but it was a good eat.
I had the hotel shuttle van take me to the airport at 8:30am to ensure time to get through security. To my amazement, the security was a breeze and no extra time was needed. So I had two hours to kill in a small waiting lobby. That was totally my mistake, leaving early. Live and learn for next time.
When I arrived at the BZN
airport, there was no one at the “Frontier” check-in counter. Thankfully, I checked in online. While waiting for two hours to kill, a nice LynxAviation employee (A supervisor, I believe. No uniform was worn by her) gave me my seat assignment. I got another aisle seat and kindly asked if there were windows left over, and I got 19F, the last row.
I boarded aircraft 506 at Gate A5 and sat in row 18 because row 19 had the bulkhead behind the seat and I did not know if the seat reclined or not. Unfortunately, someone was assigned to 18F which was fine. I took my seat in 19F. The seat did recline but it stayed reclined on take-off and landing. The seat recline button was stuck! I thought that was weird.
The unfortunate thing is about the return to DEN
that it was very turbulent. This aircraft does well in weather like that, I was impressed though.
Bandit at Gate A5
Sitting in the last row, you can see the exhaust duct. Note that BZN
is undergoing airport construction right next to Gate A5.
Shortly after take-off…..Bozeman, Montana.
Flying towards the Rocky Mountains….
Cabin of 506LX
Downtown Denver right under the green pylon….
We flew over DEN
. I don’t know why, but we did turn around and come back while descending….
The Front Range Airport, looking east while on final approach. This airport is very close by to DEN
Full flaps down on final…
Landed at DEN
with full flaps and spoilers….
Looking back at Bandit once last time before I head into the A Concourse.
This trip was a good one, but a boring one at the same time. I was not too impressed with Belgrade and should have rented a car, but I didn’t. I was basically bored to death, except for watching “The Pacific” on TV
in my room. I ate at Kara’s Family Restaurant. I highly recommend eating there. The food is very, very good! It is located right next to my hotel on Jackrabbit Lane. The weather was good, sunny while it was pounding rain and thunderstorms in DEN
. I arrived back into DEN
just in the nick of time for another storm to start pounding DEN
Thanks for reading. Feedback and comments are welcome, as usual!
