A DC-8 (not a CV990!) with turbojet engines is a very rare sight nowadays! Note that the no.4 reverser/noise suppressor ring on the back of the engine is in a (more or less) halfway position, never seen that before.
Notice the TU-4 modified with a radome. then look at the guy under the wing. thats how big the boeing B-29. this photo is worth 5 stars.
Isn't it a bit strange to place the old Orbit Eyeclinic jet right next to the military Bombers and Fighters ?
Interesting picture. I was aware of the "reverse engineered" B-29s but I hadn't heard about them copying a DC-8. I'm kidding of course. Does Orbis still fly the DC-10?
What I see is a Chinese Convair 990 with DC8 nose air inlets, and a B 29 Turboprop with blue props...
Mate, the setting may be ugly but what you can see in this photo is a tiny portion of what is there. All kinds of rare stuff - military and civil - though I do have to say the CAAC IL-62 and various Tridents really did it for me - not to say anything about the Viscount, Convairs (props, not the 880/990 ...) and the weird AH-64 Apache prototype thingy in the underground hangar.
Wonderful, interesting, rare and exotic aircraft (especially the Tu-4 KJ-1, if I am not mistaken), but quite an ugly, disgusting setting.
I have been to Datangshan twice - in 2007 and 2008. The building in the background was not there in 2008 - rapid construction! I am not sure how the photographer got this view, perhaps the control tower-style building? This place is amazing and well worth the effort to get there. I am impressed with this photographer's efforts! Well done, mate!
