MEXICO CITY (MMMX) TO
Aeromexico Operated by Aeromexico Connect (SLI
December 17, 2011
Flight time: 1hr 40min
Check in was done the day before on a computer(since they have mobile boarding now) via Aeromexico´s website, the service was very efficient, and in a couple of minutes we got our seats assigned and where with our boarding passes printed.
Aeromexico is the main carrier at México's City flagship Terminal 2, built only a couple of years ago, it is still the most modern terminal building in México and in latin america, Aeromexico and Aeromexico connect operate of all their flights in Mexico city out of this terminal, making it the airlines main hub. giving it an operating advantage over other carriers which operate out of the old and crappy terminal 1..
we took a cab to Terminal 2 and in an early saturday morning they where barely any cars around so we got their quite fast, we immediately headed to Aeromexico´s web-Checkin dedicated counters, which i highly recomend, it only takes you to 5 minutes to drop your bags, on previous Aeromexico Flights they asked for our printed ticket and gave us another one in the counter since they didnt have the e-readers at all gates, but now that they just installed them you can do either mobile check in or with your paper home printed boarding pass (as in any other airline)
we went into security wich at terminal 2 is a breeze, got our id and boarding pass checked, and in less than 5 minutes we cleared the security filter. as we still had almost an our to loose we wandered arround terminal 2. There is a lot of shops and places to eat, it has a quite large duty free area for international travel, much larger than most us airports, but quite small compared to heathrow.
when we where 30 minutes away from our scheduled departure time we headed to gate 73 in the international finger at terminal 2, wich goes from gates 64 to 75d.
the waiting area at the gate:
Arround 15 minutes prior to our scheduled departure time (10:20am), we where called for boarding, giving priority to Section 1 passengers which on todays flight where Premier Class Passengers, handicapped persons, Club Premier Gold and Platinum, and passengers holding the Aeromexico Premier Credit Card.
heading from the gate to the jetway:
view from the aircraft, sorry for the quality i took all of the pics with my iPhone, and i took this where a HSBC banner was and they where little holes on it.
upon entering the aircraft we where received by an Aeromexico Connect Flight attendant with quite a fake smile.
here it is seat 17A.
the view from our seat:

we began pushback and we where soon close to departure.
here is a pic of the new aeromexico hangar being built:

Arround 25 minutes after our departure, we where set at our cruising altitude of 38,000 feet. the flight attendants began the in flight service wich consisted in some cracker peanuts, and a soda, juice, beer, or a alcoholic beverage (vodka, tequila and rum). As always with any Aeromexico flights, the flight attendants where only doing their job and didn't bother to smile(they should really work on the flight attendants attitude, aeromexico´s service is quite good but their flight attendants are some of the least friendly ones arround).
the inflight service, peanuts, a drink and my iPad (with Steve Jobs Bio) for inflight entretainment:

The video of the aproach and landing into mazatlan
After a very nice landing at runway 25 by Captain “Armando Loyola” and First Officer “Omar García” we taxied for a couple of minutes until we stopped at Mazatlan´s international airport. we disembarked on a gate 7, which is jetway equipped
the corridor on our way to baggage claim:
Baggage claim area and the FIDS:
The FIDS showing some interesting arrivals, i really want to travel on one of those AeroCalafia flights. maybe on a near future.
The arrivals area after baggage claim, here Aeromexico Gran Plan Personnel greeted us and arranged a shuttle to take us to the Crown Plaza Mazatlan Hotel.
The main view of the airport:
Aeromexico offers a pretty good service on international flights, i had a great experience with them flying to bogota last summer, and to Houston last year. Although i hadn't had the chance to fly with Aeromexico Connect before, and hadn't actually flown their domestic services in a couple of years, and i was quite disappointed with the service, i didn't expect anything else than some peanuts and a soda on such a short flight, but the attitude was what really disappointed me, the crew members where only polite enough that was not considered rude, but had a really bad attitude during the entire flight. For an airline that charged double cost fares than Volaris i expected a better service, and it was not.
Mazatlan is a Beautiful destination with lots of things to do, if you ever get the chance you are going to love it, it is also full of retired Americans and Canadians, with GREAT FOOD, and also a great Sinaloan hospitality, you cant leave Mazatlan without visiting the restaurant "Cuchupetas" (it is really close to the airport, quite far from downtown Mazatlan actually).[Edited 2012-01-04 21:17:00]
