This is my first attempt at a trip report, I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed reading everyone else's during my time as a lurker.
One of my madder ideas (though not that mad by the standards of A.net) was a day trip to Glasgow.
The reasoning behind this trip was that I wanted to see a special friend of mine, but as I wasn't sure of her availability (she was just starting a new job and wasn't sure she could get the time off), I figured if the worst came to worst then I could occupy myself in Glasgow for a day with little fuss and without having to worry about hotel bills. Then an email landed in my mailbox announcing an Easyjet sale, so I tallied up my Nectar points and booked a day return for points plus the grand sum of £13 return.
A 4am alarm and quick shower, breakfast and email check and I was ready to leave by 5am. I'm not looking forward to next months Amsterdam trip which will be an even earlier start!
The drive up was pretty uneventful apart from the idiot behind on the A38 who was driving like he was late for his flight. For once I managed to find a spot in the long stay maze fairly quickly and as the weather was nice I walked to the terminal.
Having checked in online and not having any hold baggage I went straight up to the friendly security check. Then it was through the obligatory duty free funnel to a fairly busy departure lounge. I didn't have long to wait before the flight was called at gate 4 (which happened to be right in front of where I was lurking), unfortunately for the gate staff there wasn't the usual EZY queue barriers so she had to call Speedy Boarders forward. I was one of the first non Speedy to go through the doors and straight onto the bus with all those that had paid for Speedy Boarding. All they got that morning was the pick of seats on the airside bus to the remote stand!
The bus pulled up by G-EZFB, which was the same aircraft as my last flight back from Berlin in May.
07:05 – 08:20

I was welcomed aboard by the crew and took my window seat, initially the middle seat remained free, but a few minutes later a second bus arrived from the terminal and it seemed that all seats were eventually filled.

We started on stand and taxied to runway 09 (my first departure that way). After take off we flew over the city of Bristol before turning Northwest towards Brecon. Shortly after crossing the Severn the cloud cover increased, but there were occasional gaps particularly around Manchester.
About halfway through the flight the cockpit announced a cruise of flight level 280.
Things were cloudy for much of the descent, we broke through just south of the city as we manoeuvred for a runway 05 approach

Touchdown was smooth and we taxied in to the usual Easyjet stands in the orange shed. A short walk through the terminal and I was at the bus stop for the expensive “Glasgow Shuttle” bus to the city centre to meet my friend at the Buchanan bus station.

After saying my goodbyes I caught the Shuttle back to the airport. After picking up some food in the landside Tesco, I headed up the escalators to security. Something I don't understand is why they need LCD monitors playing a 5 second loop telling you to hold the hand rail or use the lifts if you have heavy items.
Surely a sign would be better!
There were was a long line at security as only one scanner was staffed, apparently this was down to a staff shortage. After clearing the line, I headed through the maze like duty free and found a seat with a good view of the apron.
Just after the delayed EK A343 landed (I forgot to get a photo) my flight was called and in a few minutes I arrived at the orange shed where my flight was leaving from gate 10. Unfortunately the public address wasn't working very well so the gate ladies ended up shouting, first for Speedy Boarders and then for everyone else.
21:30 – 22:35
(8th flight on the A32x, 6th on the A319, 1st on G-EZIU, 22nd Flight overall)
Boarding was completed quickly and we pushed back about 15 minutes early. Again the flight was well loaded and I recognised a few people from the outbound flight that morning.

After some good views of the Clyde estuary and the eastern part of the city we climbed through the cloud as darkness started to fall.
During the cruise the cockpit announced that the weather at Bristol wasn't good with strong winds and heavy rain.
The approach to runway 09 was bumpy but the touchdown was very smooth. During the taxi in the lead stewardess made the usual announcement but then added that the crew were Bristol based. I can't help but wonder if this was a dig at Thomson's bent 767 (though it probably wasn't).
We pulled up at one of the remote stands on the Eastern apron where the buses were waiting to take us back to the terminal like islands in a lake of standing water. Strangely while domestic arrivals bypass the passport control queue, I still had to pass through the customs channels despite having never left the UK!
Rather then walk through the rain to the car I decided to wait for the bus back to the car park. Not that it made much difference as I was still drenched running from the bus to the car! Typical British Summer!
I finally arrived home at about 1am and headed straight to bed!
(The temp sensor on the car is loose and makes contact with the radiator - it was certainly not 30C!)
