“Welcome on board,” Senior Flight Attendant Ida, wearing a nice gold colored stole in commemoration of MZ
’s fifty years of service, greeted us at the door with Onjoli Mudra
Lovely gesture and even more by a sweet “Good Morning” from Flight Attendant Annesa with her Onjoli Mudra
. The gold colored stole decorated her as well.
“What is your seat number, Sir?”
“Five C and D,”
Row 5 turned out to be an emergency exit row...
Which was greatly appreciated.
Neighbor view. Note the distance between Mr. 5A’s knees and 4A seatback
Forward cabin view. Note regular overhead lockers
Due to the wing position, our overhead lockers were rather smallish for our carryon. Shame on me, I just hid one luggage under 4D
which quite rightly could not be ignored by eagle eyed Annesa.
“Shall I put your luggage in the overhead locker? Because you are seated on emergency exit row,” She suggested while opening our overhead locker.
“I did try it. Our luggage would not fit,”
A frown on Annesa’s face as she directed our luggage at the locker, said enough.
“I just put your luggage above row two. Is that alright?”
“No problem,” I replied while wondering why I did not come up with it myself.
Once the door was closed, Annesa returned for safety briefing. First in Indonesian to Mr. 5A
and me, then in English to Herman.
“If you have any more question, do not hesitate to contact us. Alternatively, you can consult the safety card,”

‘Please do not remove from aircraft’
I would not, but could not resist removing…
Even more irresistible was the Pratt & Whitney Canada twins’ serenade as our princess sashayed towards runway 29.
Making U-turn. Note evacuation direction
Just before 09.35, noise interestingly subsided. But soon after, the twins spooled up as our princess slid graciously up runway 11.

Surrounded by thin cloud layers while heading northwest…

Before banking to the right and ascending to cruising altitude of 17,000 feet above sea level. Too bad, it became overcast.
As soon as fasten seat belt signs were extinguished, snack box distribution was started from the back.
Tray tables of exit row seats were stored inside the armrest. What do you think of the size?
My tray table
“Here you are,” Smiling Ida passed on two snack boxes.

A fluffy bun with savory minced meat filling and a slice of spongy, not overly sweet chocolate cake, all washed down with refreshing mineral water. Great stimulation of your taste buds in the late morning hours.
I postponed my visit to the lavatory as Ida and Annesa reappeared for in-flight shopping sales.
Inflight shop catalogue
Boy, I was excited when I came across…
MZ branded baseball cap and T-shirt
And quickly filled out…
Inflight sales request coupon
Sadly, only to find out…
“I am so sorry. We have ran out both of them,” Ida was apologetic after digging into her trolley in vain.
Anyway, I still had to attend to nature call.
Clean my hands…
And wipe off the washbasin as a courtesy to my fellow passengers before getting ready for a social event.
Meeting Ida and Annesa
Apparently, our crew members were on duty for twelve hour, flying Jakarta – Bandung – Semarang – Sampit – Semarang – Bandung – Jakarta.
“It is a long day for us. But, we are fine,” Ida said.
I believed Ida. Also when she told me that MA60 was her favorite to work on in comparison to Fokker 27.
With her fifteen years of service, Ida made a right combination with energetic Annesa who just joined MZ
for two months. Both were equally friendly and hospitable.
“It was nice talking to you. Thank you,” I excused myself.
The sky was clearing up as I returned to my seat.
Village of Krengseng on the left next to wooded area
Village of Rejosari, just under the engine
I got excited! Our princess followed in tracks of PlaneHunter
Village of Kartikajaya on the green strip surrounded by wetlands
But soon enough, I realized that our flight was about to come to an end. Fasten seat belt signs were illuminated as our princess slightly banked to the right for approach position along the coastline.
“We will be descending in five minutes. Please put your seat in the upright position, fold your tray table and fasten your seatbelts,”
My hometown airport was near.

Touchdown past 10.25
Brakes were barely necessary for our landing on 2,680 meter runway.
Can you imagine that the runway used to measure 1,650 meters when I attended the elementary school? That memory, more childhood memories with my rather protective mother, memory of Ma Ingrid flashed through my mind as our princess pulled into parking position 2.
“Welcome to Semarang,”
Touching farewell of Ida and Annesa in their Onjoli Mudra
waved me away as sultry atmosphere embraced me outside.
The feeling once I breathed the smell of jet fuel. Rencang-rencang
, I was home!
