and welcome to my first trip report here on airliners.net. Even this is my first report here in this forum, I'm not a newcomer in this scene. I read nearly all the trip reports for about 3 years and I did many trips in the past 2 years. Some of them I did together with my brother, who also is in this forum (luxair747sp). My dream was it for a long time to reach a gold frequent flyer status. After searching the FFP with the lowest qualification for Gold, my adventure begun. My focus was on Star Alliance, but I firstly wanted to do BA
silver (oneworld sapphire), but after I red that executive club isn't allowed for people under 18 I had to search for new option, and I found one rather quickely: Spanair Star gold with only 30 segments!
But this time there were speculations about the critical financiell situation of JK
. So I finally decided for Aegean Gold. Than, I had to search options how to earn the miles the cheapest way: I was in Athens on LX
Business Saver and in PHL
business (special offer). Luckily, they introduced their new business booking class P (saver, no miles on A3
) after booking my special deal (this time it still was Z (normal mileage). So after reaching my tier in July 2012 I was happy
Some of you could know me because I joined my brother for the a.net meeting in FRA
in 2011 and a small meeting in MUC
in august this year. I already did some trips since I reached my status, espacially to enjoy the Star Gold lounges.
So, now to the trip coverd in this report: FRA
on SWISS in business, the retur leg on LH
economy will not be shown now because there are hundreds of reports with LH
For both parts I booked return that means that I will do the very same trip in January again. I do this always because its much easier and cheaper booking this way on LH
group airlines on intra europe flights. As well, I had to book my 'connection' on the Deutsch Bahn which means a totally overpriced ticked price of just 25 € o/w with the BahnCard 25.
The day started rather early I had to wake up at 3 am because I had to get my rgional express at 3.48 am. Luckily my father drove me at the station of SCN
After a ride of next to 3 hours, I finally arrived at FRA
regio-station. I made my way to the LH
FCL/ Star Gold check in, but first some impressions of FRA
The 'bouncer' lady in the red area wasn't unknown to me. I think it was already the 3rd that she was on this place when I checked in there and it seemed that she knowed me already becaus normally you have to show your ticket or your card but she smiled and said 'its OK
'. Very different it was the first time I checked in there: the lady there was very unfriendly and surprised to see somebody in my age using this counters without adults with Gold etc. I was really impressed this time about the friendliness of the agents. Maybe its becaus A+ opend only a few weeks before
After taking my boarding passes, I made my way to security, the fast lane is only about 50 meters away from the priority desks. It took about 2 mins with nobody in front of me. I was quite surprised about this because even in fastlane there are sometimes about 40 people in front of you but not so this day. It was the 2nd time for travelling the new A+ pier. I was with my parents in Vienna only one week ago. But now a few impressions of the new Pier:
Now its time to go to Senator Lounge near Gate A 50. I have to say this loung is really amazing, I like the LH
Seantor lounges a lot but compared to the A26 one this is like in heaven. I think its 4-times bigger than the old one. Huge buffet, relaxing areas, WORLDSHOP etc. , let pictures tell the story:
After a good breakfast including hot items as well (the first time Ive seen this in a SEN
lounge) I headed for the new gate A13 LH
business lounge. The agent was surprised why I woulden't go for the SEN
one but I explained that I want to see the new Business lounge as well. Inside, it was totally crowded, I think this lounge isnt bigger at all compared to the old A26 one. Not good LH
, there were about 50 people without a seat. I think for a seat you have to wait for 20 min in average in the busy mornings. The SEN
lounge is twice bigger I think.
Now, I made my way for gate A02 for boarding my LX
flight. They announced priority boarding even we had a busgate. Strange...After a busride of 5 mins we arrived at our A321 HB
On board, they had reserved 11 rows for business class that means the curtain was behind the first door. The most interesting fact is that there were only 9 people in business and economy was completely full. Very good service here. The 8 others were in row 1,2 and 3 and I was in row 7 that means 4 rows behind and 4 in front of me there was nobody. Thats business class! It should be like this every time!
