Manchester - Munich (Singapore Airlines)

Sun May 16, 2010 2:32 pm

Saturday 15th May
SQ327
MAN-MUC

I wanted to travel on the 777-300 so after having a new job for the last 3 weeks, I decided last week to book the flight.

It was quite empty in the back and I wanted to make use of flying the 777-300 by sitting as far back as I felt comfy away from the Lav's

Cost was £160 Return (1 week before)

Manchester Check-in is always hit and miss as to whether they really give a damn about you or not.

This time with Servisair, she did everything to protocol but not really wanting to chat at all really.

So off through departures and sometimes you get the body scanner, luckily I didn't, they seem to choose which you go in...
Here's the pics

After Landing early, we still didn't get on the Gate because a guy left his car obstructing the only Gate for a 777-300 and went off taking the keys with him, so that took about 15 minutes until they found the keys to move this car...surely you shouldn't do that in the first place...another woman said "welcome to manchester with reference to all the waiting   (We wait alot in England)

Return Video To come as I only just got back today and only just got all this up

Hi FCA767,

nice report - and what a coincidence: I flew MUC-MAN yesterday and MAN-MUC today on exactly the same planes! And I'm very glad that MAN wasn't closed earlier...after hearing the news about the new ash cloud yesterday in the evening I had been very concerned about today's service.

Quoting fca767 (Thread starter):

It's great to fly on a quite empty 77W, isn't it? The lavs can be an annoyance indeed, but believe me, the flushing noise was even louder on SQ's A380.

Quoting fca767 (Thread starter):
Cost was £160 Return (1 week before)

Not bad. I booked the flights in February for 127 Euro.

I cannot complain about the staff at MAN, but yes, the LH guys at MUC are really friendly.

Yes   I turned up thinking it was closed but I arrived a bit early about 4:10am for the 6:30 flight, but it was ok, It was only me and one other person flying Munich Manchester LOL  I had a nice chat at check-in with the girls

The sandwich on the MUC-MAN looks just like the sandwiches LH serves on their european flights, but with better presentation on SQ.

Yep! I thought they did SIN-MUC-MAN-MUC then slept, which wouldn't be good lol...so the other way is much nicer
I stayed at the holiday inn, get a great view of the planes Video to come which I will add to this thread

I´ve thought about a roundtrip MUC-MAN-MUC because it´s cheaper (130 EUR). MAN-MUC-MAN costs about 160 GBP

I wonder why SQ does not serve anything more substantial like English breakfast or Asian rice dish?

Thanks for sharing.

The egg, ham and cheese sandwich and the croissant sandwich with egg and iceberg lettuce are very filling. And you also get either a yoghurt or a fruit salad. It's absolutely sufficient IMO.

You also have to consider that most people on the MUC-MAN-MUC flights are long-haul passengers anyway - and those are fed well on the SIN-MUC-SIN runs.

Hi fca767 nice little TR about this short SQ sector. I had a ticket booked on this sector on 24th Apr in Business Class which I was looking forward to.....until that flaming ash cloud came and ruined it! Glad the service went well and that you were served some food despite a short sector.

Also how you managed to get up so early for the return sector I will never know..but congrats!

Aww! Last night I was watching BBC World News (Shame we can't get that in the UK) but they were talking about the Airspace closing Sunday, I thought o....ohhh! then thought well doesn't matter though it did lol, as I have a job now

Yeah! way too early, I just had a nap, think it was an hour just got back up
I thought 6am's were early lol

Thank you for the interesting report.

Since SQ started the service I am tempted to use it next time when visiting my parents in Munich. Just need to convince my wife to make the detour via MAN from London

Interesting to see the catering on the flight. I would have hoped that they provide something SQ specific – would be another argument to convince my wife
– but the sandwich on the return leg looks indeed like the horrible LH Europe Sandwich, just served on a tray.
I guess in-flight entertainment was high standard avod?

Actually maybe it’s worth burning some BMI miles for a Business oneway.

The main thing that is holding me back at the moment are the horrible timings. On the way out we would need to spend a night in Manchester and on the way back I would need to convince my dad to get up in the middle of the night to drop us off. The MUC departure is way too early for me, I always try to avoid those early departures.

But let’s see the lure of a SQ B773 is quite big.

Btw. I like the picture of your lunch.

The sandwich (MUC-MAN) and the croissant (MAN-MUC) tasted very good, much better than the stuff served on LH recently.

Yeah I don't think I'd do those timings again as it felt funny getting up so early...I still enjoyed it very much...and the Lufthansa kindness made me feel good  Smile

Although My Entertainment seems to be watching the clouds and trying to find close encounters   Actually going to munich, I saw a Thomas cook Whiz! Past about 1000 Feet above at about 36,000 feet, couldn't believe how close crossing from the right wing towards the tail, it came and went in about 5 seconds, you could see the logo and cockpit really easily, I wish I had time to turn on the camera and record it, I have a D90 Still cam with video, so I can't leave it recording for an hour say

Interesting flight.

I have done the old SIN MAN flight a couple of times on the old 777-200s. That flight would arrive in MAN about 6 AM and left 9-10 AM. What time does the new flight arrive and leave MAN.

Late response, but good trip report nonetheless. What was the loadfactor like? The flight didn't seem to be too well-booked, so I hope it will sustain for a while. It certainly is a good chance to fly a widebody aircraft without going longhaul with decent service altogether. I presume you liked MUC?   It definitely is a nice airport. Vinzenzmurr is my favorite whenever I'm in town.

Vinzenzmurr is my favorite whenever I'm in town.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Luftfahrer   It was very full on the way back, I think maybe it picks up the munich passengers once it arrives from Manchester...I loved the fact that you get all the drink and food and IFE, although most my time was staring out the window.
Munich City was nice too, I must try frankfurt of somewhere else aswell
