TC-JAV (cn 46704/29) "Ankara" (ex N1337U) Sadly, this aircraft crashed in Ermenonville on 1974.03.03 while operating a Paris-London flight, taking all 346 lives on board. It was later determined that a defective cargo door blew open in flight, causing a rapid decompression.

A piece of history preserved with this clear image of TC-JAV - 'Ship 29' as she was known to McDonnell-Douglas. RIP to all those killed on TK flight 981, 3rd March 1974.

A strange feeling, seeing this. it is so sad that makes me get a shiver while thinking that this was somehow alive but it is not anymore. rest in peace all those souls who lost their lives; may god be with you.

This is a clear, full-color photo of the particular DC-10 that went down in the Ermenonville Forest in '74. The horrific loss of life (over 300 passengers, no survivors) makes this photo a kind of living memorial, living in the sense that here is the aircraft while it was "alive," so to speak. I was traumatized by the tragedy when I read about in the papers; so many precious lives were lost.
