Hi everyone. My fifth report on A.net just arrived!.
This is a rather different report, since I’ve done (and reported) this route before I will not go on the details of the origin and destination airport but rather stop on reviewing the brand new International Terminal for Bogota’s Eldorado International Airport (BOG) which was opened just a couple of weeks ago on October 18th.
I didn’t see any reports on A.net about the new terminal as I write this report so I guess this is a first on that part.
A look at the plane taking me to BOG.
After a normally delayed flight ex-VLN because of the National Guard, Airport Officials and a nice senior lady who left her carryon bag in the departure lounge, we arrived into BOG a full half hour after our expected arrival time.
The VLN is always bussed to the terminal so I wasn’t expecting a jet bridge. To my surprise, we were parked close to the terminal and a jetway approached the aircraft. I was amazed.
Before attaching the jetbridge.
The nice lady operating the jetbridge.
View inside the jetbridge. I kind of like CCS jetbridges better.
After the jetbridge we turn right!
View to the right hand side.
View of the hallway.
Construction going on.
Another look at the construction.
Going inside the main terminal bulding.
AV is the dominant carrier in BOG.
People arriving from another flight.
The gentleman in yellow was helping confused people out. To the left is the passport control area for people staying in Bogotá. I went ahead to the international connections area.
Blurry look at the passport control area. It is much bigger than before but equally crowded.
AV FAs to the left. Gorgeous uniforms.
I love this livery, so I stopped to snap a picture of this AR A340 coming from EZE, already with their SkyTeam livery.
Another look at AR.
To the left is security for International connections.
The security area. Please note that on the other side they have 2 machines. Going from 1 to 4 machines is a very good improvement. Security was a breeze this time. Made it to my connection in about half hour.
The escalator for the departures floor.
Just as you come out of the escalator you can see the security screening to the left. This is the one for people just entering the airport.
I’m assuming you go through passport control before going through security.
Attenza dominating the Duty Free Shops still…
Also, La Riviera is heavily represented in this airport.
There’s some construction still going on.
I think this is AV’s VIP Lounge.
Walking to my gate!.
Gorgeous new terminal. I love it.
Britt Shop. Wanted to buy chocolate coffee beans but didn’t have much time.
There’s free WiFi in this airport BTW.
Full view of the hallway.
Where I just came from.
Juan Valdez Café… You can’t miss a “Tinto” coffee while in Colombia.
I was in gate 51 so I had to take the elevator downstairs. This had “bus” written all over it.
Another view of the outside. Beautiful BOG.
Detail of the Elevator button.
Flight to AUA next to us.
AC bound for YYZ
Star Alliance in the house!
Lining up for the bus.
One interesting thing is that when using busses for passengers to a plane, priority boarding is practically useless unless you know which door they’re going to open first. Either way you will get mixed with economy passengers in the bus and ultimately not board the plane first and maybe miss the pre flight drink service.
On the way to our plane I see NK
AA in the house.
Like this view of the terminal.
So then we got to the plane and took off for PTY.
That’s all for the outbound leg. I give you some pictures of the return trip:
The plane that took me on the PTY-BOG leg.
Picking up the attendants. Kind of nice.
The new terminal still undergoing construction.
I saw the old terminal and it was still being used for parking the planes, but most of the jetbridges were not in use. This means they park the plane in the old spot for a certain gate but they still bus people to the new terminal. Apparently only CM Colombia is still using some gates for domestic flights.
I believe this is AV’s newest plane, a StarAlliance livery A330.
I saw that on the Avianca en Revista on board magazine. It’s their ninth A330 as the article mentioned.
The new baggage handling system.
Hopping from the first floor to the mezzanine.
Saw AA on the way.
Security lines. This time it was chaos. A lot of people and the security guards were not very interested in making the lines move forward quickly. I even got to wait for a leats 10 minutes as in my line a lady started a brawl with the security officer because he was going to confiscate a bottle of perfume which she refused to give.
My connection came tighter and tighter.
And so the rest is history.
I really like this new terminal and compared to the old one this is a big leap forward. This is really an airport worthy of a great city like Bogotá. I’m proud of my Colombian friends and I send them congratulations on this piece of work.
This also solidifies my decision to change VLN as the main choice for my international flights, meaning I could use AV for most of them as the international connections are now smoother (compared to what I lived a couple of months ago in the old terminal. It’s still not up to the PTY standard (not going through security again), but it’s still cool. I also like AV’s service much more than CM’s.
By the way, I’m not sure if it will interest any of you, but this page is offering 100 miles on Aeromexico, Hawaiian, Delta or United just for signing up and it takes less than 2 minutes to do it. My referral link
So this is all there is for this report. Thanks for stopping by.
Feedback is always appreciated
