Remark Photographer
After 60 years, on this day the US Air Force returned their land to FRAPORT in a big ceremony. This is the last regular C-17, receiving a water cannon salute. Parked at the military apron are all USAF aircraft which recently flew into FRA: Hercules, Starlifter, Galaxy, KC10, B707, and Globemaster. The Lufthansa 747 is the first German airliner to be parked on the military apron. Farewell US Troops, you made that airport special. C-17 captains words: "Thanks for 60 years of very good work, Globemaster C-17 is now out."

Great photo! My dad worked at Rhein-Main at the base headquarters for a year and a half up until a week before the closing ceremony. Our old house in Gateway Gardens on the north side of the airport has already been demolished. It's a shame that such a historic base closed its doors. In ten years most of the base will be gone, I hope Fraport keeps the Luftbrucke monument where it is overlooking the A5.

Such a shame, I left Rhein-Main only the weekend before. Within 15 years, little will remain of this historic base.

Great photo! Hear FRA was building a new Terminal, I didn't realise at first they were using the military apron, though. Big shame, but I think FRA really needs the expansion

Very nice shot! Great overview!
Too bad USAF is leaving... The airbase was truly unique...
But anyway, FRA needs a new terminal...
