"A Great Way To Fly" MXP-SIN

Tue Mar 20, 2012 4:30 pm

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my 9th TR and my 1st on SQ.

My Singapore Airlines Experience

Background

After spending a semester in Denmark, it was finally time to fly back home   . As I had booked myself a one way ticket into Europe, I had the freedom to choose the city of departure. Milan was my obvious choice as I had made plans to visit my relative who is currently living there. There is a long list of airlines that I can choose from, but being a student, I had to go with the cheapest. It was a pleasant surprise when I found out that SQ had the lowest fare (EUR550) considering I was flying back on new year's eve! What made it even sweeter was that it was going to be my first time flying long-haul on SQ.

Introduction

Upon arrival at MXP, I went straight to the check-in area. However, since there was a long queue for economy, I decided to wait a while longer for the queue to shorten.

Apparently, I did quite a bit of shopping during my stay in Europe!

Check-in agents were all smiles. What a great way to start my journey back home!

My mom loves Gucci but since I cannot afford to buy her some bags now, I snap pictures of Cucci stores whenever I see any while travelling abroad! So, here's one more Gucci store pic to add to her collection!

My boarding pass.

I can't wait to get back to Singapore!

Inflight

Flight:SQ 367
Route: MXP-SIN
ETD:1100
ETA:0555
Aircraft:773ER

"Good morning Sir, welcome abroad! May I see your boarding pass please?"

As I was one of the last few passengers to board the plane, i was personally ushered to my seat by a steward. Good customer service or was he just trying to get me to my seat asap? hmm..

55K.

Headrest cover.

Christmas decorations.

r

Seat pitch was more than sufficient!

Goodbye Milan!

As usual, I was snapping away as soon as I settled down. Unfortunately, my seatmates (a Singaporean couple) found me weird and questioned my actions. I told them about a.net but they seemed uninterested. I tried making small talks with them during the next few minutes but they weren't interested in chatting. Oh well! I just ignored them for the rest of the flight. Anyway, they probably found me really annoying as I kept going to the toilet throughout the flight. haha!

Hot towels were distributed. That's something most airlines are doing away with in economy.

Very soon, we were off the ground!

Cabin service started as soon as we reached cruising altitude. We were offered nuts and drinks to go along with.

Menu in Economy class for us to keep. yay!

KrisWorld is great but the view out of the window was greater!

Flying over Bosnia.

Some flight info in Italian.

My pre-ordered meal.

I tried hard not to compare the quality and quantity of food with EK's but I just couldn't resist the temptation to do so

Amenity kit consisted of socks, eye shades, toothbrush and toothpaste.

There were many hydration rounds conducted by the cabin crew throughout the flight. I couldn't keep track of how many times I drank juices and water!

I didn't sleep much and all I did was snack. This was one of the many snacks I had. haha!

Breakfast tasted better than lunch.

Service on SQ is top-notch! Even in economy class, passengers are treated well by the cabin crew. Personal requests were granted without any hesitation. I really like how the crew made small talks with us passengers while serving our meals. I noticed how SQ takes turbulence seriously, even when there is a minor turbulence. All in all, I am satisfied having flown with probably the best airline in the industry!

A final look at all my bags! haha!

Hi Mustafa,

another nice report with very good pictures! SQ's product looks great as usual - I just don't like its airshow variant.

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):
It was a pleasant surprise when I found out that SQ had the lowest fare (EUR550) considering I was flying back on new year's eve!

That's not bad at all.

Very odd - first they ask you about your actions and then they don't care about your words.

Does SQ have the option for advanced seat selection? Considering you got a window seat while being the last few, to check in you should consider yourself lucky!!

Well you explained what you were doing, and would continue to do for the rest of the flight. If they decided to not talk to you, your gain really!

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):
Some flight info in Italian

I guess you had the option to change to English too. Were there any cabin crew announcements in Italian, as in Italian language speakers on board?

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):

So what is your verdict? The food presentation on SQ does look good.

Hmm, were you making all these bathroom visits to get to the snacks at the back of the plane LOL! Just kidding. Or do they actually come around serving these, but if they did, I doubt very much if they would have done it twice.

The cabin crew on MH are really more warmer and friendlier, if that is what one wishes in cabin crew really. SQ while not always robotic, they can come across as very by the book.

Hi Mus,

Another fine trip report.

That's a lovely pose by the check-in staff.

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):
Even in economy class, passengers are treated well by the cabin crew.

With a friendly welcome aboard and being personally ushered to your seat. But even when there are more passengers crowding on the crew are always on hand to assist.

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):
Seat pitch was more than sufficient!

And I notice that they still have footrests - something other airlines have removed to save on weight.

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):
KrisWorld is great but the view out of the window was greater!

You just can't get better than this.

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):

Some airlines may claim to be better but SQ is still "a great way to fly".

Best wishes,

Hi Mustafa!

Nice report from you with nice pictures!

Great to see that you had a great flight with SQ and good to know that they were very proactive with drink runs. Thai is the same in that regard.

IFE on SQ is good but slightly better on EK. Which carrier do you prefer ?

Looking forward to your next report!

Yes, tt's true! So far I've not experienced any rude ones.

I totally agree!

Hello flightsimboy,
Thank you for dropping by and commenting on my TR.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 3):
Does SQ have the option for advanced seat selection? Considering you got a window seat while being the last few, to check in you should consider yourself lucky!!

Yes, I pre-selected my seat during the booking process.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 3):
I guess you had the option to change to English too. Were there any cabin crew announcements in Italian, as in Italian language speakers on board?

The flight info on the PTV showed both in English and Italian language. None of the cabin crew were Italian but there were pre-recorded announcement in Italian being played, especially during turbulence.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 3):

So what is your verdict? The food presentation on SQ does look good.

It tasted alright. I've tasted better airline food though.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 3):
Hmm, were you making all these bathroom visits to get to the snacks at the back of the plane LOL! Just kidding. Or do they actually come around serving these, but if they did, I doubt very much if they would have done it twice.

HAHA! Fortunately, the snacks came to me!
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 3):
The cabin crew on MH are really more warmer and friendlier, if that is what one wishes in cabin crew really. SQ while not always robotic, they can come across as very by the book.

I second that opinion!

That's what you call service!
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 5):

That's true! It helps to rest your feet on the footrest for better seating posture, especially for long flights.

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 5):
You just can't get better than this.

And that's one reason why I love flying!

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 5):

I'm going to be bias here because I'm Singaporean. haha! But yes, SQ will always be 'a great way to fly'.

It's nice feeling completely hydrated during long flights!

Somehow, I prefer EK's IFE.

Hi moosecamel88,

Thanks for this report. As I will be flying ZRH-SIN with SQ very soon it was of special interest.

Quoting moosecamel88 (Thread starter):
tried hard not to compare the quality and quantity of food with EK's but I just couldn't resist the temptation to do so

So EK's food is better? I thought your meals looked decent enough, seem to be quite substantial portions. Good to hear that there were plenty of drink runs and snacks to help yourself to.

Just out of interest, did you have tp pay for excess baggage? Are SQ quite strict about it? I don't see how I'm going to manage to stick to 20kgs on my next trip......

Happy flying

COOL! Will you be coming to Singapore or just transiting through?
Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):

Here's how the meal looked like when I flew on EK 2 yrs ago.

Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):

Fortunately I don't cause I managed to get extra baggage allowance.

Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):

You can call up SQ office and request for additional baggage allowance.
