Emirates Airlines EK085 Boeing 777-300ER DXB-ZRH

Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:49 pm

Hi there!

Time for my first trip report here on airliners.net. I was doing report movies on youtube for a while and was always reading reports here on A.net. My last trip was 2 weeks vacation in the UAE. I flew Emirates from Zurich to Dubai and back in economy. Both times our plane was a Boeing 777-300ER, one of my favorites.

I will also show you the link to the Youtube Trip Report:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnscRM5YzHg

I edited the DXB-ZRH report video first so I will start at the end of our Dubai Trip.

A must see in Dubai is of course the Burj Khalifa Observation Deck, which is located on the 124th floor. Here are some views from the tallest building in the world. Here you go:

So after having spent 4 days in Dubai, which is way to few, it was time to leave Dubai. My vacation was over and my plane was waiting for me. Transfer from hotel (the palace the old town) was organized by the hotel. They sent us a very nice car, it was an Audi Q7. They also provided water and refreshment towels inside the car! Very nice service!

The flight wasn't really well booked, I had almost a whole row for myself. Like 9 seats  http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/3528/dsc05409qv.jpg

This is the awesome widescreen on EK, unfortunately not all planes of emirates have got the new entertainment system. On the ZRH-DXB leg I got the old screens with the old AVOD. But still ok.

Very delicious meal, and my first time on EK that they have still both choices available! Never happend before, on my previous flights they always had only one choice left. I would have hit the roof if they hadn't both choices with a payload like that!

This would be a good choice for an ultra long haul flight, do you see that awesome legroom? During my flight I switched around the plane and tried out some seats. Empty flights are very very comfortable!

So this is the end of my very first report on A.net. Hope I gave you a good impression of emirates and myself as a reporter. I now it can be better, but I can still improve.

I really enjoyed that flight with Emirates, the lower the payload is the better is the service on EK! Everything was alright and this was the best flight I had so far. Unfortunately a little on the short side but still one flight to remember. For more impressions watch my video trip report!

Best regards,

Hi amandeuce,

nice first report! I hope you will stay on board. Actually I prefer to see pictures rather than videos in reports here, but tastes are different.

Yes, it is. I took similar pictures when I went there in March:

Even the pre-widescreen system is still superior to most other airlines' systems.

Good report; I flew with EK about 2-3 weeks ago, from LGW to DXB and back; I flew out on the first flight (0945 departure), which was supposed to be a 772, but turned out to be 'EMP (a 773) - I wasn't complaining. Great service and IFE on both flights, but I was a little disappointed with the catering on the way back (it was the early morning flight, leaving DXB at 02.50). Still, my main worry about that flight was punctuality, because I had a tight (2h) connection at LGW; thankfully it all went very well.

I note that almost all EK flights between Europe and Dubai follow roughly the same route, i.e. up the Gulf, then Iraq and then across NE Syria and across Turkey and the Black Sea to Romania, etc etc. Now, with UAE carriers having to stop flights to Syria, I wonder if this will affect overflights as well; probably not a massive deviation, but I'd expect that they (and QR, which is also to stop DAM flights) will also be avoiding Syrian airspace?

Hi amandeuce,

I've always enjoyed your videos on Youtube. Great ones I must reiterate! Nice that you wrote a TR on your EK experience and thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures of Dubai. Its truly a magnificient city.

Excellent videos in HD and I encourage anyone who haven't view them to check them out!

I am starting to love the B773ER too (used to be a staunch B744 fan).

Wow, I wasn't aware that not all B773ERs are equipped with the new entertainment system! But the 'old' one looks great and more than adequate nonetheless.

Quoting amandeuce (Thread starter):

It happened to me on my EK flight as well. I guess it must be a norm kind of thing.

Anyway, a neat TR to start your career in A.net! Keep up the good work and keep your videos coming!

Cheers,
RvXKaz

NICE TR; The 777-300ER is a magnificent flying machine. I checked out your vid on youtube and I like how you didn't include a bunch of narration like some TR videos. Greetings from Michigan

In actual fact, only a small fraction of these flights enter Syrian airspace, and only then for a short 20nm leg of a southbound airway through the very northeastern tip of Syria. It's so short that the requirement to contact Damascus ACC has been removed (you could never raise them on VHF anyway!) and Ankara remains the active ACC until contacting Baghdad at the Damascus/Baghdad boundary.

99% of flights cross directly between the Baghdad UIR and Ankara UIR via waypoints KABAN (northbound) and NINVA (southbound).

Great first report with some good photos. I would love to fly on a flight that empty; it certainly looks like the way to travel.

I look forward to your next report!

Kev.

Hi PlaneHunter

I'm sorry for not replying to you! I'll give my best in the near future and since I'm new here I do not know all the common customs yet. I really appreciate tipps of any kind. And of course, I will stay on board.

I focused mainly on recording my trips, but from now on I try to make more pictures so that I'll have more to show to A.netters.

Thank you for your comment!

Well the old entertainment is still better than on most carriers   , but I was a bit disappointed when I checked the services on my flight and I saw that I gonna get the widescreens and it turned out to be the old screens.

I really don't know how they calculate their food supplies. If your flight is full, I assume most of the passengers don't see more than 1 option for food

Happy new year!

Great report with nice pics! Love your TR.

I'm going to fly EK BKK to CPH then CDG to BKK with their world wide sale fare!
Gonna be my first Arab carrier flights to Europe after all those non-stop on THAI and European carries.
I want to try their afternoon EUR-bound as I think most are empty due to arrival time in Europe.
But CPH has only 1 morning flight with long layover in DXB too

Do you know what kind of TV they put on the refitted 772? Is it the newest version like your 777-300ER?

Anyhow, many thanks for the great EK report.
