Remark Photographer
Jumpseat view of NRT's second runway, opened in 2002 after more than 10 years of - still unresolved - dispute with local landowners, that led the original project to be shifted to the north. The unusable south section, marked by red crosses, is split from the 2.180 m runway by a private property. The taxiway deviates around another property; due to lack of lateral separation, aircraft must hold for traffic on the runway before entering the by-pass.

I know and respect Japanese culture, but the noise levels at this farm would get on my nerves after time.

This airport looks like a maze. And I have to say this, what a waste of land to have such dispute at the heart of NRT!!

This is one of those picture worth a thousand words photos as to way Narita's second runway is 6000 feet long.
