A visitor from Portugal posted Fri April 7, 2006: That part of the runway that stands on colums is new... it use to be a very small runway , no big planes landed there like the 777 and even for 737s or 320s it was a little bit short and the landings were scary for the passengers with huge breaking after touchdown...

Specially when an airplane is about to land on rwy 23.! Then to make it even more fun, if you continue along the freeway you pass again but this time before rwy 05 on the other side. That is a "must" if you have an airplane on shortfinal! ;-D Anybody who lives in Madeira know what I mean.
