Aloha Hawaii: CDG-LAX-HNL-LAX-CDG (AF/DL): Part 1

Thu Jun 14, 2012 3:50 pm

This Trip Report is dedicated to my dear Mum who sadly died from leukemia last April. I really enjoyed flying with her...

Last October/November, my wife and I spent a wonderful honey moon in LA and in Hawaii.

First flight:
I was so excited as it was the first time I was going to fly on a 77W!!!
AF 777s have now a bad reputation here due to the 3-4-3 seating in Y, so I was happy to fly in Premium Voyageur...

CDG-LAX:
FLIGHT AF066
Dep schedule: 10.30 am--Actual: 12.30
Arrival: 2.10 pm-----Actual: 4.00 pm
Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER
Reg: F-GSQL
Seat: 20K/20L PREMIUM VOYAGEUR
Flight duration: only 10hours and 40 minutes

It was during the famous AF strike, we were so afraid the flight would be cancelled... Finally, it was OK, but we departed 2 hours late...

Views of our a/c:

Then, it was high time to board...

Then, we finally took off, this was very powerful

IFE, quite good IMO:

A view in the Y cabin:

Service during this flight was horrible: due to the strike, there were only 8 F/As in the a/c instead of 15, usually.
The flight was rather uneventful, some light turbulence while over Canada, but that was it.
The Premium Voyageur class is of course more comfortable than Y, and I didn't find the seats too hard.

Now, a few pics I took in LA:

All in all, it was a very nice stay in LA: many people dislike the city, but I found it GREAT.
Concerning my AF flight, it was average as there was no service during the flight. A shame their 777s are not equipped with mood lights though
But now, it was time to go to Hawaii!!!!!! See PART 2

Thanks for posting, interesting there were only 8 FA's rather than the usual 15, I'm surprised they flew that that few crew, seems to few to me from a legal crewing put of view.

You say there was no service, what, nothing at all?

Tks

Apparently, 8 was the minimum for a full 77W in AF config.
There was a service, but it was the minimum. They served the drinks at the same time as the meal, and the meal was a cold meal so that the F/As didn't have to reheat the meals.

Bonjour,

Interesting to have feedback about inflight during a cabin crew strike. Thanks.

FYI, (I'm not sure if it is DGAC or AF rules but) the plane can operate as long as there is one cabin crew for each pair of doors. Since there are 5 pairs of doors on the 77W, the minimum is really 5 ! However you then have to take the requirement of 1 cabin crew per 50 passengers, which would actually make it possible to have 250 passengers on board. So with 8 cabin crew, it was actually a little bit more than the bare minimum.
Bonjour Chef!
