EZE-IST VIA GRU With Turkish Airlines!

Tue Apr 02, 2013 6:50 pm

Hello everyone! And welcome to my 3rd trip report.-

This report will cover our flights from Buenos Aires to Tel Aviv with Turkish Airlines.- I know they are widely known in the forum but I think this one is the first TR covering EZE-GRU-IST route, which TK started last december.- We were suposed to fly economy all the way to Israel, but when we changed dates, no economy seats were available.- Instead we had to pay 200U$D per person and upgraded us to Comfort Class.- So on March the 26th we were flying the following route:

We got to the airport at 21:40 for the 23:55 departure but the flight was delayed.- We crossed security and Inmigration and we were at the duty free.- Photos are not permitted here, when I took the pic a security man told me not to.- It was already taken haha.-

Gate 3 was staring tonight.-

The flight was delayed 3hs, so the new departure time was at 3am.- This wasn't good because our 3hs layover in IST was now reduced to 1 and I wouldn't be able to try the CIP lounge.- While waiting TK staff handled water, sodas and sanwichs.- Well done TK.-

Flights schedule.- There was also a Boliviana flight delayed until 3am but at the end it was diverted to MVD.- I was curious about the flight being mentioned twice, as Sao Paulo and Istambul.-

Boardings.-

Once we were onboard, flight crew delivered Menus and we were off to Sao Paulo!

I went for the Beef wraps! It was so tasty.- Fruit and salad were good too.-

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u602/joacocifuentes/Turkish/IMG_0584_zpse049deab.jpg

Soon we were one hour away from GRU.-

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u602/joacocifuentes/Turkish/IMG_0586_zps911176f1.jpg

Well, this is a funny story... 30 minutes before landing in Sao Paulo I had to take a pill for allergies, but somehow I took an sleeping pill! First, I was scared, then I thought "Well, sleep isn't that bad". I expected to sleep for the hour we had in Sao Paulo because we weren't able to deplane.- The problem was that when I woke up, we were in the middle of Africa!!!! I didn't even wake up for take off!

Comfort Class is very nice, and the meals look pretty good.
Definitely one of the best Premium Economy class products out there.

Thanks,

Turkish Airlines is gaining the appreciation of travellers more and more. I was expecting a photo when overflying Tunisia :-P as this flight goes through on both westbound and eastbound

Are the standard lamb and chicken menus on TK hold the mention "Halal" or "Kosher" or not ?

Nice report. The food looks good. Shame about the long delay though.

Sounds like a great deal! Did you get any photos of the cabin in daylight?

Thanks for the great report! I am a big TK fan and had been planning on flying the GRU-IST segment at the beginning of the year; this unfortunately didn't work out. $200 extra for Economy Comfort sounds like a steal; congratulations!

The departures area at Terminal A in EZE looks horribly shabby, especially when compared to the newly opened Terminals B and C. I know the area will be given a new look in the coming months - sorely needed!

Wow! First of all great report!

Now turkish airlines has always impressed me but there comfort class looks so good.
I mean a cheese platter and a proper 3 course meal on premium economy just speaks of the class of the airline.
I hopefully will be flying turkish airlines this summer...probably from DEL to IST...

Hope my experience is good...

Thanks for the report and keep writing

Cheers

This is what THY advises about their catering:

Quote:
All meals served on our flights do not contain any pork products. Also please note that all meals served on Turkish Airlines flights from Istanbul are Halal. However, from some other destinations even though no pork products are used, the meat served may not fit to Halal standards.

No they didn't.- I guess like dcajet said it was Halal and that's why they do not write it down?

Quoting gabrielchew (Reply 3):

Yes it was! Now I'm in the waiting list in my MAD-IST-GRU-EZE trip.- If I get the upgrade it will be 250U$D,. Now, about a pic of the cabin in daylight I didn't, (Don't know why haha) But i have this pic http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u602/joacocifuentes/388484_10200180716653839_232626025_n_zps113dc94b.jpg src="http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u602/joacocifuentes/388484_10200180716653839_232626025_n_zpse3c1db54.jpg" width="650" height="488" alt="http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u602/joacocifuentes/388484_10200180716653839_232626025_n_zpse3c1db54.jpg" border="0"/>

Yes, you are right, anyway I don't like Terminal C.- You don't have stand for declare (Unless there is one now) and the duty free is not good.-

Hi Joaquin,

Always love to read TK trip reports. It's sad but I believe they are doing away with Comfort Class..or did I misunderstand news about it from other details on a.net.

Did you miss the main meal served out of Sao Paulo? I mean they would have served something the passengers boarding at Sao Paulo?

I think I did! I guess I missed breakfast. The flight leaves Sao Paulo at 4.30am so i think yes.-

Nono, this was dinner before arriving.- We landed at 23.25 if I'm not wrong

Thanks for the report. I remember taking the GRU-IST flight when it was first launched via DKR. How times have changed  . I am glad you wrote to us on the EZE leg as it is a first for A.Net. TK does pretty good business on TLV connections which the other Gulf carriers cannot touch.

Thanks again for reporting.

True, from TK16, me, my father and 15 other people were heading to TLV.-

Wow, a nice way to fly all the way from Argentina to Israel.

The USD200 upgrade is totally worth it for this long flight.

Meals look promising as always on TK.

My only wish is they served sparkling wine or perhaps champagne for Comfort class pax!!

Thank you very much for sharing!!

Thanks for the TR.
Just to let you know TK will be discontinuing the Comfort Class.
TK has this class only on its 12 strong 77W fleet. I think the new batch of 20 ordered won't have this class and that might be the time to switch to a 2-class LH fleet, still couple of years away. Unless they decide to do it earlier.

Joaquín, great report man! Thanks a lot for sharing your pictures and for taking the time to write the report; I enjoyed it a lot and cannot help but feel a little jealous. Congrats and keep reporting!

Quoting joacocifuentes (Thread starter):

As many others have told you, this is amazing value. I bet you are happy that you had to change the dates of your trip.

Quoting joacocifuentes (Thread starter):
While waiting TK staff handled water, sodas and sanwichs.- Well done TK.-

This is unusually thoughtful. Last time I got something when facing a delay was back in 2009 at GYE by CM; they issued food vouchers. In that case things had gone horribly wrong; check-in had been a mess due to the need to help stranded passengers from a previous cancelled flight, and the flight to PTY was delayed a few hours.

Quoting joacocifuentes (Thread starter):
I expected to sleep for the hour we had in Sao Paulo because we weren't able to deplane.- The problem was that when I woke up, we were in the middle of Africa!!!! I didn't even wake up for take off!

Oh no! I would have hated that! Less time to enjoy (and critique) the flight, the AVOD and the meals. On the other hand, you had an incredibly long sleep, so I bet you were not tired when you finally arrived in Israel.

Quoting TK787 (Reply 18):

I know and I think it is terrible news. I wonder why some carriers (like, allegedly, NZ or QF) count W-class as one of their most profitable, and TK is having trouble doing so. Is it maybe a pricing issue? These days more and more carriers like CX, LH, SU, etc. are implementing W-class in long-haul, so it seems counterintuitive to drop it. I dunno, but it saddens me because I really want to sample TK's premium economy offering. I suppose I should hurry up and book flights to IST from the U.S. or something!
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Yes it was very cheap, and as I was not paying, even better!

Oh I love CM, they have such a good service, good for them.
