Male International airport (center left) was built on an artifical island. Due to the booming tourism industry the Maldives and its infrastructure are running out of space. Here you can see the new artifical island that supports the growing airport as well as Male itself, the world's smallest capital, visible in the top left corner of the image. Great pic and good info. The airport previously was two small natural islands, the two were joined together and expanded through reclamation to expand the airport. And yes the area around the airport is going to be reclaimed for future expansion.
