Remark Photographer
N536JB (cn 1784) Del 05/24/2002 "Canyon Blue", tail livery "Squares" ex Airbus F-WWDS performs a low pass for the LGB tower for a nose gear inspection, and as you can see the nose gear is in a 90-degree position. Following the flyby, the aircraft spent the next 2 hours flying over the Pacific Ocean just off Long Beach burning fuel before diverting to LAX for an emergency landing, which happily was a succesful one without injuries.

It is incredible that you got a shot of this flyby at such a perfect moment! You can very clearly see what was the problem! Kudos to the pilot and to you for a great shot!

A visitor from United States posted Wed October 26, 2005:
Exceptional Work by the pilots...funny how the name of the aircraft is canyon blue, the same name that Southwest paints their jets, its kind of ironic...

Please let know the CNN spanish reporter, that airplanes like Airbus does not have a "wheal" in the cabin to direct the plane on ground. A big lapsus from a very important TV network!!

Very nice shot, clear, captures that sideways nosewheel very nicely. The photographer was definitely in the right place at the right time!

A visitor from Australia posted Sun September 25, 2005:
Just a little info for you. If there's a fault, the wheels are *supposed* to do this, as it's safer having them point sideways than at some intermediate angle. Also the aircraft has been designed to land safely in this situation (but it looks impressive!)

Hello Airliners.net,

I am Gabriel Fernandes and I am already a member of Airliners.net.

This photo is excellent because it shows the plane just before the incident and also the issue with the wheel.

A visitor from Mexico posted Fri September 23, 2005:
Just how the nose gear got sideways after take-off? Impossible from land obviously. Thank goodness that everything turned out good.

A visitor from Canada posted Fri September 23, 2005:

With the happy ending, this photo should be titled: God is my nosegear.
