Vienna By Austrian Airlines

Fri Jul 22, 2011 2:45 pm

Welcome to my third trip report here.
There are not so many pictures because I thought that route and OS wont be interesting. This year I already have 10 delayed LH flights and I am not impressed even I decided not to post my trip report from a.net meeting here because I really cant say anything good about LH flights to FRA except maybe the price. Mini blog in English can be found here. So I thought that OS flights would be the same as LH. Thankfully I was wrong -there is such big difference in small details comparing two carries that I decided to write this report.

16.07.2011/08:05-08:20
Sofia-Vienna 805 km
Load factor: ~95%
OS800 Boeing 737-600

At the gate there were bulgarian, english and austrian newspapers.

Tons of leg room. I can only compare it to BA Cityflyer.

When I was doing my online checking I was offered upgrade in C class for 100 euro. But there was no C class on this flight and I am wondering what would happened if I had chosen to pay for the upgrade.

Great muffin and one of the best teas that I had in economy so far. Served with smile.

Washington flight

I planed to spend all weekend in museums so first stop was Museum of Fine Arts. Thanks to my OS boarding pass I payed only 6 euro for the ticket.

Rembrandt

I have enough time for some city walk before my back flight

Intersky - in my ToDo list

My favorite tea.
17.07.2011/15:38-17:58
Vienna-Sofia 805 km
Load factor: ~95%
OS797 Airbus 320

Nice seats. Although the seats are same as LH legroom is better then on LH

Classical music for welcome

Fokker

Specialy for FLIEGER67

Emirates

Easyjet

And again Bulgarian newspapers plus two magazines. Nice touch.

DO&CO

Central Train Station

Gerena stadium

Alitalia

My ride

On time

Things like good food and tea on board, IFE, welcome music, foreign press, two in-flight magazines(both very interesting), "Most valuable boarding pass" program, leg room are more than enough to absolutely agree with Austrian airlines moto "We fly for your smile". I can't wait my next flight with Austrian airlines in September.

Next trip report: Inaugural flight Plovdiv-Bergamo

Hi eco,

good to see you have already posted a report about your trip to VIE! Well done!

Did you visit the Hotel Sacher?

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
When I was doing my online checking I was offered upgrade in C class for 100 euro.

OS would have offered more food and probably more drinks and an empty seat next to you in C Class. But I guess I wouldn't have paid that either considering that it's only a short flight.

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
Thanks to my OS boarding pass I payed only 6 euro for the ticket.

Interesting. What's the regular price?

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
Nice seats. Although the seats are same as LH legroom is better then on LH

I didn't know that OS has introduced the same seats. But it's hard to believe that OS offers more pitch.

DO&CO

And how was the "Gugelhupf"?

Hello eco,

a nice short story, liked the pictures, too.

It seems you had good flights on OS. You were lucky to get 736, not so easy to catch one. Was it your first time on the subtype?

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
Nice seats.

Are they comfortable? As for the look, much improvement over the old greenish one.

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
Next trip report: Inaugural flight Plovdiv-Bergamo

Looking forward for that one.

Regards,
SPLTA

Zdravei eco,

Really nice TR. Already looking forward to your next one of PDV-BGY.

OS seems to offer a very nice product. Despite the fact that I used to fly between the Balkans and Western Europe all the time I never happened to fly with them. Maybe next time I fly to/from SOF I should give them a try.

The stroopwafels (I assume that's what they are) you had with your tea at VIE are one of my all-time favorite treat. When I lived in North Wales, I used to get fresh ones from the bakery practically every second day.

Thanks!

Hi, A.,

Hi PlaneHunter. Thank you.
No I didn't have enough time. I spend all weekend in museums.

I am pretty curious what would happened if I had paid this upgrade because there weren't enough empty seats to put me on separate row in C Class.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 1):
Interesting. What's the regular price?

Regular price is 12 euros. All advantages of OS boarding pass are described here

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 1):
I didn't know that OS has introduced the same seats. But it's hard to believe that OS offers more pitch.

OS introduced them few months ago there was even game which first prize was this seat.
You should try them and specially their Boing 737-600. Maybe reason for such pitch is because this plane is ex Lauda air.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 1):
And how was the "Gugelhupf"?

Gugelhupf is very good but muffin was even better.

HI SPLTA. I am glad that you like my mini trip report.
This was my first flight on 736 and this season it is regular guest in SOF.

Quoting SPLTA (Reply 2):

This was 4th or 5th flight on plane equipped with such seats and they are absolute fine for me. Maybe if you try to put laptop and book in the pocket of that seat they may not fit,

Good reporting. Why do these small European countries even keep their name? It is owned by Germany now.

I would like to read your trip report about OS if you decide to travel with them. As I can remember from your trip reports in Balkans you use airports(SOF and SKG) that OS serve.

I love stroopwafels

Hi, eco!

good to read your OS experience. You know, I've mixed feeling about them, even in C ( Austrian Airlines To IST? A Bad Experience In C! (by airbuseric Dec 5 2010 in Trip Reports) ).

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
This year I already have 10 delayed LH flights and I am not impressed

How come? I never have these troubles on LH and I rate them, therefore, very high and punctual in general.

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
When I was doing my online checking I was offered upgrade in C class for 100 euro. But there was no C class on this flight and I am wondering what would happened if I had chosen to pay for the upgrade.

I guess in front of that curtain on your flight was a different catering and drinkservice. Seats on OS are same as in economy, but the middle seat remains empty for your comfort. Plus, C-class would give lounge access at least, and use priority check-in, security fast lane etc.

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
Easyjet

Will start up a route from VIE-AMS soon, finally more competition here.

Quoting eco (Thread starter):
Next trip report: Inaugural flight Plovdiv-Bergamo

So, this is on FR maybe? Looking forward to read it!

I saw that catering in from of that curtain (curtain remain opened during the flight /it was closed on my back flight) was the same - muffins and the middle seats were occupied. I am sure that on that flight there was no C class at all. That's why I am curious what would happened if I had paid this upgrade because there weren't enough empty seats to put me on separate row in C Class.

Thanks for this nice short report. Your pics are very good quality!

Hey, almost any route & carrier is interesting to us

Indeed, although they belong to the same group, they each have their own details.

I like the branding on the seat cover.

Nice report eco! Glad you enjoyed OS more than I did in 2005 from BRU to VIE and back. Very mediocre service on that flight.
Next trip report: Well worn A330s and Hassle free MUC transfer
