Emirates A380 Suites & Thai B773ER Suites

Wed Oct 31, 2012 11:42 am

I am yet to embark on another business trip and this is going to be a longer than usual trip as I have back to back events in Cologne and then in Abu Dhabi. Going to be a pretty tiring trip, but yet pretty interesting for an A.Nutter like me because it gives me the opportunity to get creative with my schedule and fly more than 1 airline. So please enjoy the TR. As usual, I will not write up on the short hops to KUL from CGK, but I will still post some pics and let them do the talking.

Date: 20 Sep 2012
Route: Jakarta (CGK) - Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
Flight: Malaysia Airlines MH712
ETD: 0940
ETA: 1240
Seat: 1A (Golden Club / Business Class)
Aircraft: B737-800
Flight time: 1hr 40mins
Registration: 9M-MXD
1st Flight: 25 Feb 2011

Date: 20 Sep 2012
Route: Kuala Lumpur (KUL) - Bangkok (BKK)
Flight: Thai Airways TG418
ETD: 2055
ETA: 2200
Seat: 2A (Royal Silk Class)
Aircraft: B777-300ER
Flight time: 1hr 50mins
Registration: HS-TKH
1st Flight: 20 May 2007

As I have flown this route so many times, I usually don't write about it, however this time its different as TG will be using their brand new B773ER with all new J seats. As I wasn't feeling too well when I arrived into KL in the morning, I just had lunch with my friend before resting at his house before its time to get back to the airport. Check in took a little longer than expected due to the fact that a LH flight from KUL-BKK was cancelled; hence passengers were being transferred to my TG flight. After formalities were completed, I just spent my time before boarding between the TG Royal Silk Lounge and the smoking room.

When I got o the gate it was a bit of an anti climax as when I saw the rego of TKH, I immediately knew that this is the leased B773ET from 9W, which meant my seat 2A is the First class seat, but because F is not sold on this leg and the flight is overbooked, they are also using the F cabin for Platinum then Gold card holders from J so that some Y passengers can be bumped up and put on this flight to BKK.

Date: 21 Sep 2012
Route: Bangkok (BKK) - Paris (CDG)
Flight: Thai Airways TG930

Seat: 1K (Royal First Class)
Aircraft: B777-300ER
Flight time: 11hrs 10mins

1st Flight: 20 May 2007

After arrival into BKK, its straight the Royal First Lounge. Had a mice body massage the spa. By the time I was done, I only had time to have 1 cigarette in the lounge before my valet took me to the gate.
Same aircraft that brought me in from KUL is taking me to CDG. Flight is relatively full in all classes. Nice to see familiar crew faces in the F cabin again.
Yet more pics of the cabin of this same bird that took me in from KUl and now taking me to CDG
PJ’s and sadly now no more Rimowa Amenity kit, but also another brand I love, Tumi
waiting for the cargo hold to be closed and we will be off shortly
Meal time
Right after meals were served, its off to bed as I wasn’t feeling to well as I was in the midst of a food poisoning bout. When I awoke, breakfast was getting ready to be served.

Stayed at the new W Hotel in Paris, and as it was located at the same place as the Apple Store, and being iPhone 5 launch day, this was what greeted me next to the hotel lobby.

Flight: Private
ETD: 1550
ETA: 1641

Arrived early at LBG so that I could spend time at the aerospace museum there.

And now for all of us aviation buffs, please enjoy the pics of the Aerospace Museum at LeBourget
Whilst in the outdoor viewing area, I also managed to catch a glimpse of a Saudi Royal Family BBJ across the tarmac about to depart
And back to the museum again

After about 1.5hrs, my chauffeur dropped me off at the Signature Flight FBO.
D-CVVV taking me to Cologne
15min later we are up in the air off to Cologne.
Being an aviation nut, most of my time was spend up front with the pilots. Before I knew it we were already on finals into Cologne.
Terra firma and goodbye D-CVVV

Date: 27 Sep 2012
Route: Frankfurt (FRA) - Dubai (DXB)
Flight: Emirates EK48
ETD: 2220
ETA: 0640+1
Seat: 1K (First Class)
Aircraft: B777-300
Flight time: 5hrs 40mins
Registration: A6-EMS
1st Flight: 14 Jun 2002

After 4 days of conference, its time for me to fly to Dubai for another meeting. Left the Hyatt Hotel in Cologne and took the train to FRA. Journey itself too slightly less than an hour.
Top speed on the ICE train for this leg
Arrived at the airport with almost 4hrs to spare. I could take the later train but since some of my colleagues were leaving on a TG flight that departs 1.5hrs before my EK flight, I decided to go together with them. I good part of 40min was spent checking in and completing all my tax refund. After which I headed back to T1 to have dinner with my colleagues whom were flying out on SQ and TG. After dinner we chatted over a few cigarettes curbside before parting ways.
After completing formalities I just spent the rest of my time in the Emirates Lounge till boarding was called.

F on this 10-year-old 777-300 is in a 2-2-2 layout, although a far cry from the suites, it is still very comfortable.

Only 2 rows of F onboard this B773.

I love EK’s snack basket, 2 goodies I always eat are the Pringles and Mars bar
Meal time
Service was cheerful and attentive throughout. One thing I do like about emirates is the snack basket and mini bar at your seat. Although I got some sleep, and it was indeed comfortable, the timing was a little off as due to the pretty short flight time, and being a red-eye, somehow I woke up feeling pretty lethargic, and the scenes I got on final descent, pollution and the Burg Khalifa

Date: 02 Oct 2012
Route: Dubai (DXB) - Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
Flight: Emirates EK346
ETD: 0355
ETA: 1455
Seat: 1A (First Class)
Aircraft: A380-800
Flight time: 6hrs 40mins
Registration: A6- EDK
1st Flight: 14 Oct 2010

After a few days in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the Emirates First Class limo picked me up at 1.20am to take me to the airport. After arrival, check in, immigration and security took no less than 10mins to complete, which is really rare t this time of the morning.
However, the chaos began once I ascended tothe duty free area. I just decided to make a beeline for the tranquility of the First Class Lounge.
Lounge was pretty quiet and my time was spent getting free back massage and then just relaxing till boarding was called. I really hate it that EK timed most of their flight at this godly hour.
Even after getting a shower before leaving the hotel, I was still a walking zombie. Being a walking zombie almost made me forget that I will be flying EK's A380 for the first time. Once onboard I found out that there’s only 4pax in F today. The suite is actually a little smaller than what I expected but still really comfortable.
