A visitor from United States posted Fri August 7, 2009:And why does everyone seem to always want to blame the pilots!!!
A visitor from United States posted Thu January 1, 2009:Only visitor "November 04, 2006" is correct. The gear was pinned but the pin was put in the wrong hole. Having that extra hole so close to the safety-pin hole, was an accident waiting to happen. It was a set-up that one could argue was overlooked in the design. It could happen to almost anyone, and this incident MIGHT have been the result of all of the mechanic furloughs taking place at United. What he said is correct, be careful out there. Every aircraft has it's own hidden dangers. Airliner design is maximized for cruise flight at altitude. Everything else if a relatively un-natural mode. This great shot, with the correct information, illustrates that perfectly.
A visitor from United States posted Mon November 3, 2008:She's really eager to get up in the air.
A visitor from Netherlands posted Thu April 3, 2008:Teacher: Well children, what have we learned from our field trip to SFO? Kids: Never put really fat in the back of a 747!!!
A visitor from United States posted Tue September 11, 2007:Great pic but just fyi this isnt a landing gear issue, the main gear look fine, hints the nose gear being off the ground, but it looks like the ramp crew didn't follow tail tipping guidelines and pushed the cg to far aft!!! oops!!
A visitor from United States posted Sat November 4, 2006:Boeing screw up, 30 years in the making. The body gear on all 747 aircraft swing forward and up. There is a drag link that is pinned to stop this type of thing from happening. There is an inspection/drain hole that goes through the link and it just happens to be the same diameter as the hole used to pin the gear. Late night and lack of prior experience played a part here. This is not the first time in history that this has happened its been an issue for 30 years. The fix? They now fill the hole with sealant to make it smaller than the pin diameter. There are no stupid people, just people like you and me and circumstance......... Never let you guard down around aircraft. Luckily noone was injured.
A visitor from United States posted Tue May 16, 2006:OOOO...somebody is gonna get definitely fired for this.
A visitor from United States posted Mon May 15, 2006:Not again!!!! This always happens. Someone didn't fix the gear right. How could someone be stupid enough to leave the pins out, come on. Great photo by the way.
A visitor from Germany posted Sat March 4, 2006:Looks to me like someone didn't know to start loading from the front. That's what happens when the CG moves to far aft.... btw... gear looks fine...
A visitor from United States posted Fri January 6, 2006:A lesson to be learned here, Always assign the seats in the front of the airplane first, then work your way to the back. :-)

A visitor from United States posted Wed August 31, 2005:Poor United. You could have said this is taken just before take-off! ;o) I didn't know 747 has the same problem of heavy back as IL-18. When windy, it needs to be supported by small pole with tiny wheels.
