A Short Hop: LHR-MAN On BA

Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:38 pm

Hej alle! (Hello everyone!)

I shall continue my journey (final destination:CPH) here. For those who have missed out the first leg of the journey, feel free to read it - Malaysian Hospitality 602 & 4 (SIN-KUL-LHR) (by moosecamel88 Nov 15 2011 in Trip Reports).

The initial plan was to spend a few days in London before making my way up north to Manchester. However, when I heard about the riots breaking out across England, I thought it would be much safer to cancel this plan and to fly to MAN from LHR.

This is my 7th trip report and my 1st on British Airways.

My British Airways Experience

Introduction

The last time I flew BA (SIN-LHR-BCN) was 3 years ago and I was pretty much impressed with their inflight service, although it was still nowhere near Asian or Middle-Eastern carriers. Nonetheless, I was excited as this was going to be my first domestic flight in the UK. Since I was taking the first flight out of LHR to MAN, I decided to spend the night at the airport.

I was very impressed with LHR T5!

Close up shot of the self check-in machines and baggage drop.

My boarding pass.

As I was still exhausted from the previous day's journey, I didn't do much exploring at the airside. Instead, I sat myself down comfortably and watched the world go by.

Inflight

Flight: BA1384
Route: LHR-MAN
Scheduled Departure: 0745
Scheduled Arrival: 0840
Aircraft:A320

Upon entering the plane, I was greeted by a cheerful cabin crew. As I made my way down the aisle, I was once again greeted by the rest of the crew. I thought to myself, "Hmmm, a very friendly and enthusiastic crew indeed!"

I settled down into my seat and started snapping away. haha!

More than enough room for me!

Waiting patiently for pushback.

Our flight route for today.

Up in the sky!

I'll never get sick of this view!

Inflight service commenced once we were airborne. I was glad to know that BA doesn't charge passengers for food and drinks on board their flights! I was impressed with the crew as they attended to passengers with genuine smiles. Now, that's something airlines should work on.

We were offered a light snack (sandwiches) which I didn't help myself to as I was fasting.

And right after that, my camera battery went flat!  Now, tt's the worst thing that can happen when you travel! grrrr! The remaining time was pretty much uneventful. I just spent my time staring out of the window!   And very soon, we landed in MAN.

I made my way to my aunt's place in Darwen. Here are some pictures of the area near her house.

Someone was a little curious

Nice trip report - glad you enjoyed your flight with my favourite airline!

This is a well travelled route for me and I find the crews are often friendly and do their job well (I've had one or two bad crews however). But nice TR! Shame the battery went flat! I hate it when that happens!

Nice little TR, just like the flight, short and sweet!

But why no pics of Darwen Tower with the top blown off?
Next flights: Nothing

Hello hello Mus!

Glad to see yet another installation of your awesome experience as an exchange student! haha. Again, lovely TR and very nice reading! And I must reiterate, beautiful photos as always! And as you know, I've always been fascinated with BA so I loved reading your perspectives and insights into BA's domestic flights! Kudos on a really neat TR!

I'd be too if I were you! Sweet accomplishment during your exchange!

LoL! You'll have to start a list of airports you have spent the night in! Was Heathrow comfortable?

Loved that BA makes a great first impression, even on such a short sector! First impressions are always lasting!

Me too! The British countryside looks really beautiful from up above!

Very nice!

Quite surprised that sandwiches are offered on such a short flight! It seems like domestic service is compatible to intra-European services from the TRs I have read here.

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):
And right after that, my camera battery went flat!

Oh no! That's every photographer's nightmare! But you've had some great shots and oh well, the experience is all that matters!
Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):
Here are some pictures of the area near her house.

Tell your aunt she lives in countryside paradise! Looks so tranquil and I can almost smell the fresh breeze! Stunning photos!

Again, I absolutely love your style of presentation, enhanced by the beautifully-taken photos! Thanks for this really delightful insight into BA domestic!

Looking forward to the rest of your adventures through Europe!

Cheers,
RvXKaz

Hi Mustafa,

Pretty nice bite-size (hey, that rhymes!) report of this short hop. I love your personal style in writing these reports, a selection of good clear pics and some explanations, very good! I hope further you have a nice time as an exchange student and enjoy travelling around Europe.

Yes, BA tries hard to be a full service airline

Hi there,

nice short report of a short flight! I'm sure many a.netters have flown it, but you were lucky in the food offerings were a sandwich - I only received a pack of the famous "birdseed" with my drink last time I flew it  Heathrow And UK Domestics - LHR-MAN-NWI (by Signol Dec 4 2009 in Trip Reports)

Hi plamejamie,
Thank you for stopping by to read my TR!

That's good to hear! A friendly crew is what every passenger needs!

Hi groobster,

HAHA! It was blown off? I didn't go to the tower because i was too tired but I've been up there a couple of times and was nearly blown away by the wind cause I was just a small-sized 10 year old then :p

Cheers,
mus

Hey RvXKaZ!
It's nice to see you here again! Many thanks for reading my TR!

Quoting RvXKaz (Reply 3):
LoL! You'll have to start a list of airports you have spent the night in! Was Heathrow comfortable?

That's a good idea! It was quite cold for me because my body had yet to adjust to the weather (I doubt the heating was on cause it was probably considered 'warm'). But I managed to find a good spot to sleep at one far end of the terminal where no one disturbed me.
Quoting RvXKaz (Reply 3):

Yeah! I was expecting just nuts from BA.

Quoting RvXKaz (Reply 3):

I guess that's one reason why she decided to migrate there. It was funny because I was with my friend (who arrived on SQ the same morning) and I told him that the scenery around my aunt's house was so-so. When he saw it he went, 'DUDE, OK is an understatement!" haha!

Quoting RvXKaz (Reply 3):

I'm glad you like the presentation because sometimes I feel that it's too simple.

Enjoy your holidays!

I've a couple more reports to write - EI, FR, LX... But I'm most excited for the one on SQ back to SIN, though I've yet to fly it! :p

I'm glad you enjoy reading my reports!   Yes, life as an exchange student is awesome! but not so now because the exams are just around the corner!

Hey Mark!

Quoting ba319-131 (Reply 8):

Don't let the picture trick you! I'm only 1.65m so there's definitely A LOT of room! :p That's one reason why I don't really like taking pictures of legroom because my comments will all be similar - 'ample legroom' haha!

Cheers,
mus

Hey signol!

Ic, I was actually expecting that considering it was a very short hop. Nonetheless, I was glad that BA offered something better this time round!
