LH F: Lufthansa First Class A340 Munich To SFO

Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:18 pm

I took LH as part of my return journey from Zurich, Switzerland. My company paid for C, but I upgraded to F with my upgrade instruments. I flew from Zurich to MUC, then I connected from MUC to SFO.

I have flown UA F, and this definitely is the next level of first class service, no question. The people at LH take pride in their product. They really make sure that they provide outstanding service and a good experience in F. I was very pleased overall with the level of food, service, and comfort. This truly was an amazing experience.

The first class lounge in MUC was simply fantastic. It was just a great time. The food (which was all free) was just delicious. Easily as good as any top-notch restaurant, except for the dessert. There is no car transport to the plane in MUC as there is in FRA, unfortunately, but it was still fantastic.

The LH first class seat is just so comfortable. It was a wonderful way to fly. There is so much food that I could not finish it at all.

My trip report, as I am doing for all my TR's now, is in video format. The link is here:

Nice way to do a trip report ... thanks for sharing. The menu was incredible, honoring great German food ... looked very yummy! BTW, what type of caviar was it?

I have one criticism of the video...

It was too short!

First class report for a first class flight.

Nice video, and an interesting way to show us a tripreport.
btw, I have seen limousine cars in MUC also to pickup F passengers, but as I usually arrive on a remote position on the regional fleet LH might only do this service to keep the F class clientele away from the bus...

Another great video, sfflyer123!

Wow, I don't know how anyone has any room for the food on the plane when you go to a buffet like that! I was getting so hungry watching your video ..

Great captions as always! Love the views of the engines on takeoff from MUC.

Thanks for sharing! Where to next?

I must admit that I did not think I would like your TR because it is in video form. I was right. I didn't like it, I loved it. Very interesting from beginning to end. Wish it was me on that trip.

I, too, am hungry now! Even though some of the fare looks a bit......German for my taste.

Anyhow, yes, the 346 has bigger engines than the 343, but that's due to the 346 being a considerably heavier airplane. Couple that with the fact that the 343 is a bit of a dog off the line, and bigger engines were quite necessary.

The other technical thing I wanted to point out was your reference to the "takeoff lights" being on.
These are actually called Wing Illumination Lights (at least, that's what Boeing calls them... Airbus probably came up with a different moniker which means the same thing), and they're useful in flight for checking the leading edges and engine inlets for ice buildup.
Or, they simply could have neglected to turn them off!

Nice report.

Quoting allegro (Reply 1):

Thank you for the nice words. I am not sure what kind of caviar it was. I know that there are different kinds, but I am not enough of an afficionado to really know the difference. It was certainly luxurious though! I never have had caviar on an airplane!

Quoting Planemad1 (Reply 2):

Thank you for the nice words! I am glad that you enjoyed it!

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 3):

Interesting. One day, I want to try F in FRA. Have you tried the F experience at FRA?

Quoting 767747 (Reply 4):

Thank you very much for the nice words! I am trying to do one trip report per month, so I will do another one next month. It will be to Asia, but I'll keep the final destination until next month! Thanks.

Quoting CARST (Reply 5):

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I felt very lucky to have upgraded! I did not think I could get the upgrade, but fortunately, there was space! It was certainly a once in a lifetime experience!

Quoting caleb1 (Reply 6):

Thank you! You are too kind!

Quoting MH017 (Reply 7):

Thank you, MH017. I had a fun time on the trip and doing the video, also.

Quoting AA737-823 (Reply 8):

Thanks for that great information. Someone said that the lights were turned on for traffic. But the wing illumination lights are on to look for ice buildup? Interesting. Yes, the food is very german. It was definitely not "regular" American food. But I always like to try interesting foods. When I go to Asia, I eat the very Asian foods. When I am in Germany, I eat the sausages and drink their beer. Thanks for the comment!

sfflyer, thank you, I really enjoyed the video and it made me laugh out loud (especially the bit about the calories!) A very interesting food report, sorry I mean trip report. How did you ever get off the plane?

Thanks for the nice words. Yes, it really was like a serious food report, wasn't it? I literally could not finish the food, neither the goose, nor the semolina dumplings. It was just way too much. I paced myself with the alcohol, but I probably should have paced myself with the food also. But the best food that they made was the steak in the lounge. Just done to perfection and so tasty with those morels!.