After the standard welcome speach, we made our way for runway 18 for take off.
After take off the purser came and asked every passenger what he would like to drink and he brought it on a small tablett not on the trolley. Very personal service her again! The same with food, he brought it to the passengers by hand and he was super friendly.
After 20 min the captain announced that we already descended, and after 30 mins we already touched down in ZRH
. But I never had a better Service on such a short flight. Its the secound time for me flying this flight LX
1069 in Business, last time on an Avro, but this time it was much better.
isnt a new airport for me, so I walked a bit around and finally made my way for the SWISS Senator Lounge.
Not much traffic here now but after half an hour the lounge begun to fill up because the long haul rush hour is about to begin. The offers are next to the same as in the Business Lounge, sadly, and the interieur is the same as well as in the BCL. In general, I can't see a difference between the Business and the Senator Lounge. I think in the SEN
there were several hot dishes, when I was in the Business Lounge a year ago, they offered only one hot dish (the famous standard pasta). Here the impressions.
After an hour or so, I left the lounge, because my CDG
flight was leaving from the new B-Pier of ZRH
, well its not new anymore but the first time I experience it. I have to say that it isn't very nice in general. It looks exactely like the Skylink Terminal in Vienna and both are quite flairless and cold. The A-side here in ZRH
looks much more inviting with its nice stone-bottom, here is dark plastic everywere. By the way there was something very interesting in the mainhall: they had a piano player here, that was really impressive, and I've never seen something like this before.
So now it was time for boarding: Priority bording call was done, I was the first one in line, so the first one in the plane also. The female Maître de cabine looked at the bording pass of next to every passenger, and showed them the way to their seats, including me. Again, I have never seen this before on an A319 flight. Again, the crew was super friendly. Every C-class passenger was asked which language he is speaking. Very professionell here again. Three seats for me like on the FRA
SWISS still is the best airline in europe if you ask me. I've never had a bad experience on them. After the safety demo, we made our way for take-off. Flight time 1 hour and 15 mins this time.
10 mins after take off, the first of 3 drink runs was done (including one with coffee). The food was very good for such a short flight again but it could have been more. This is the one and only point in which I can critisize SWISS.
The trays were collected and coffee with the famous SWISS chocolates was handed out. After 50 mins or so, the FO announced the descent and informed us about the weather situation in Paris, very bad, rainy and cloudy. After 70 mins in air we finally touched down in CDG
and made our way for T1 satellite 6, the most strange airport terminal in the world if you ask me. It's like a, lets call it disabled spider, I don't know, everything full with tunnels and the most strange thing is that everything is in circles and round and can be quite confusing. This is my 3rd experience with CDG
T1 and it's impressing me every time.
So, after 5 mis of taxiing, we standed at the LH
satellite number 6. I said goodbye to the crew and made my way to the exit.
I checked in at FCL desk of LH
for my return flight to FRA
economy, and went to the Senator Lounge at Satellite 6. This lounge is poor for a SEN
lounge and it's under the earth, that means no windows and no natural light, quite depressive. I went upstairs again. About the LH
flight there is not much to say. A standard 737-300 europe flight. I had 3 seats for myself in the exit row and the catering was the usual Käsebrot/cheese sandwich and crew was nice.
: Very good and personal service on SWISS as usual.
transit: Good, but not impressive SWISS SEN
longe, the LH
ones in FRA
are definetely much better. In general, ZRH
airport is very nice one, and I will travel via Zurich again for sure.
: Again impressive Business Class service for such a short flight and nice crew.
In general, I can only praise SWISS for it's amazing service, in my opinion the best service in europe, if I compare it to other STAR or OW
carriers like BA
or SAS. And still seems like SWISS would be something like a 'premium' airline of the Lufthansa group.
So, I have to say thank you very much for reading my first report here on anet, and if I could do something better in the future, please only say. Questions or comments are very welcome.
