I was able to check in for DL671 and print my boarding pass, but due to the long time on the ground in Atlanta I was unable to check in for DL1467 to San Diego, and when I called I was told I need to do this at the airport.
Since I had to get gas and return the car I planned for enough time for something to go wrong. At 4:00 am there is not much going on around the Cities, so getting gas goes quickly and I find my way back to the car return through construction that is going on in the parking ramp.
Because of the time, the check in located on the lower level was not open, so I had to go to the main ticketing hall. The lines were short and I was able to get right up to counter. It helps that Delta has added ticket counter space in the main hall. I told the agent that my final destination was San Diego and that I was unable to print my boarding pass and was told I could do it now. She had to leave the stand to do this, and when she came back she had my bag checked all the way to San Diego, but I still had to print my boarding pass in Atlanta. This was fine, as I did not have to deal with my bag.
After my bag was taken care of I proceeded to a short security line, where things went quickly and smoothly.
being a hub for Delta, there is not many RON aircraft at gates, most everything is at the maintenance area or at an out station. It appears the early morning bank is around 7:30 am. I headed to the observation deck to get a few pictures. The E concourse is full of RONs for US Airways, Continental and United, American and Frontier. American had a RON parked at F as well, which I had never seen. US had a RON at F and C. The RON at C has been the norm for some time, but the one at F is not.
I watched the flights from ANC
arrive before walking around some more. Despite having grown up in the Cities, I have never tried the home town coffee shop, Caribou Coffee since I didn’t drink the stuff at the time. Since there is only one Starbucks that I could find in the Lindbergh Terminal, why not give the home town place a try. I had to try the dark chocolate in the mocha, very good!
Of all the gates available for our 6:20 am flight, for whatever reason we are out of F5, one of the smaller gates on the F Concourse. It is the perfect size for a DC-9 or E175, but not a 738. The flight was not full, so it was not too bad. If it had been full though, it would have been interesting to see where everyone would have gone.
Boarding starts at 5:40 am using the automated system. With it being an early flight we are quick to board which means we are ready to go early. The door closes around 6:10 am and we push back a few minutes later. The engines spring to life and we taxi to 12R where we are number one and there is no need to stop.
On departure we fly to the southeast, flying parallel to the Mississippi until we pass over the Nodine VOR, just west of La Crosse, WI
screens are lowered and a few TV
shows are shown. The audio for the programing did not work, so I just listened to my music.
Service started not long after we were at cruise, where we were given the choice of Biscoff, peanuts or pretzels. I take Biscoff with a Coke.
The flight is smooth and uneventful. I have only done MSP
once, and it was 16 years ago on Northwest, took a 727 to ATL
and a DC-9-50 on the return. This has nothing to do with the current flight, just reminiscing.
The Atlanta based cabin crew was very friendly and present in the cabin through the entire flight. They offered water and coffee after the snack service and continued to walk the cabin to collect trash.
We land on 8R around 9:25 am and have a rather short taxi to A2.
A week after this was taken this DC-95 would be retired.

Arriving from LAX
Anyone know who’s -9 this used to be? I would guess NW
