A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri January 20, 2006:Wow. Really captures the size comparision compared to the people on the beach!
A visitor from Canada posted Mon January 16, 2006:Great picture! I have been to St. Maarten 4 times and am still thrilled to watch the planes. It is quite a feeling to be on the beach as one flies overhead. I have also seen people thrown into the water when a plane takes off--you have to be careful. I am going back to the island next month--will return to the beach since I stay at Maho resort--it is a blast!!
A visitor from Malaysia posted Fri January 13, 2006:I was in St Maarten in March of 2001 flying the R44 Police helicopter N644PD. I stood on the road underneath a landing 747 1 day, and must say, I felt as if I could touch the plane, and was a bit nervous. But it is higher than it appears. I forgot the website, but the sunset bar, near to where this photo was taken has a web cam that allows you to watch it live everyday. The 747 comes in between 4 and 6 pm every day. and it is an awesome sight to see. Also some fun is when the 74 takes off, you can stand at the end of the runway, and the jet blast is SO strong you have to hold the airport fence to stay put! I know, I tried! Cliff
A visitor from United States posted Wed January 11, 2006:I have a similiar photo of another Air France 747 making this approach (although slightly higher of the ground). When I show that photo to people they refuse to believe it's the real deal and think it's a doctored photo. I then show them some other shot's of other aircraft landing there at Phillipsburg, St. Maarten. But I must admit, sometimes I wondered the same thing until I spoke to folks that have visited the island. If I ever get to visit, I'm going to this spot and hopefully it will be downwind when I'm there !!!
A visitor from United States posted Wed January 4, 2006:Although this is a concerning photo, those on the ground are seeing a landing that not many get to see. I wish I was there.
A visitor from United States posted Sun December 25, 2005:I'm amazed I've never seen anything like this, ever. Kudos to you for the shot, are rare find indeed.
A visitor from United States posted Fri December 16, 2005:Wow
A visitor from Norway posted Sun December 11, 2005:This is a place that should keep pilots on their toes; especially the 747's from Europe. The runway is too short for a 747 takeoff for Europe; they have to go for a refuel somewhere in the vicinity.
A visitor from United States posted Sun December 4, 2005:The extremely low approach this aircraft is making, literally almost on top of the people on the beach, makes it exciting and scary at the same time. If the pilots aren't really, really good, you could have the making of a real catastrophe. I personally would find somewhere else to swim or get a suntan!!!
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat November 26, 2005:An EXCELLANT Photograph. I would love to go and wtch some other planes land here!!
A visitor from Canada posted Fri November 25, 2005:Great shot thanks
A visitor from Iceland posted Sun November 20, 2005:Scary!
A visitor from Japan posted Sat November 19, 2005:I wonder if the PAR Controller says "Over nude beach" "over approach lights on course on glidepath"
A visitor from United States posted Thu November 10, 2005:Because its very close to the ground
A visitor from Germany posted Wed November 9, 2005:The Boeing is terrifying low - a great shot of "Air Fence" ;-)
A visitor from United States posted Mon November 7, 2005:I think I would be lying flat on the beach, trying to avoid the landing gear.
A visitor from Finland posted Thu November 3, 2005:Just amazing to see it so close to end of the runway
A visitor from United States posted Thu October 27, 2005:The closeness between whats in the air where is the ground.
A visitor from Mexico posted Fri October 21, 2005:It's an amazing scenario it looks like a huge animal coming out of the water
A visitor from Canada posted Tue October 11, 2005:What the HECK is wrong with this airport? http://www.airliners.net/open.file/211543/M/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/027599/M/ And there's a third somewhere else on the site ... As said by myself before, a great place to go if you like nude beaches and getting detailed looks at aircraft. Feel sorry for any passenger spotting that guy in the thong. Or maybe he's wearing nothing. But great photography on the part of the photgrapher!
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed October 5, 2005:What an amazing place to go. Great Photo
A visitor from United States posted Sat October 1, 2005:What a rush to be so close to something that big whizzing past. a bit of wind or wind sheer would be a disaster as it is so low to the beach, fence and such. Wind change off the ocean. I was on an aircraft carrier and know about fast planes at close quarters.
A visitor from United States posted Wed September 28, 2005:The background and foreground are equally viewable. it makes me wonder how many landings he watched before catching the lighting as it is. i would like to see this scene with the sun directly overhead.
A visitor from United States posted Sat September 24, 2005:Beyond cool!!!
A visitor from Mexico posted Sat September 24, 2005:Breath taking! I gotta go there!
A visitor from United States posted Wed September 21, 2005:Its just a really great photo its at least tweenty feet above the ground
A visitor from Germany posted Sat September 10, 2005:Wow... never seen a plane flying so low...
A visitor from United States posted Wed September 7, 2005:Almost a sandy landing. that would be loud 4 jet engines right above you.
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat August 20, 2005:It is just surreal to see people swim just under the plane. well captured and sharp too.
A visitor from Netherlands posted Thu November 25, 2004:I find this photo is excellent, because not many people get great shots like this one, and i find it amazing that planes land so low at this island. i already booked a ticket to go and see it for myself, it's a one in million airports like this. the shot is just perfect and it has so much more to say about it.
