River Visual runway 1. Past the airport on the other side of the Potomac River is prohibited airspace P-56; the airport is very close. Departing and arriving aircraft on the north side of the airport stay over or west of the River to avoid that airspace. Left to right you can see the Lincoln Memorial, some Smithsonian buildings, the Jefferson Memorial, the White House, and the National Monument.

Great photograph of a wonderful city.

Nice photo and some very interesting info. Planes taking off to the north must have to stay over the Potomac.

A sight well remembered from many approaches in a King Air at all kinds of weather, and always being happy to be the next to land after sometimes long holdings and waitings due to congested airspace

All about business concept. National Airport was built by the federal government from 1940 to 1941 by John McShain on mudflats alongside the Potomac River at Gravelly Point, immediately south of Washington, D.C, and roughly 4 miles from the Capitol.
