Hey All- I took a trip around the country, and non revved around and wound up in Chicago for the weekend. I was going to non rev home ORD-STL on United Express but ORD got some weather reports that I didn't like, and the flights were just full. I checked some airfares out of ORD to see if they would match Southwest out of MDW. I was staying at hotel right by ORD so I had to use ORD. I tend to book flights based on routes I have not flown or cities I have not been through. I have flown ORD-STL a lot on AA S80's, however it did offer me a 757 flight. I have been on enough 757's though. I then thought to check out Delta. They routed me for 10 dollars more than American, ORD-MEM-STL. DC-9-50 ORD-MEM and A319 MEM-STL. New airport-MEM, and two new routes. Not to mention I was Silver with Delta and checked the seat map and figured I'd get an upgrade to First Class making the 182 dollar walk up fare I booked look quite cheap. With that decided, I booked it, and enjoyed the rest of my weekend knowing I was confirmed home for once.
I then received an email the next day saying I was upgraded to F Class for ORD-MEM. Excellent!
Delta Air Lines
I took the shuttle to ORD from the hotel and got there early because check out was 12pm for the hotel, and my flight did not leave until 4:55pm. I figured I'd use the sky club, relax, log online and just enjoy the comfort of being confirmed for once.
I went to print my boarding pass, and walked through security. I went to use the Sky Priority Lane, but ironically, there was 8 people in front of me, and no one was in the normal security lane. Go figure, being Elite didn't help me for security this time! Ha!
I went through security, and went to grab a lunch. I went to Johnny's and paid 12.95 for food. Good Lord.
I went to the Sky Club at ORD for Delta and went in, paid my due ($25 dollars for those who hold a Delta Gold AMEX Card). I hung out in the club, went online chatted with folks. Spotted got some cool action watching the birds fly in and out. Grabbed a coke, and some biscoff cookies. (I am forever addicted to these).
I went to my gate when the DL DC9 was about to arrive so I could get it coming to the gate.

I snapped this shot to get a picture of a United Express plane in CO livery, and after taking the picture only realized it was actually Continental Express the whole time!
The gate agent announced boarding for First Class passengers, so I jumped in line, and walked through. Handed her my boarding pass, and walked down the jetbridge, got into the plane. Was greeted with a smile, and I sat down in 3D.
We were offered a pre-drink but I declined, I wasn't thirsty yet, and just wanted to watch the bags load into the plane.
I saw bags going to PHX, ECP and DAL, LAX as well. I like to self quiz myself to make sure I know my airport codes!
After everything loaded, I felt the thud of the doors closing and ramp clearing out.
We backed out, and taxied towards the runway for take off. On the way to runway I snapped a couple of pictures.
We taxied to the runway and sat quite a bit. I did take a video of this. Here is the video.
Delta DC-9 Taking Off at ORD
After we took off, we turned right to turn south for Memphis.
Continued climbing and flying past ORD
I settled back to relax, put on my IPOD. I love reading the Delta magazine so I always enjoy the articles they have in the monthly magazine. This month featured Eva Longoria, and I watch Desperate Housewives and she is my favorite actress. I was very excited to see an article about her in the magazine.
I noticed a sunset just barely starting to begin. I absolutely LOVE flying at sunset and night, and always try to time it whenever possible to try to get pictures. This was no exception and this looked nice.
Little bit TOO much sun but I liked it
Service had begun by then, so I requested a coke, and it came in a nice glass. I know coke is coke, but there is something about being able to drink it out of a glass on a flight. Just the nostalgic of it all. I was probably one of the fairly few young ones who actually remember the early 90's of flying, just before service had started to dwindle. So I treasure any moment like this, and I am fine with it.
The flight was fairly short, I believe just a bit over an hour soon, we started the approach for Memphis. We made a left turn.

Delta DC-9-50 Landing into Memphis, Tenn
We touched down and taxied off the runway. About a minute later the DL A330 from AMS came swooping down and roared past us as it slowed down. I thought that was wild and got a kick out of it. Wish I had been in position to get a picture of it.
We taxied to the gate and I got off and went to snap a picture of my DC9 at the gate.
I continued to catch my connecting flight, a Delta Airbus A319 flying MEM-STL. No pics from this one, but this was a good quick flight as well.
Again I enjoyed Delta, enjoyed my benefits as being Silver, had no complaints, this was my first time flying Silver, was very quick to get an upgrade to F Class, which was very nice. I know I won't be lucky all the time, but it is nice when I get it.
Thanks for anyone who read this and feel free to leave comments or questions. Check out my videos on the youtube account via the links I posted.
