Bangkok -> Phuket W/ TG B744 (Part 3 + Pix)

Mon Oct 21, 2013 6:46 am

Sawasdee-krup,

This section of my journey will cover my flight from Suvarnabhumi to Phuket with a touch of Thai! After a fun-filled week of shopping, nightlife, sightseeing, and dining in Bangkok, it was time to spend a week in Phuket.

+ TG BKK-HKT B744 Y

First, a little spotting around the Domestic Wing:

Domestic Wing.

Bangkok Airways.

Arrival.

Then, it was time to board by bus:

Boarding by stairs gave me this wonderful photo.

Cozy with Thai!

Our neighbor.

About face. This is my plane to Phuket!

And, our friendly cabin crew. Smiles all the way to Phuket!

Next, some cabin photos:

In just under one hour, Thai can take you to Phuket.

The emergency exit row was assigned to me at check-in. How lucky is that?

Service items:

In-flight amenities and service items.

Snack box is served to all passengers in Thai Economy.

Fruit juice, taro pastry, and package of utensils, napkin, sugar and cream for tea/coffee service.

The Purser brought me a souvenir for my first flight with Thai. This is a Captain's Log Book and also a writing pen from Thai. How nice was that?

Seat Decor:

How pretty are the seat cushion covers? And yes, I was blessed with three seats all to myself on this near-full flight! Thank you TG!!!

Overhead:

Nearly there!

Destination: Kata Beach.

Kata Beach Day 1. Monsoon seasonal weather.

Surf House Kata. This place became my regular hang-out.

Beyond Rangoon.

Snack.

A restaurant in Sawasdee Village.

View from "Fried Rice" restaurant. Very delicious! And my hotel across the way, "Color" Kata Hotel. Wonderful rooms!

The best Pad Thai I've ever had!!! @ "Fried Rice" restaurant in Kata Town.

FINALLY some sun!!!

Beyond.

From the sea to the beach. There is a view everywhere!

+ Destination: Koh Phi Phi + Khai Nok + Maya Bay

Day excursion to Koh Phi Phi.

Viking Cave.

Koh Khai Nok.

I hope you enjoyed this report with Thai Airways and Phuket Island!

Cheers,

It's surprising that TG uses 747-400's on short domestic flights, like BKK-HKT-BKK and BKK-CNX-BKK. But they told me that the 747-400's would just sit around at Suvarnabhumi most of the day, so they use it on the domestic sectors, and by night, she will be ready to fly to Europe.
Have you kissed a 777 today?

Hurricanes in New York, earthquakes in California, tornados in Dallas, tsunami in Tokyo, ... don't let life stop you from a new experience. Live for the moment and go!

Quoting triple7man (Reply 2):

I intentionally booked the 744 flights as I did not mind paying the extra Baht. The lowest fares were operated by A320 by Thai Smile. I was very happy the option was available at good timings for my holiday. I hate waking up early to catch a plane whilst on vacation. I'm not a morning person, exactly. lol!!!!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience in my hometown.

Yes TG flies 744s, 77Ws, 773s, 772s and 330s. The reason behind isn't because the 744 will sit in BKK all day.
It's because of the high demand both domestically and serve transfer pax to Europe, East Asia, Australia and beyond.
They can run 2 744s flight in the morning feeding pax out of BKK and 2 in the evening taking pax back home.

I believe we will see 1 744 and 1 77W this upcoming W13 for Phuket. Not to mention the rest are also all widebody flights with the exception of THAIsmile.

On the low travel season you can find cheap domestic flights at 16xx Baht (50 USD) each way with 500 status miles towards Royal Orchid Plus account. What a deal!!

Anyhow, will follow all your trip reports.
Brgds,
net-HKT
Let's just blame it on yields.

Swasdeekrup nethkt!!!

I had THE TIME OF MY LIFE in Phuket!!! This really rounded out my wonderful first time experience in Thailand! Everyone everywhere were so friendly and so helpful! I cannot get over how many smiles and warmth I had experienced!!!
I think what helped me most, I had printed out a "cheat sheet" for speaking Thai with the correct pronunciations, and practiced at home before flying to Bangkok. The entire experience was beyond perfect and I am in L-O-V-E with Kata Town and Kata Beach!!! I'm so excited to visit again! Also, I really enjoyed the friendly flight attendants of both DL and TG!!! During this trip, I signed up for ROP - which is HUGE for me - because I am very loyal to Skyteam. But as they say, "when in Rome," (when in Thailand, fly THAI) and so glad I did!!! I earned 1,000 miles for BKK-HKT&v.v. so I have a long way to go to earn status.

As far as the 744, the flights were near-full on the outbound and completely full on the return. My aim is to fly on A300 next time in Thailand. I have flown so many AF A320's, I wanted to avoid THAIsmile, but I have to admit, it sounded fun to fly on an airline with "smile" on the plane! If I have the option next trip to Thailand, I want to experience the A300 and 744 again - maybe 777, but I've flown so many 777's so I want to change things up a little. =]

It's very nice to see response from our Thailand-based a.net members!!! I, too will follow you and triple7man and anyone else flying from Thailand because I have become enchanted with all things Thai!!! I really had a wonderful vacation!!!

Thank you and kind regards,

AirAfreak =]

Thank you for the nice compliment! I have to improve my trip reports, it seems, such as making sure all of my photos upload correctly, etc. Anyway, this was my first visit to Thailand and it really is amazing! I am planning a return in late-winter/early-spring! It's definitely one of the best vacations I've ever had! Really and truly!

Cheers!
