When searching for flights, four options came up for the 5 hour flight from Sao Paulo to Lima:
All four of the flights were the same price, so the TAM A330 option seemed best because even though TAM isn't known for being the best airline, the times were great and I could get more miles for my UA Mileage Plus account (TAM is Star Alliance). Also, I had never been on an A330 so I thought it would be nice to add a new aircraft type to my list
I want to apologize for some of the images screwing up, I am relatively new to a.net and I did not know how to fix them. If you have any suggestions let me know. I hope you can still enjoy the TR even with the images all weird...
From the Great Circle Mapper:
There was hardly any traffic on the way to Guarulhos
We arrived at the international departures terminal around 6 am.
Check-in went smoothly, no problems checking our bags. Unfortunately the flight was full and there weren’t many available seats so I was stuck with 33K in the back, right where the fuselage starts to narrow. At least I had a window seat, no?
Had to exchange some Brazilian Reis for some Peruvian Soles
Heading towards security
Going through security was a breeze, nothing at all compared to any US airport!
I did have some trouble when passing through customs because the agent had to go to her office to check my documents because I think she got confused when she saw both my travel and my permanent visa in my passport. This happens every time I go through Guarulhos and it holds me up for almost 15 minutes every time.
My flight was leaving from gate 6, but since it was really crowded there and the windows didn't offer good views, I headed to the end of the terminal to see if there was anything interesting.
AZ 772 bound for Rome
AF 77W to Paris
IB A346 to Madrid
The tail of a US 762 peeking out... I can't imagine sitting in a US Airways plane for the 10 hours to CLT
AV A332 bound for Bogota
Another JJ A332 arrving from Orlando
This part of the terminal was pretty empty after the AF flight left
I returned to gate 6 to see that my aircraft arrived

When passengers with special needs were invited to board, everyone rushed to get in line.
While going through the jet way, I looked into the cockpit and saw that the captain was a lady. I've never seen a female wide-body pilot... good for her!
After getting on board, I took the mandatory legroom shot. Legroom was fine (I am 5'11')'
The aircraft filled up, there were only a few empty seats left.
The safety video started quickly… I liked the little animations TAM had
The A330 engine start is pretty quiet... or maybe that is just because of where I was sitting.
I took a look at the two external cameras the airplane had to offer and saw we were waiting behind another JJ A332 and a G3 73G for takeoff.

All lined up nicely.

Here we go!

There was the AA 77W on approach from JFK. It’s hard to see in the picture.

The man in front reclined and closed my other window... oh well
I took a nap and missed the meal service. I slept for around an hour and a half. By the time I woke up, we were just crossing out of Brazil.
I like the mood lighting. It changed over the course of the flight.
We took a significant diversion to the south and this added about an hour to our flight time.
They served more drinks as we got close to Lima
The peanut bag was so small, probably had no more than 10 peanuts in it.
I went to check out the bathroom during the decent, it was pretty dirty, more than usual for an airplane economy bathroom
We started our decent over the coastline so I had a great view of the Andes

Come unload my bags!
Cargo door open
The TAM flight to Lima was very enjoyable, the airplane was fine and comfortable enough for the 5 hour flight, the IFE was great and I loved the external camera views as well as the mood lighting.
