Some time ago, fellow A.netter Daniel told me about a meeting of him with Planehunter to do some spotting around Munich airport.
By that time I didnt know if my schedule would be free on that weekend, so I forgot about that meeting again.
Lets fastforward now a couple of months to a rainy evening, when I'm sitting in front of the computer chatting with Daniel, where he told me again about the meeting.
After checking again my calender, it was clear that I was free on that weekend and the fares on Lufthansa were still quite acceptable, so I told my brother about the trip, who wanted to join as well.
So we quickly logged onto the Lufthansa site and quickly booked a very simple Frankfurt-Munich-Frankfurt.
We were quite excited about the trip, as my brother recently got *G and therefore we could finally check out the Senator lounges in Frankfurt as well as in Munich.
Please also note, that this report is done together with my brother, so some pictures and expressions are credited to him.
After quite an early start and a quick drive to Frankfurt, thanks to the unlimited Autobahn, we arrive there at about 6 AM.
The terminal was still pretty empty in most parts, as the holiday traffic usually departs even earlier, all between 4 AM and 5 AM.
Check in was already done at home and we had seats together with Daniel and Robert. ( we were all on the same flight to MUC which was quite a lot of fun! )
As we didnt print out our boarding passes at home, my brother decided to check out the First Class check in area.
There was no queue at all, but the check in agent was quite surprised to see us using the FC area, as we are still both quite young and not wearing the usual dress of all the suits, who normally use this area.
The spanish lady wasn't friendly at all, and kept talking to her collegues during printing us our Bps.
Not First Class like at all and next time we will for sure use the Self Service check in again, as that machine at least writes „ Have a pleasant flight“ in the end of the check in procedure.
By that time the security checkpoint at the A-gates got quite crowded, so we decided to try the freshly renovated Fast lane, where we got through in a rush.
Airside, we first checked the offer in the stores, before heading to the SEN Lounge A26.
This lounge was really small and totally crowded. In the end we got the last two seats.
After having a quick breakfast there, we started our longer walk over to the B gates, as the lounge there is a lot bigger and we still had plenty of time left.
The famous tunnel
About 10mins later we already arrived there and settled down for a proper breakfast. The views in that lounge were also quite good.
Very cool seating area
While sitting there, we saw Dr. Markus Merk, one of the most famous german soccer referees.
Anyway the time was over quite quick and we walked back to our gate, where we met up with Daniel and Robert.
Some 10mins later the boarding started and we were among the first to board the plane.
Boarding was soon finished and the load was only about 60-70% so plenty of space to spread out.
The flight itself was unspectecular, just your normal, good LH experience.
LH logo: classy!
Service on that short flight was a chocolate bar and a drink.
Way too soon our descent into Munich started and shortly after we touched down on the Erdinger Moos.
After deboarding, Robert, Daniel, my brother and I quickly made our way to the arrivals part of the airport as we were there scheduled to meet Planehunter himself.
As another airliner, Marc, was also attending the meeting, but landing an hour or so later then the rest of us, we first went up to the viewing platform of the Terminal, where we had quite a good overview of the apron of Terminal 2.
Soon enough, we saw the mighty Singapore Airlines 777-300ER, just landed from MAN, taxing by with Marc in it.
So we went down to the Arrivals again to meet Marc there.
After that we went to the world famous AIRBRÄU all together. That is the worlds only airport brewery and one has to say that their brew is quite decent.
We enjoyed our lunch there, combined with a lot of aviation talk of course!
After the very good meal, we went to the Besucherpark with the S-Bahn, where PH was so kind to drive us around with his new 777 with the powerful TFSI90 Engines under the wings
Thanks a lot again for that!
The platform there at the visitors centre was also very good as one had an overview on both runways and the Terminals.
We spent there a lot of quality spotting time.
Old planes in the visitorpark[i/]
After some time, the others decided to move to a spot closer to the runway in order to catch the Emirates A380 there, but my brother and I went back to Terminal 2 to have a proper look around there, before heading airside again to check out the lounges in MUC.
[i]FC check in
The terminal wasnt crowded at all at that time of the day and in no time we were airside again and made our way to the 1st Schengen SEN lounge, which looked a bit outdated IMO.
After staying there a bit, we decided to move on to the non schengen lounge, where something interesting happened.
The lounge dragon there was quite rude and wanted to move us back to the Schengen lounge, but the most interesting was, that she tried to sell us that Aegean Star Gold members are not allowed to bring any guest to the lounge. What a lie!! In the end she let us in, but that behavior is just unacceptable, especially with the fact, that the lounge was mostly empty.
The lounge itself was nice, but with the lack of natural light, it felt a bit crumped and not airy.
Hendricks Tonic with cucumber, perfect!
After again some good time there, we moved back to the Schengen Area, where we first had a good look around the offers in the stores, before checking out the last SEN lounge, where we were welcomed in very friendy, hear that Non-Schengen lounge dragon?!
Anyway soon boarding time was coming nearer and we went to the gate, where we had to wait a bit before boarding started.
Boarding was finished again very quick and we taxied to the runway, where we had an excellent view of the evening longhauls out of MUC.
The flight was just a normal domestic flight and in no time we were starting our decent into Frankfurt again, where we touched down after a flighttime of only 35 minutes.
Luckily we were bussed back to the terminal as the mood on the tarmac was magical with the sunset and the flashlights everywhere.
After again some 80mins on the motorway, we arrived home after a very enjoyable day.
The flights with LH were as standard as they could be, but they still offer a decent service on these very short flights and manage to serve every passenger, even on a full A321.
The SEN lounges were all nice, but the B gates lounge in Frankfurt was by far the best as it was a lot more stylish and also the largest of all we went to today.
Finally a big thank you to Robert, Daniel, Marc and PH for meeting us today and the great time around MUC, it was a blast! Also again, special thanks to PH for shuttling all of us around!
If you have any comments or questions, feel free to ask!
Thanks a lot for reading.
