This is a full view of the airport Princess Juliana in St Maarten at sunrise as seen from the hills opposite to Maho Beach. Note the construction of the extension of the runway on the Simpson Bay lagoon side so that a safety zone can be made on both sides of the runway. Plans existed for the same extension to be made on the Ocean side, but it seems that those will never go ahead. It is truly a beautiful airport, and illuminated by the 06:42AM sunlight is looks even better.[300D+Canon100-400L IS]

Terrific view of the airport and runway. From this perspective, you can't help wondering how a 747 ever makes it into and out of this very short looking runway.

Great picture!!! Gives a different perspective of Juliana. There seems to be land reclamation work being done in the foregroud... are they extending the runway length to coincide with the opening of the new terminal???
