The photo clearly shows the wing tip vortices below the aircraft and the wind blowing them to the right. Therein lies the danger zone for pilots.

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 13, 2008:
This is a terrific image which doesn't conform to the rules of nines but excellent symmetry in the position of the plane with respect to the clouds and wonderful lead in lines in the highlighted clouds at the bottom which bring your eye in the center of interest. B&W in this image is very effective with the clouds and the silouette of the plane; whether this was the choice of the photographer to shot it as a B&W or whether it is a color image with B&W comonents is immaterial.

A visitor from Norway posted Fri June 13, 2008:

Did you notice the face in the photo? The two swirls being the eyes, the dark area below that and the little lighter area below that combine to form the nose, then below that the semi-dark u-shaped line form the smile. Awsome picture!

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sat June 7, 2008:
The capturing of light and dark in this photo is intriguing. Also the whirl and swrirl of clouds by the airwaves has been perfectly captured. It is truly artistic.

Hey....first of all let me congrajulate the photographer to shoot a clear cut picture of a high velocity object in this angle. i'm having high interest in aeronautics and the way the plane stbilizes itself in the midst of that huge storm is just amazing.

A visitor from United States posted Fri September 28, 2007:
This image shows that the effect of an airplane's wake travels a great distance, just as the wake of a ship (or for that matter a duck) formed in the water travels far and can interact with the wakes of other "ducks" plus there is pure beauty in the wake's visual form

This photo has an interesting dynamic working for it with the way the turbulence of the cloud is created by the passing of the plane. It is something that isn't seen everyday and the subtle shades of gray and the very dark of the plane work well in this composition. Bob

A visitor from United States posted Sat November 11, 2006:
In addition to being a masterpiece of photographer's technique, this photo precisely shows what wake turblulence is all about. It should be a part of every pilot's initial and recurrent training, as it - - quite literally - is worth the thousand words or so which attempt to describe the dangers of wake turbulence to following aircraft.

The composition, I had to look twice to convince myself it was a photo and not a painting. The unique shape of the clouds just below the plane and that fabulous light effect below the shape. This is not just planespotting anymore, but art!

The shadowing of the swirls with light from below, the sharpness of the aircraft (as it should be) in contrast to the soft clouds. Kind of interesting when you think about it, those swirls are danger!

A photographer can be lucky but this photo shows the sheer ability of the photographer to put himself in the right place to make visible the way we surf the skies now. The passengers are busy with their lives inside not realising the beauty of the technology that surrounds them.

Most photographers wait a life time for that one instant when the subject, atmospheric conditions, and opportunity all arrive at the same place at the same time. The swirling of the cloud formation by the wing vortex is truly a once-in-a-lifetime shot.

Very nice picture to illustrate what my research team actually study: contrails in air wake of airliners.

Great shot!! remind me not to fly too close behind this bird!

State-of-the-art! Fantastic movement/shadow balance!

The contrast is just enough to show the enormous amount of backwash in the air behind the plane. It shows clearly the power inherent in the modern airliner
