Great pic. The impression that the runway is inadequate is false. The runway is 3200m. And pilots require no special certification. The only limitation is the local civil aviation dept. doesnt allow 747-400's to operate to the airport. The factor being that it wont be able to abort a full load take-off given the length of the runway. But on per case basis 747-400 has operated to the airport for example as VVIP flights. The terminal when the current upgrade is done would be able to handle 7 wide bodies simultaniously. Additionally, airbridges are being installed for the first time at the new depature pier.

This photo shows the perspective that a pilot on final approach would have. At 10,500 feet (3200m) this is about 10-11 times the length of a US Navy Nimitz class CVN. With no arrestor cables, the margin of error for landing a wide body is very minimal and for takeoffs since there is no catapult assistance a good strong headwind blowing straight at a departing widebody will be needed to assure the proper lift in such a short space. Kind of like Dolittle's boys taking off from the USS Hornet in April of '42! Sort of also reminds me of Nagoya, Japan (NGO) Chubu; without the big terminal and the taxiways.

Having been work there this airport is adquate for wide body aircrafts. After the asian Tsunami a C-5 galaxy landed with aid. If it can land with full Load I guess a wide body can land without much of a problem.
