The Tradegy Of Meni Levi

Mon Jul 15, 2002 12:53 am

This happened last December to a young Israeli footballer and not lots have heard of it. I'm not selling anything to anybody. I just thought I want you to be aware of this. What you will read is straight from my heart, not copied from anywhere.

December 2001:
A Classic football game between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Beitar Jerusalem. The game starts and it feels good. 9 minutes and 27 seconds after the whistle, 22 year old Meni Levi (Right Defender, Maccabi Tel Aviv) rolled his eyes and fell to the ground. Immediately a player from Beitar Jerusalem (Itzhik Zohar) gave him mouth-to-mouth ressitation. It kept Meni Levi alive until the ambulances came. And there on live television and infront of 30,000 fans, Meni was taken to a Jerusalem hospital. The game was ofcourse cancelled with players crying on both sides of the field.

---------------------------------------
Since that fateful day, Meni has been lying in a hospital bed unconscious. It is curious to see what will happen to him. How could this happen to Meni???

He was only 22 years old.
--------------------------------------
Meni is ofcourse still in a hospital an it seems nothing can wake him up. Not even Maccabi Tel Aviv's winning of the Israeli Cup.

I don't know why I told you people this but I thought you should be aware.

That is sad, especially as he was so young. Did he maybe have problems with his heart before, or did it just appear there ?

Hope he'll wake up someday soon and maybe even play football again.

Well there is a huge controversy here about wether he had the problems and the doctors hid it so he could play or what.

Hmm, Meni Levi, wasn't that the name of the son of the Rabbi in the book The Chosen?

He had cardiac arrest - it just stopped and he was given resitation and then he returned to life and went into comma.

Yes, I heard of it the night it happened, on Kol Israel, and in the following days. But since then, nothing; Just a few days ago I was asking myself what his condition could be. It's terrible, very sad.

It's just so odd - a little boy is now almost dead...
