OK, so this is like 2 years old and the pics have just been sitting in a file ready for me to write this trip report, so I guess I'll go ahead and do it. Once I get this done there are a few other really good ones I should write. We'll see if I accomplish that or not.
I was in SJU
for business, and my co-workers flew standby SJU
and ended up in middle seats for that rather long flight. I went SJU JFK DFW
with a 6 hour layover in JFK
, and got first class the whole way, and so I'll let you be the judge of who got the better deal!
It was an early morning, as I was going to catch the first flight to JFK
. I was at the Courtyard Isla Verde I think.
Another view of the morning.
No, my plane wasn't climbing out yet, my camera was tilted. This was the only shot I could get of it due to the duty free shops & etc.
When I got to the gate, I was happy to learn that I was upgraded to a first class (technically business class on this flight) window seat. Here's my view.
Not much going on in SJU
Now over the water, and we remained over the water until landing!
There's Long Island in the distance. That was the next land that I saw. I remember sleeping most of that flight and I didn't get a pic of the breakfast, but I'm sure it was fabulous.
gate 40. I do love AA
And we have arrived.
Jet Airways is one of the other airlines that use Terminal 8. Air Berlin, Qatar, and Finnair also use it, and eventually BA
will move there.
I had 6 hours between flights, so I was off to Manhattan for lunch and to see the Intrepid Museum!
Mind the gap! (American style)
Using the Air Train and then LIRR takes about 45 minutes to get to Manhattan and costs like $10, so it's not bad.
And it drops you off here!
The sights, sounds, and smells of New York!
Approaching the Intrepid
Here's the fastest Transatlantic Vessel sitting on top of the slowest Transatlantic Vessel
Here are a bunch of pics I took on the Intrepid.
So I eventually had to head back to JFK
to get home to DFW
. Remember, the point of this layover was just to get me from San Juan to DFW
, after all!
Here I am at the Oasis Lounge in Terminal 4. Look at all the Delta.
I used to see PIA at IAH
all the time
Inside Terminal 4 (this is still landslide and not behind security.. though that will change soon)
Not sure why the Shamrock isn't green.. camera issues I suppose.
I really do love JFK
plane spotting. It's so international.
See the KLM J-class stuff in the China cabinet?
Free food in the Oasis!
I love Milano cookies!
A self-serve bar
back to some more planes...
A good lineup today at T7
... on my way to T8
's Air Berlin check-in
Non Rev lounge, where I went to check on my flight home
... so for the flight home. I boarded and had seat 28F. It was my first time on a re-configured TATL 757, so I was curious to see what they had done with the plane in both J and Y.
You can already see the updated wall panel with the AA
Eagle and the updated A/V.
Business Class looked nice. Definitely on-par with the 777 and 763 at first impression. Look.. I don't see anyone in 4F!
Headrests in coach on a 757! No TV
's hanging down in the aisle either!
Plenty of room to add seat back TVs if they wanted to. I thought the lack of tray tables at the exit row looked weird (they are in the armrest)
Flip-down TVs showing a soothing, calm boarding video
, so I was sitting in 28F, minding my own business, and an AAgent came up to me and said, "Are you Mr. B?" I said yes. He said, "We have a new seat assignment for you if you can collect your belongings now. You are in seat 4F"
I was like... no way! That never happens!
My seat 4F! Much better than the 763 J class already, and actually slightly more updated than the 777 J seats!
Eagle! (Sorry, I had to!)
Time for dinner
And dessert. You can see how the tray tables have useful shelves and whatnot. There's also a cubby hole to put your shoes in between the seats.
Listening to classical as I read a book
Sort of an overview of the seating area
I think I waited until my seat mate was asleep before I went crazy with pics! But this gives an idea of how the seats work.
The Texas border!
So, usually I have a bit more commentary in my trip reports, but this was has been delayed for 2-3 years, so I don't remember the details. However, I hope you enjoyed all the pics!
Comments are always welcome.
