Flight LH983 is the first scheduled flight to leave DUB each day, usually departing - as was in this day's case - 05:30. The aircraft overnights in DUB after arriving from FRA the previuos evening as flight LH982. I tracked this flight leaving FRA the night before.

After taking the 3am Aircoach bus service to the airport I went to Lufthansa check-in to pick up my boarding passes for my two LH flights. The line for check-in and baggage drop-off was quite long, with a large proportion of my fellow passengers making connections in FRA.

After picking up my boarding cards I proceeded to security, where I passed through without delay due to the early time of day. Once airside, I noticed that a number of the shopping outlets were not yet opened, so I found myself a comfortable area which was showing some quite entertaining films.

After resting for 20-30mins I headed to the departure gate in Dublin's Pier B. At the same time the LH flight and cabin crews arrived after their overnight stay and boarded the aircraft. Load factor was at about 70% today. Within a rather short 20mins it was announced that boarding was to begin. The boarding process was carried out efficiently and all were on-board. Soon afterwards the A321 pushed-back, engines started, and we headed to runway 28 for takeoff. Check out the video below!

Takeoff over Dublin provided some nice views.

Within 20mins of takeoff the breakfast snack was served, which consisted of a choice of juices, tea or coffee, and an crossaint with cheese and ham. It tasted quite good, and was not too heavy for food at that time of the morning.

The rest of the flight was largely uneventful, and soon it was time for a punctual landing at FRA. Check out the rather spectacular snowy landing at FRA!

I was quite surprised at the snow coverage at FRA, and even more so that that airport was still fully operational! Here are some pics of the taxi to the gate.

Disembarkation proceeded swiftly and I was outside in the train station within 10mins. And excellent timing I thought!

After a short stop in the city I made my way back to FRA for my second flight of the day!

Returning from the city, I made my way for that famous departures board in Lufthansa's Terminal at FRA.

Security, although with lenghty queues, was a quick process and I headed for some food afterwards. Having some spare time before my flight to LHR, I decided to take some pictures of the aircraft to be seen around FRA.

Soon it was time for my flight to LHR. At the boarding gate was Airbus A320 [D-AIQC].

Boarding was a busy affair, with many passengers having been rebooked onto this flight due to snow cancellations earlier that morning. With a full passenger load, this flight too departed on time, leaving snowy FRA behind and heading for a cloudy LHR.

This was another good flight by LH, with my only complaint being the reclining mechanism on my seat, it kept moving backwards

As a snack we were served an coconut and berry cake slice, which I unfortunately forgot to take a photo of, but I think I've found a file pic of it online:

The descent into LHR had some obligatory holding circle patterns until we could land. The landing into LHR I thought was marvellous, complete with impressive wing condensation and two sneaky gusts of wind which got everybody excited! See the video in the link below!

After leaving the aircraft and passing through border control I headed to take a Heathrow Express train, where I took a train to the city to go to one of my favourite cafes there. After paying a visit there and taking a stroll around the city I took the Heathrow Express back to LHR.

BA's DUB-LHR route began after it's acquisition of BMI British Midland (BD), so this route is one of a number of BA flights which now leaves from LHR's Terminal 1, and also uses ex-BD aircraft.

T1 offers a good selection of restaurants, and I opted for a nice Burger at the Giraffe restaurant there. Afterwards I found a nice seat in a cafe where I could watch the aircraft movements on one of the runways.

Eventually it was time to go to the departure gates. There didn;t seem to be many people at the gate, and when onboard we were infomed that there were only 40 passengers on this flight, so everybody could take a group of 3 seats to themselves.

We quickly pushed-back and taxiied for the runway. After waiting behind a BA 767 and a SQ 777, we took off for DUB. See the video below!

We were offered a rather measly snack option, of a snack bar and a drink. I opted for a cookie and a cup of water.

This flight to DUB was very short, lasting only 45min. The video of the landing at DUB is linked below!

Disembarking was speedy, no doubt helped by the lack of passengers! Border control was likewise and I took the next Aircoach back home!!

Overall I thought this a very good trip!

Lufthansa's offering I felt very reasonable, although FRA was difficult to navigate at times.

I was disappointed with BA however. The cabin was ex-BD and I think it is much inferior to the usual BA cabin. I hope this issue will disappear over the coming years!

Hey Cormac,

Nice report glad you had a good day . I agree the cookie for the FRA-LHR is a bit cheap. Compared to what LH gave that is.

Nice video(s) .

Very nice TR!
Glad to see that the snow in FRA did not delay your flight.
That airport tracking picture, is that an app for the iphone?

haha I also hate when this happens! When you're taking off your seat reclines and the person behind you is like 'what the F!'

haha

Great TR - very much enjoyed it.

Yup I have it on my iPhone. It's flightradar24, an excellent app!
