A visitor from India posted Sat June 17, 2006:Been there n beyond so often. Never looked out back. A fantabulous photo.
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue May 23, 2006:Awesome shot. Well done. By the way, the aircraft is probably not travelling supersonic. The misting effect you see is indeed due to shock waves, but these are created as the flow is accelerating (from a high subsonic Mach number) over the wing which is pushing the local flow supersonic. There is a rapid temperature and pressure increase through a shock wave, which in the right humidity can lead to misting.
A visitor from United States posted Mon May 22, 2006:AWESOME!!!

A visitor from Germany posted Mon October 31, 2005:Great shot, I`ve been there this time. If can make it , do it and go ta axalp. Never seen something amazing. Real gun-shooting just 300ft away from you in the middle of the swiss mountains. The best I´ve ever seen. And by the way, the pilots were not allowed to fly supersonic.
A visitor from Australia posted Thu October 27, 2005:Simply stunning lucky shot i know how fast this effect can form and disappear!
A visitor from United States posted Wed October 26, 2005:Great pic, although I reckon that the plane isn't going at the speed of sound, just quite close to it, and moisture in the air is being compressed and made visible. I think...
A visitor from Belgium posted Wed October 26, 2005:A real stunning picture! Well done!!
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed October 26, 2005:Superb! A sure fire desktop pic. There is a long record of great shots of Swiss AF fast jets in action, this carries on this tradition.
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed October 26, 2005:Its cool cus it going faster than sound
A visitor from Belgium posted Wed October 26, 2005:Wow, very nice picture! Grtz Toon
A visitor from Germany posted Wed October 26, 2005:To the visitor from Canada: I believe you know the effect called "Doppler effect" if for example a car drives past its sound seems to be higher if it approaches and lower if it goes away. Same here with a plane but this one is exactly as fast as the sound waves it emits! The result is the famous sonic barrier. The sound waves being nothing other than compressed air build this sonic barrier which becomes visible because of condensation of water in humid environment.
A visitor from Canada posted Wed October 26, 2005:This photo is absolutely superb! Great capture! The effects are truly amazing!
A visitor from Canada posted Wed October 26, 2005:This is an amazing picture, but could someone explain what's going on here?
A visitor from United States posted Wed October 26, 2005:I always love seeing these types shots. I just hope the resulting sonic boom (if it did go supersonic) did not set off any avalanches, looks kind of mountainous there.
A visitor from Belgium posted Tue October 25, 2005:Great shot Dirk!!
